First off, congrats to you guys. A well-earned tourney win.

You know you will likely play the weakest conference winner out of the MEAC, SWAC, or Great West in Dayton. You also know that one of the 16/16 winners will stay in Dayton and play IU later in the week. I think staying in one spot would be a good thing myself after winning the First Four.

The cool thing for LU, as with UNCA two years ago and WU before that, is that when you are playing in that First Four game, the whole nation is watching you. Big time exposure.

Read this stat on the WSET web page:
Marshall was named Tournament MVP after averaging 18 points a game throughout LU's four-game run to the title. He shot an astounding 70.8 percent from three-point land, connecting on 17 of his 24 shots from beyond the arc.
I don't think even SC can hit 70% with the 3-ball. :nono

So I just noticed something...I was going through our schedules for all three championship seasons, and all three times we came into the Big South tournament off a win...over Radford...now Im gonna chalk it up to coincidence because if beating Radford in our last tournament game led to us winning the Big South, we would probably have been to the tournament a lot more often, I just found it interesting that that was a common thread between the three...that is an astounding stat on Davon btw

Just dropping in to add this...

I know you're all a lot more familiar with Coach Layer than I, but I came away from this week so unbelievably impressed by him as a man and a leader. As for his ability as a coach, there are varying opinions on that, so I won't go down that road. The thing that most resonated with me is how he trusted his team once they got to Conway and let them do what they do best. The confidence clearly showed in Cabe, Trap and Davon's play, to the point where I didn't even recognize the team I'd seen play just a couple of months prior.

As far as whether Layer is the right coach for the team long-term, that's not my call. As far as a leader and a spokesman for Liberty, however, he's a rock star.

Lynchburger i think we all agree on that. Couldn't ask for a much better man to run the program. There's a lot of us that followed the team closely and just hate losing so much but this was truly an incredible week of basketball for the flames. Davon has one of the quickest triggers you'll see. That stat is just looney. I would love to see us get a legit PG and let him play his natural spot. Trap's mid range game reminds me a lot of LB's back in the day, he was the zone buster every time we needed a big shot.

I'm the happiest for Layer and JC though. They have taken such a beating on here and I truly coudln't have been happier to have been wrong.

There's no denying that they all bought into Layer's system in the tournament, and you could see it work for the first time since our streak in 10-11.

In the long run, I'm not sure it will change anyone's mind, but I say enjoy the moment regardless. Bragging about being right, or focusing on our record is just nonsense. He got us to the Dance, and at this point that's all that really matters. And Layer deserves to be commended for that.

First of all, WAY TO GO FLAMES! So proud of the guys, Coach Layer, and the whole Athletics Dept. Blown away by the perseverance shown by these guys under the circumstances. Unbelievable. They've really embodied Doc's "Never Quit" sermon. Excellent stuff!

And hey, a Dook/Liberty match-up would be fine with me. If we're playing a #1 seed, might as well be one that I hate! (Not to mention the fact that the Blue Devils seem to have had a little trouble with another school that goes by "LU" in recent tournament history).

Either way, I'm just glad to be Dancing! GO FLAMES! Play Basketball

If you are going to go on an ESPN message board please be pro Liberty basketball and celebrate don't be like FlameThrower6781 and others who are being unchristian and horrible representatives of both Christ and Liberty. It takes away from the great platform these players have made for promoting our school and our Savior.

Go Flames!

I have been waiting for this since 2004!!!! Let's not let it be a ton of years in between our next one again. Win every year, recruit well, make players/coaches want to not transfer or leave, and if somebody is not doing a good job then find somebody else that will consistently!!!!

Remember how you made it through the Big South tournament and make this same situation they were in happen in the NCAA tournament, "Survive and advance!!!!" Win the play in game, be the first 16 seed to beat a #1 seed, and keep going after that!!!! Go LU!!!!

Two memorable quotes (or paraphrases)...

1. Beginning the season 0-8? Remember what former LU Coach Jeff Meyer used to say: "It's not where you start; it's where you finish."

2. In the post-game interview, John Caleb made this comment: "Both of my older brothers played college ball, and neither one made it to the tournament. I'll be the first." (actually a paraphrase).

WOW! Great win. Great Tournamant.

Sure the record was bad in the season, but they were in a lot of those games, just didn't win them.

But they did when it really counted.
Congrats on a fantastic run to the NCAA... and being one of the 3 BS BB winners in LU history.
Something for the record books, and something that can never be taken away.

Go Flames!!

Hey guys, long time no post.......I have been networking in NoVa in hopes of getting a job in the most hated place on this board! Prayers requested! HAHA! I did deem it necessary to post today because I have been celebrating since 1415 Eastern yesterday! I know we always debate whether this gives the school some publicity and leads to more kids wanting to play here and making the sports teams better. I had all of my coworkers talking to me about Liberty and asking about enrolling, this is a wonderful thing to happen to Liberty! It was the lead on sportscenter yesterday, and I hope we can win the play in game and give the #1 a run!

How'd I get included here 😳

Are we back?
