regardless of what you think of a coach pumping up his players to get them a scholarship - I mean how dare they try to help their players get a free education! - it is completely asinine to go around more or less anonymously insulting them. How you treat the coach can be the difference in your team getting a good player and him going elsewhere.

That was my point, most intramural teams that I have seen are all similar in size and ethinicity / I was comparing the make up of LU varsity to what a typical intramural team looks like...if I am recruiting I find a athlete to replace Speaks and Jourdan kid....

The coach thought you and others were ripping his kid. My guess is he'll be less likely to recommend Liberty in the future. Well done son, well done.

Ok I can understand your frustration with the program Proud Alum (though every single post youve made since you joined last week has been trashing basketball), but I do hope that when we do win a game youll be first to offer congratulations...we had another poster who seemed to struggle with that and he didnt last very long (though he kept coming back like Jason Voorhies)

The boards' rudeness never ceases to amaze me..its actually pretty embarrassing.. I commented earlier when the thread started to back off the coach and the kid. There is nothing wrong with being critical but I think sometimes this board crosses the line. This isnt the only topic where this has occurred. I think its embarrassing when the Chancellor comes on here on his own time to explain to people on this board what is going on and is in turn met with disrespect by a couple other posters. I mean really guys who do you think you are??????

My only comment was to ProudLUAlum (who may have gotten addressed by the mods I dont know). I dont have a problem with criticizing the teams or what not...my problem comes when ALL you do is criticize (and put forth an agenda as "he who shall not be named" often did). If all you do is talk about how "this sucks" or "that sucks" or "Fire so and so" or any myriad of other negative things, it gets old rather quickly.

Unfortunately, the overall negative comments on this particular subject lean more towards the inappropriate if not ridiculous.

I was once a student athlete in the 90's. I am also not on the Liberty payroll. I live 2500 miles away. At the time, I went to LU as my No. # 1 choice. Though pursued by some stronger schools like Baylor. And though I never played football or basketball... at the time of recruitment had myself, my HS / Club coaches seen some of the comparable comments on this board at times about recruits (i.e. Ryan) ... we'd certainly have had some second thoughts [being that most of you have probably never even seen Ryan shoot or play firsthand]. I'd be somewhat insulted had no one seen me compete as well. That is simply my personal sentiments and I absolutely agree with some of you that have already pointed this out (+1).

We are all certainly entitled to our own opinions. But with free speech also comes some responsibility. And some negative comments border on inappropriate and if not irresponsible.

I personally welcome a kid, whether he makes the team or not, the initial support that should come to a kid that makes Liberty his or her first choice and also signs early. Great kids like Grant Jones or Katie Feenstra also comes to mind as well etc. Sly has said that this kid is ranked in the top 15 for the city of Houston, and I am willing to at least give this kid the benefit of the doubt.

I apologize if it came across as ripping 'Ryan' and his legendary AAU coach...

My initial post was more questioning why would current staff sign a player that is similar to so many on the team... Like I said I would try to sign a 'athlete' if I were the coaches...

but also remember this is Big boy athletics (NCAA D1) where athletes are paid (scholarship) -- and in return they get criticized. ---- this isn't Home School AAU anymore fellas...
