Radford sure knocked down their free throws late in the game. I was hoping Radford would settle for a long range 3-point attempt and miss to send us into OT, but their freshman drained it for the win. Crybaby

Good season for us. Turnovers were huge but the game came down to the final shot and they knocked it down. We had our chances. I am excited for next year.
As for Jerry's tweet, i think this is more evidence that social media is a dangerous thing and we shouldn't drink and tweet.

No way a President of a world class university tweets that sober.

Starting from the game then going to the season and finally the direction of program.

Officials were atrocious. I believe radford did not have a FG for the last 10 min other than the game winner. There were 2 to 3 complete phantom defensive calls inside that kept radford in the game. Personally, i believe the blue bloods and most people dont like the pack line so its starting to be officiated differently in spots.

Kemrite. Ive been hard on him but hats off to a great career. He battled every time out there and truely was a deadly marksman.

I hope newton and preston can help scottie inside. We have zero other rebounders in the program.

The 2 biggest changes we need besides adding rebounding and scoring which hopefully the recruiting class does is :

1: end of game shots. Cabbil and ortiz are flat out awful in their decision making with the game on the line. Yes they made a couple this year but they missed a ton and just took flat out horrible looks with more clock left. Scottie james and caleb homesley are our best scorers to me and they never ever get to touch the ball late other than on a bomb pass.

2: defense: im fine with the pack but we have to come out of it at times like we have been. We also have to deny the hot hand the ball in games like uncg.

Turnover. Talber obviously sounds like a great kid but he see any time at all. Also, i dont was think we need both bell and williams. I dont know which i would rather have because they both do different things but neither was able to develop their weaknesses at all this year. Williams is a total non threat offensively and bell is too slow on defensive rotations and struggles to make bunnies consistently. Neither rebound to justify their time. I wouldnt necessarily run either off but i wouldnt cry if we upgraded.

Season. We improved our tourney play and non conference play big time. However the conference play was a huge dissappointment. I would still say were on the right track but absolutely dont think you can extend mckay yet. We need to see one more year and the next step. Remember the d 1 record was just 2 games over 500 which is not impressive. I hope we only see 1 or 2 non d1 game next year.

Congratulations @LibertyMBB losing at the buzzer in the @BigSouthSports conference championship game. Refs did the worst job officiating a Big South game I’ve seen in quite a while, unfortunately not in favor of @LibertyU !
He said what a lot of us are thinking. It was a disappointing season anyway. Liberty was predicted to finish 3rd (we finished 8th, but because of the tiebreakers we finished 5th). Please no stupid not NIT tournament!!!! Hopefully we will get in a more than one big league like the Big East in the future!!!!
Think about the unbelievable ignorance and naïveté of that statement. The regular season is basically meaningless in the Big South. You just have to be competitive, which LU was. It all boils down to the Tournament. LU made it within seconds of winning the Tournament and going to the NCAA Tournament. That’s a pretty successful season based on where they were a few short seasons ago. And even though they are coming off back to back 20 win seasons, the only thing people are going to remember is that LU was thisclose to making The Dance.
Further, you throw out playing in the BE. If you believe this season was disappointing how do you think it would have been any more successful in the BE? :dontgetit Would LU have won 20 games? Would they be playing at MSG in the Championship game?
Finally, the officiating was fine. Watching on TV we probably questioned and rewatched more calls against RU than LU. But nothing really egregious stuck out.
It just came down to one play. Both teams took bad shots. Theirs went it.

Hard game to officiate. Very physical. Maybe a little inconsistency on a couple of the block-charge calls. The one they called a charge on scottie - pretty sure Official was second-guessing himself during TO. Just reading his body language. And from my vantage point, it looked like the other defender pushed scottie into the charge.

Anyway, goo game. Entertaining. JJ was there but walked in late. Maybe he went to church? I dunno.

