I've always been a fan of bringing in a coach from a successful program at a Christian college or someone who is very outspoken in their faith. I think both of those situations would supply us with someone who buys into LU and would be around for awhile. I think the outspoken part is where TG fits in, but like. You said, we will see.We should have tried to get Bennett from WSU before UVA did...well, long shot but he has always been outspoken about his faith.
And trust me, I am far from nieve in the ways of The Mountain!

truthorconsequences wrote:More revisionist history. Dwight was gone and Tyler didn't play. What was left were 3 very good players; Ace, Smitty and TeeJay along with BJ and journyman Rell Porter. 3 of those starters were seniors. Because the rest of the RD recruits on the bench (Russ, Armon, Soup, and Holland) were so bad, we were left with walkons Kyle Ohman, Tim Layer and and Garen Lafser as the top reserves until RMK recruit Jeremy Anderson got healthy. At the end of that year we were only playing 7 guys. Ohman turned out to be really good, but no thanks to RD for that. With the graduation of Ace, TeeJay and Rell, at the end of 08, the only RD recruits left who could play a lick were Smitty and BJ. Bare cupboard, thus requiring a 7 man recruiting class.olldflame wrote:I see your smiley IMbach, but I'm actually scratching my own head. I totally refuted your allegation that RMK reduced Jenkin's role. As usual, you choose to ignore any facts that don't fit your agenda. Do you actually think when he recruited Curry and Sanders that Richie told BJ they were signed to take his job and his role would be reduced? If Jenkins felt slighted because the coach recruited some guards, that's his problem. RD left a pretty bare cupboard, and we needed the troops.
Are you serious? Alex Mclean, Anthony Smith, teeJay Bannister, BJ jenkins, Rell Porter , Tyler Baker (if not injured), and Dwight. That is a bare cupboard?

jinxy wrote:It's amazing that people are still debating whether Dunton deserved more time. The man was mediocore at best. The cupboard was def. left empty, bannister had 1 year eligibility, dwight never fit in at all at liberty, from day one and it was obvious he wasn't going to stick around. Ohman was a walk-on, give me a break, that's not even worth addressing. Sure, to this point we aren't much better than when Dunton was here, but you don't just let mediocrity go on for a decade before you pull the plug. You and old flame are hilarious. If RD was mediocre at 2,1,2,8,3 then what is 4,3,6,2,5?? First RD sold the value of LU if any body was ever a believer in what the students experience and did not hide the structure. I have heard him tell the story about Elijah as when he and an assistant left the home in Louisiana they thought they had signed the Apostle Paul and when he got to campus he act like something opposite. So instead of playing an athlete charged with a felony RD dismissed the player knowing it would be a blow to the season. And don't forget that RD had reopened the Nigerian pipeline with the signing of 7 ft Eroupe now playing for a top twenty Wichita St. program. Now WSU has RD's assistant and three Nigerians signed. But hey politics are funny...right now Santorum and Gingrich beat on Romney and he probably is a very decent human being. So write your versions of history I saw what he did and where we are today...not close. As I have said RD was heading us back to the NCAA tournament and was undercut by an AD who has no idea how to build his program.
The other thing that irritated me to no end about Dunton was the fact that he would hide what liberty was all about to a lot of recruits. Then when they got here it was a culture shock. Elijah Miller from Houston was a prime example, he was in my building sophomore year and he repeated countless times he had no idea this was a christian school or that it had rules when he got here. So he sat out a year and was kicked out at the end of the year. This happened countless times and i know at least 3 players that would attest to this.
Nobody hates Randy, i think he was a big LU guy that genuinely loved the school. That being said it was def. time to move on.
The results have been mediocore but many friends and alums i know are pleased that at least layer has cleaned up the program a bit. I'm sure there are still issues any time your dealing with D1 athletes but to me there's a clear difference. That's all i will post on this matter. It's simple, this is a make or break year for Layer i think.
Bigsouthking wrote:I should start a new thread to settle all this petty non sense on the history of LU hoops...mistakes, mistakes, mistakes!!!!I'll disagree some with #6 but agree with everything else
1. Firing Jeff Meyer
2. Hiring Mel Hankinson
3. Never having an AD to make decisions until JB was hired, basically a bunch of pansies with a title.
4. Not a great idea to bring RD back 2nd time, opened can of worms
5. Since they did bring RD back, he should have had extension after he won tournament, but that's his fault and no AD either at the time.
6. Bad hire in RMK, journey man, looking for job as soon as he was hired.
7. In 2 full decades 1992- 2012 LU has only appeared in 4 BS championship games. That's pathetic.
8. If LU is moving to a better league, Dale deserves some patience. But needs to better athletes if they join MAC, especially if they join Sun Belt or C- USA.
Nothing more to say until program consistenly beats someone's a**!
All that non sense about players RD left or didn't leave: who cares...it's been 5 years AD
( after Dunton)
Bigsouthking wrote:PH --New Mexico had a lot of other issues. Similar to Kansas. I'm not saying it was a good or bad hire. I think 1 year followed by a move to the ACC makes it an 'Incomplete"
Look at RMK resume. He is retread.... How is that a good hire.? A guy that cannot win a New Mexico/ get an at large birth even at New Mexico and you expect him to win a stressful tournament... Your better than that PH.
olldflame wrote:Ehimen Orupke, that 7 foot Nigerian ToC loves to refer to as a breakthrough recruit, didn't make it through the NCAA clearinghouse to play for Wichita State for 3 years. That's why he is still a Junior. When he finally qualified, he rode the pine last year, and this year he is playing 8 minutes/gm and averaging 1.3 points and 2.2 rebounds. So you are saying there was a good chance he wouldn't have graduated within the NCAA window?
I hate you Merry Christmas :D  May[…]
