Nice look from Tyler. If he can hit that on a semi-consistent basis it will make life much better this season.

And your Houstonian with the thunder.

Holland to LB ... I get the feeling they are just letting Larry pad some stats. Let's hope it doesn't bite us.

SCAR saying his teams were responsible for LU getting into the Big South. Uh huh. Pump yourselve up there, Baldy.
Did SCAR really say that? Now you all can blame him for you guys being 'stuck' in the Big South.

I had another thought but my producer was saying something in my ear and to wrap it up I said that we were responsible. What I meant to say was that we paved the way for Liberty basketball in general at the division 1 level and that we also were auditioning for the southern conference but that we must not have passed the audition  So many thoughts, so little time to say it. I enjoyed watching Smitty dunk tonight though. Nastiness. I managed 2 shouts out to WMathews and TBGBG. I could have outed Critic but I chose not to. I had a lot of fun with Ray Jones. He said that we Literally were on fire so I had to get him on that. Thanks for tuning in SJ and Co. You guys are my peeps on flamefans for sure!

Anthony Smith Scored 23 points in the Flames Victory

Larry Blair climbed into ninth place on the Big South all-time scoring list as he scored 27 points as Liberty (1-1) defeated Cincinnati Christian (4-4) at the Vines Center on Tuesday night, 101-65.

Cincinnati Christian jumped out quick to a 9-2 lead behind three-straight three-point baskets by Joe Mendenhall with his third coming with 17:30 left in the first half. The Flames then went on a 9-2 run of their own capped by a Blair jump shot at 14:12 remaining in the half tying the game at 11-11.

For the next six minutes the Flames and Golden Eagles were neck-and-neck as both teams were dead locked at 26 a piece as Blair hit a runner with 8:15 remaining in the first half.

The Flames took the lead at 4:22 in the first half after Blair was fouled by Mendenhall, making the basket and the ensuing free throw to give Liberty the 36-34 lead.

The Flames closed out the half on an 8-4 run, giving Liberty a 44-38 lead going into the break. B.J. Jenkins was fouled by Tommy McGuire with six-tenths of a second left in the half on a three-point attempt. Jenkins hit his first two free-throw attempts while the third hit off the front of the rim bringing the half to a close.

Mendenhall was lights out from three-point range for Cincinnati Christian going 5-of-6 for 15 points to lead the Golden Eagles in the first half. Anthony Smith led the Flames in the opening 20 minutes with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting and 2-of-3 from three-point range.
The Flames opened the second half on a 9-3 run that was capped by Kyle Ohman’s three-point shot from the corner giving Liberty the 53-41 advantage with 16:41 left in the game.

Liberty continued to open the game up with 13-3 run, capped by an Alex McLean lay-up on a fast break giving the Flames the 66-44 advantage with 12:16 remaining in the game.

The Golden Eagles stopped a 9-0 Flames run scoring when Justin Bilyeu hit a jumper at 7:21, their first points since 14:26 in the game, to make it a 75-46 game.

Liberty closed out the game on a 26-19 run as the Flames scored 100 points for the first time since December 12, 1992, when Liberty defeated Averett 111-53.

The Flames shot 51.5 percent from the field on 34-of-66 shooting behind Blair’s 27 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the field and 4-of-8 shooting from the three-point range. Blair also dished out a game-high eight assists and grabbed six rebounds. Smith scored 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field and 2-of-4 shooting from three-point range. The Flames got a double-double from McLean as he grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds and scored 15 points.

The Golden Eagles hot shooting in the first half cooled down as they finished the game shooting 31.7 percent on 20-of-63 shooting from the field and 9-of-29 shooting from three-point range. The Golden Eagles shot 7-of-18 from three-point range in the first half only to go cold on 2-of-11 in the second half. Mendenhall tied for a team-high scoring honors with 15 points, scoring all of his points in the first half. Justin Bilyeu also scored 15 points while Donnie Fishburn scored 11 points and Jake Santel scored 10 points rounding out the Golden Eagles top scorers.

The Flames return to action on Saturday night when Houghton College comes to the Vines Center. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.

I'm glad we got the W. We need to use these games between now and ECU to get some chemistry. Anyone that watched or maybe SCAR since you were there, how did B.J. look? I think he's a key to the season.

BJ is not really ready for prime time at this stage of his young career. He can play for sure but there are so many little things about the point guard position at this level that he is not comfortable doing yet. He will get there though. Before you know it Brew will be in the mix anyway. Also Damien, Justin Holland and even LB all kind of shared the point duties. I have been high on J Holland since I saw him in high school and I think he will be able to do some things to help Liberty win games. Anyone who has ever played with a nagging injury will tell you that it makes you less of a player but now that he is healthy I think he is gonna do well. He will have tough moments like anybody else but he will have more positives IMO.

I only caught about 10 min of the telecast online- had to work late and then had my boy- but tuned in to see us up by about 6 (44-38 I think) just before the half, I believe.

Was disappointed at that point, though my man SCAR sounded smooth and looked sharp- and I liked the Bball on fire graphic thing- hadn't seen that before.

Just glad we won convincingly and hopefully got to work on some things before the conf games start. The team appears to be coming together and improving- a lot better since game 1, anyway.

i was there and i have a few observations:

1. as SCAR said B.J. is not ready at this stage in his career at LU. damien and justin holland will have to carry the load till brew plays.
2. smitty finally played more aggressive last night and played above the rim with some nasty dunks
3. tyler baker did not impress me last night. his defense was suspect, (but give credit to the cincy shooters) and at times looked lost. he did pick it up the second half. i have seen him shoot in practice, and he is a threat, but that need to caryy over to game situations.
4. armon jones would sit the bench all year if i was the coach. he was uninterested when in the game, and was clearly pouting because he got mop-up duty.
5. kyle ohman gave the team quality minutes last night, and i was impressed with his hustle
6. alex mc clean has the ability to be a beast in the low post, and he showed it last night with a double double.

the first half was so-so though we had the lead. our defense was not that good, but again cincy was hot. the second half we picked it up in all aspects and dominated. smitty and alex are the x-factors this year IMO. opposing teams will key on brew and larry, so smitty and alex will have plenty of looks.. if we can get a strong third scorer, we can do very well.
