Looking forward to your scouting report. 8)
In warmups Brendan hit 3-4 threes. Must have added that to his game in the offseason. Footwork has improved in the post play area but still room to grow. In our game he got 8-10 pts off uncontested lay-ins right next to the basket, hit 1-3 FT's and 6 or so dunks. Missed his only 3 pt attempt. He was 0-6 when he caught the ball just a few feet out on the post and missed his post move/hook shot. Overall he has improved each year we've played them, but it remains to be seen how he'd do offensively against bigger post defenders (tallest he's faced this year is 6'2"). He also had 2 blocks.

That´s what I call breaking out the big guns when you have the AD hosting a recruit! Actually it makes sense since Jeff´s son Jay would be Brendan´s classmate in the 2017 recruiting class. Did you see him there?

See who? Jay or Brendan? Both were at the game Saturday.

I was referring to Jay. Makes more sense for Jeff to be hanging with a recruit if his son is in the group as well.

That´s correct. My bad. LU and App St. were the only 2 for quite a while but Gee offered a couple of weeks ago.

I couldn't find a score on FCS vs MMS, but they were both in the Jingle Ball tournament, and apparently Newton's FCS team won.

Good info on Brendan's season on that FCS twitter. They are undefeated and he had a game with 30 pts, 20 rebounds and 10 blocks.

For those who may be still doubting that Newton's listed height is correct, check out this pic of the Jingle Ball all-tourney team.

The 2 mountain Mission players on the far left are 6'10" ASU signee Jethro Tshisumpa and 6'7" Jakub Mijakowski. Brendan makes them look like midgets. He has to be at least 7'3" and 250 plus at this point.

Yeah he looks bigger and taller than the last time I saw him.

I think Purple had it right Cider. Ralph was a unique talent, but never became as great as he could have been because at 7'4" he seemed to be obsessed with playing like a small forward and never developed a signature post move like Jabbar's sky hook. If Brendan can put that shot in his arsenal, the sky is the limit.

Yes. LU offers a lot of things this kid will find attractive Plus the school has been after him hard and heavy. I would say it's a better than even shot

They both are right I think Oldflame. If Ralph had played today's game he would fit right in. Very few back to the basket guys these days. A skilled guy at 7'4" facing the basket and picking and popping is desired these days even at the NBA level. Now if you are comparing Kareem vs Ralph that contest isn't really even fair. Kareem was unstoppable for 20 years. He doesn't get his due to this day IMO. People think Jordan is the All time scoring champion but it is actually Kareem.

Point taken SCAR, but seeing as young Newton probably will never really belong in the same discussion with either of those guys in terms of athleticism, my thought is he will be able to better maximize what he does bring to the table by focusing on a post game, and like you said, nobody did it better than Kareem.

That's why a Back To The Basket player with a sky hook would be tough to stop. If you watch it it is nothing more than some of the runners taken today. The difference is you are shooting it from 10-11' in the air! He will need to be able to knock down a 12-15' jumper but that's about it. Personally I'd run a pick and fade with someone else keeping Brenden on the opposite block. That gives the ball handler the 3 options of drive to score. Kick out for the 3 or lob to Brenden. You also have him there to rebound any miss. The game NEEDS a return to back to the basket specialists
But what do I know. I've never even coaches an Upwards team!

Thanks, I haven't kept up with BB, don't really care a lot for it any more. I just figured with his height, he is going to get a lot of offers from big schools. I hope we land him, just not optimistic.

We have a great shot at him. Were definetely the favorites and with the offers he has right now i would say its 95 percent chance we get him. Now if a uva were to jump in or maybe a tech that would change things. From what ive heard we would still be the favorite over a vt. Buzz doesnt quite exhibit the same behavior as tony bennett ritchie mckay and dale layer and thats important to the family.
