I think dunton is a good coach, bad recruiter...yes he has brought in some good players, but he also brings in guys with questionable character....guys that don't seem to respond to his style of coaching very well, part of being a good college coach is looking for players that fit into your system. I don't think he does that....so even though I think he knows his stuff as far as coaching the game, he may be better off at the high school level...

I think the opposite, with the exception of so many guards, good recruiter, bad coach.

There was a guy in the Barton section last night who had been keeping up with LU basketball, he said our team looked good on paper, even in the past few years, but they haven't proved it on the court.

well, i said he brought in good talent...but not the kind of players that fit in well with his style of coaching....he has a style that a lot of players these days don't like because they are babied so much and think they are god's....that is really what i was saying

I bet the pressure on Dunton is incredible. I remeber last year when Jerry brought Pete Gillen from UVA to watch our games. All the guys on my dorm were praying that he would take over, but that obviously never occurred. Rest assure, Jerry can only put up with losing for so long; look at Ken Karcher

Coach has faced adversity before. His interim year, with all the changes when Jeff left and players were booted, he did a decent job keeping the team together. In all honesty, we should have beaten UNC-Ashville in perhaps the ugliest game ever played in the big south tournament, and who knows what would have happened in a rocking furnace playing for the title. We might have been spared the Hankinson error. Although the team has work to do; and the coaches have some serious coaching and motivating to do, a hallmark of RD's teams is that they compete. Last year, the overall talent was not in place to compete and win. This year, it is all about the win, and the talent will compete--and win.

I will try to put your collective minds to rest with a bit of history. The CVAC is really good in the top half and their dominate teams will give most D-1 mid major teams a good game.Barton has a winning history and have had some very good teams. It has always been hard for the better CVAC teams to get D-1's on their schedule for that very reason.Marshalls first or second(not sure which) NCAA team at WU lost to Queens in a year that Queens finished 3rd in the conference. The freshman on that Queens team went on to win over 100 games and went to 2 elite 8's.So,what I'm saying is that there is no shame in last nites result.Barton would give any team in the BS trouble.

Results, maybe not. Quality of play, yes. We didn't rebound or guard anyone at the perimeter. We gave up 87 points.

Jerry didn't bring Pete Gillen in. He doesn't even really know Pete Gillen. Pete was studying different teams because he was preparing for TV. He sat in with Ray Jones and me for about 10 minutes during a game last year. He and Alexis Sherrard are still close so he comes to see Liberty from time to time....As far as Barton being a good team. I said it a couple of pages back. Certain Division II teams can play with and compete with mid major Division I teams. We knew they were gonna be tough going in. The combinations of players used last night were experimental. They coached to win the game but they also coached to evaluate talent and combinations. I don't know how this team is gonna be but I have to say I am not gonna rush to judgement and say this team can't make it to the tournament. You should have seen the NCAA 2004 team this time of year that season. Not very good and not too many guys knew their roles yet. Fellas it is early. As Haize said at the football game "you guys want a microwave solution for a pressure cooker situation". Haize, Smoothie, did I paraphrase it well enough?

oh yeah, i remember being so frustrated with the 2004 tourny team...but they pulled it together down the stretch and were a ton of fun to watch.....so you are right scar we all need to just sit back and wait until the real season gets going, its a long season, you never know what will happen.....

We are talking pre-season the game does not even count. Coming from where I went to a Div. II school, my school annually played a Div 1 school that was geographically close. Whether it was pre-season or regular season, that was the game our school circled as a respect game. Our school wanted to win that game more than any other game. I am not putting any weight into this pre-season game at all. It is the regular season that counts.

As for LF, rumor has it he may leave the program. Cannot discuss why as I promised my source not to give the details into the matter. I am sure Best Mgr or someone could have more, but I am not leaking too much on this as it is uncertain.

You did pretty good SCAR (Considering I made that up on the spot.) The exact quote that I claim is "You are looking for a microwave solution to a crock pot problem!"
I agree that it is early and there is a lot to look at. However, if you are coming off the season you just had and promising "Big Things" losing to a DII school, no matter how good they are, does not help your cause. I m sure they are looking at match ups and on the court combos, that is the purpose of these scrimmages. It is just unfortunate that you lose to a Barton instead of a solid traveling all star group. More cred in losing to a bunch of FORMER college players.

I think everyone is with you on that one Critic. No one is saying that this team is gonna be good yet. We are all in a wait and see mode. Definitely have potential though.

With that being said, from what we saw last night and from what we now know of an early indication of how our players look, who are the starters against Cedarville next week?

My picks...
Alex McLean, Tyler Baker, Larry Blair, Anthony Smith and if not BJ because of his ankle either Rell or Damien.

Also, Dunton said last year he would boo the team this year if they weren't winning....I think with all the returning players, there should be more chemistry on the team. The game doesn't matter, the better TEAM won. We are going to have some good days and bad. I just know that RD will be gone if they don't heavily compete for the BSC championship this season

Did he really? He may have just set himself up for something. I'm giving this team until Brew becomes eligible before I make my final judgement but if things don't change when he plays, we may know the problem.