Definitely disagree with you here. McKay is a class act, not to mention, do you remember how atrocious our program was prior to his arrival? Back to back 20 win seasons. Lock the man up. Yes our conference record was disappointing, all the more so to Richie. We had some bad luck health wise during the conference schedule. I’m actually more worried about him pulling a Richie 1.0 and leaving us again. Praying he’s here for the long haul.

i was just waitIng for someone to say that. 3 wins above 500 in d1 games this year. Cmon. If you want to set the bar at layer low then feel free. Layer and dunton were both idiotic hires and extensions that our current ad would have never made. I believe the prudent thing would be to see another year. Unca and withrop should finally drop off a bit. Radford and campbell should be strong again.

Dear God, everything JLF says has to sound exactly like Donald Trump wrote it. Way to be a sore loser and jack%#&, JLF. To quote your best friend, “Sad!”

As many of you have pointed out, the refs aren’t why we lost.

Mike Jones and Nick McDevitt are definitely taking better jobs next season. I bet we'll be seeing new faces at both Radford and UNCA. Too bad Jr. can't get a job as a propaganda spokesperson somewhere...

We were one of the worst programs in the country when Ritchie took over

Ritchie has three of the seven 20 win seasons in program history. He’s building from nothing and has improved each year. He also fits what we want in a head coach at Liberty. You extend him to give him the stability to build the program the right way which is slow and steady over the course of 4-5 years. We are on track to become like Asheville - a yearly contender - which is all you can ask for at this point in time.

Jon, agreed. McKay has shown continuous improvement and represents the university with class. That is pretty much all one can ask.

KK and the conference need to mandate it. No way the winner of today's game should be in Dayton.

When G-W was in the Atlantic Sun, the A-Sun only allowed two non D-1 games per season, period. The Big South going to a 16 game schedule and split divisions means two more games for schools to fill. We don't need to be playing cupcake fodder.

Flameshaw, I've read your post 3 times, and I can't find anything negative. Has someone hacked your account?

Last I checked Liberty needed the Big South to accept them in all your other sports non-football.. I keep forgetting all the other conference affiliations LU's turned down.. you know since Liberty's been so strong/dominant in all the other sports and represented the conference in.. oh wait does indoor track & field even really count?

Football- nope losing to PC who is stepping down from scholarship football is pretty strong
Men's Basketball- nope
Men's and Women's Soccer- nope, nope
Mens'/Women's X-Country- nope, nope
Volleyball- nope
Women's Basketball- TBD

Ballcoach you can't talk about the league being weak when you don't win it, plus LU lost to that 'weak' team 3x.. You're not you when you're hungry- go have a whopper or something..

That’s the LU Paradox. The Bog South Sucks But LU can’t dominate or win it. Which is why LU needs to move into a better Conference

While I agree with your overall post, let's make sure your facts are straight:

Football hasn't lost to PC in a decade.
agreed on MBB
In past 5 years, women's soccer has 3 tournament championships and runner up once and 2 regular season titles
Men's cross country - 15 Big South Championships + 8 2nd place finishes, and 3 individual national championships
Women's cross country - 9 Big South Championships
agreed on volleyball & men's soccer
WBB - while last couple of years have been down, we just won the regular season title which adds to our 15 previous regular season titles and 16 tournament titles

Anyone else missing A.C. Reid during that last possession? I guess Radford got their revenge.

Great season, though, really. They are improving and probably the biggest thing I see is the expectation level rising. As a coach, I have learned that kids tend to play up to the expectations placed on them. Obviously, they don't always hit the mark 100% of the time, but for the most part I think the concept is true. The fact that people are complaining about back-to-back 20-win seasons where we advanced to the BSC game and took it to the wire shows that expectations are climbing.

Good job Flames & RMK and staff. Can't wait till next season.

It truly is a paradox. Because of our school culture, our recruiting base is smaller than most schools. Being in the Big South makes that pool even smaller. There is a level of athlete who would be willing to deal with the rules/culture of Liberty but not in return for playing in the Big South.
