Your entitled to your opinion but i have heard numerous others who say huge praises that played for him. One former player who is doing some real good things in town credited RD with getting his life on track. Where I sit that is no joke.
its not really an opinion its a fact...my last year playing for RD there were 5 players that left to go to other schools and all his assistants left...is that just a coincidence.

I wrote a blog post right after the Curry/McKay debacle basically stating that the LU basketball program could survive Curry's departure. I can admit when I'm wrong. And man was I wrong. To me, that's the defining moment of the current struggles for the program. Curry leaving gave Evan Gordon the blueprint for his college plan -- late signee who didn't get a lot of serious big-time looks, a strong season or two, head for greener pastures. The fan base, enthralled by that one Curry season, has never come back in force. It's been a continual uphill struggle for Layer, who seems to have to replace half of his roster every season. There's just this malaise around the program right now that LU can't escape.

I am not bitter nor am I delusional walking out a 9000 seat Vines Center with 300-400 in attendance. You should check your own perceptive instinct before labeling mine. Maybe two more trips to the NCAA tournament and RD would have had things named. He certainly proved
He could get us there.
At what cost did he get us there..while he was here the team was filled with players who were not high character guys and did not embrace the Christian philosophies of LU

I was there to see 9000 dance all over the Vines when he crushed High Point!

There is some bitterness. Have you seen where we are at? You call it a great decision. I know what I was an enthusiastic part of and where it is today. That is cased closed.

Your feelings are duly noted. But there is zero connection between discussions of now ancient history and the path moving forward. Instead of complaining about the decisions of the past, perhaps we could search for soltions for the future.

I say youre bitter and delusional IMBach because you continually refer back to someone who hasnt been employed by this university in 6 plus years, as has been mentioned before...even Indiana fans that love Bob Knight arent still saying how much better their team would have been if he hadnt of been fired, and the circumstances for his removal were EXPONENTIALLY worse...and we cant say with 100% certainty even in hindsight that we would have been more successful if no change had been made...

Yet you continue to bring it up
Also, there were not 9000 people there the last time we won a BSC Tournament title at the Vines Center

The place was packed what ever it is. Budgets were less yet we were dancing as Flames! I love the experience. Call it living in the past but it was great times for LU and Lynchburg.

Ok....forget the past ..lets talk about present and future. With todays student population, alumni in the area, etc.... there is no reason in the world why we shouldnt have 5,000 (REAL) people as an average attendance for games. So could someone layout a 3 point plan of how we get there and if we dont.......who should bare the responsibility !

I dont claim to have all the answers.....but I do recognize it as a BIG problem that some want to act as if doesnt even exist. Relative to the status of the overall university....the fact is basketball is at an ALLTIME LOW ! How did it get here? How can it be changed? Winning helps, but do you have to win 20 games a year or else no one will show up? How do we get the student invloved? The Alumni? The community?

Arent there actual LU employees who are suppose to handle this kind of stuff?

Where is their responsibility?.....THE BASKETBALL TEAM IS A FAILURE. Is there no accountability ?

I'd like to hear other's ideas....not just present my own.

I didnt say you had all the answers, but maybe if you presented your ideas first, you can initiate a nice dialogue that could lead to some workable solutions. People do read this board from the department so put your ideas out there

With all due respect, as bad as this season has progressed to anyone who has followed this program for any significant period of time sadly we would argue that this is not an all-time low.

You can win all you want but if people dont know about you (through marketing and advertising on TV and radio and social media and other platforms) it wont totally fix the problem

False. VCU, GMason, Butler, Gonzaga, Creighton, Wichita State, Dayton, St. Johns, Winthrop....need any others? The problem is it doesn't matter who was or is the coach. Until we make the NCAA, 2 pus years in a row, win the BS mutiple years in a row and even win 1 or 2 first round games, to be considered being in the mid major boat. Until we have a coach that can do that, why argue whether Meyer or Dunton was better?

I am not on here to fight as some others, however I do know what I have seen and am currently seeing. We have all been around educational or business politics so I am not surprised to see the clear alignments on FF. Now the inconsistencies of treatment :dontgetit ...one slanders some one and gets banned while others are free to slander former coaches. The reality is the LU athletics are under achieving in the major sports. MBB is on life support. Jerry Jr will soon address the issue because I believe he has invested the money it is not being raised. It will be interesting to see who makes the decisions going forward.

Ok this is my last comment on this because its obviously deteriorated way beyond its intended topic...this has been a very bad season but no one person is going to fix it past, present or future. Its going to take working together, administration, fans, players and coaches, but its going to take time. Dwelling on the past isnt going to fix it, good or bad as it may have been, but pie in the sky future aspirations arent going to fix it either.

3 point plan:

1) Nab a top tier assistant who specializes in recruiting (Stan Jones from FSU might fit well--son of an evangelist, started coaching a church team, 52 years old and may want to finally take his chance as a head coach)
2) Open the checkbook and overpay for the assistants that coach wants
3) Leave them alone for 3 years and see what happens
