FYI---

It either goes on the left side of the column (W) or the right side (L)

at the end of the year they dont put an * by it and say, so and so was hurt.

that's what I tell my upward basketball team! and we are n 2nd place.

I hate the way you go about this but I definitely do. I don't see enough promising pieces to put any hope in next year either. At the same time the program needs any bit of stability it can get.

Not really. I'm not thrilled but I doubt anyone is. As I said if these loses we're by large numbers and we hadn't had any success last year I would be concerned. If we didn't have the injuries that we do I would be concerned.
If I just looked at the numbers and not the reason for them then I would think the cliff was enticing.

what numbers??????

Honestly some on hear sound like Obama saying the economy is improving. So if we finish 4th next year it will be we are on the right track with all the money given athletics it should not be accepted. I am questioning the hires. Even football is a huge ????

It really seems that some refuse to own up to how lacking this program currently is. CSU has one senior. HPU can hold home court vs CSU. VMI beats PC at home. Mr. President, The economy is in the tank as well. LU athletics is becoming one big stimulus package.

Neutral question here to ask yourself and think about...

Does LU right now with healthy players that are playing, have more talent than Gardner Webb??

compare records and strength of schedule..??

I know LU will win some games, how many is the question??

Since we're spending so much money we're destined to finish at the top of the conference as soon as next year!

Get a clue. It takes time.

Wow. I didn't know we had someone with your coaching pedigree on here. Too bad your tam is in second. Maybe if they had a coach who could get talent they'd be in 1st.
Glad to see you are setting a great example for the youth of tomorrow. :brownbag

Easy now ... I consider myself a masterful Upward hoops coach and my squad can't seem to crack the top spot either. Clearly I need to up my operating budget.

We could probably use some more talent, but in my opinion, continuity is the problem. This team hasn't had a stable roster since probably 2005 or 2006. And the 2 coaching changes may have fixed some problems, but certainly not that one. I hardly think another regime change is going to catapult us anywhere. All the money in the world can't buy you an instant championship. We need guys to stay healthy and stay for 4 years. How can we develop talent when it's sidelined in a boot? How can we develop chemistry when guys are playing together for 1 or 2 years max? How can we afford to give a scholly to a raw kid when we keep losing them to APR? There just needs to be some stabilization.

Seriously? If you can type you can post on a message board.
I wouldn't hang my coaching hat on Upward Basketball success though.
In full disclosure I have never coached an Upward basketball team. And if I did I certainly wouldn't focus on W and L records.

SLY I have a sneaking suspicion that you get what Upward Basketball is all about. If I had kids I'm sure I would be happy if you were their coach.

Truth be known RD needs no apologists. One of the most exciting days of my family was watching his team destroy the #2 seed HPU in 2004. Have never seen a more fever pitch in Vines. I personally believe it was a mistake to not renew him.

We can agree to disagree on the renewing part, but you are right about the Vines that day. That will always be my most memorable LU athletic event during my time there.

The mistake was not in the contract not being renewed because I think it was clear that players were starting to tune him out, but the hiring of RM was ill advised and something that I think set our program back even further. It was impossible to know that was going to happen of course, but looking back the indicators were there that the possibilities were there. Of course if Seth Curry doesn't go to Duke RM would still be here...but yeah that is a whole other arguement

I was wondering that myself...I mean Ashley is a nice one (and she is getting married to a former LU baseball player) but folks like ToC and IMBach really are an embarrassment to him and that disappoints me...more than the struggles on the court. The level of bitterness that one person (or two people) can have for another person (Mr Barber) over an event 5-6 years in the past makes me shake my head...

Shake your head all you want...because some of us feel like there is a better answer than the JB way you call it bitterness. Well I call it insanity to think that we are in better shape. But it is not even a worthy argument at this point. We all have to live with the decisions and it does not stimulate any pride to see our performance, listen to excuses and yes partake in an empty Vines Center. Who counted the 475 for the PC game?

Well genius...let's say we do things your way and get rid of Barber...who do we replace him with? (and before you answer, I dont want some pat answer like "someone who has a history of winning hires" because that answer wont mean doodly squat as my dad would often say...give some actual names...would like to see you do some actual thinking and contribute something meaningful to the discussion here instead of your usual talking points)
