4 is excessive. But I think SOS is calculated using RPI and I don't think NAIAs count for or against your RPI.

If it becomes a trend, then yeah, talk crap. However, not every team is in the position to go out and schedule some of the games you guys are wanting. Even Winthrop is having to back off of their tough scheduling a bit this year because they don't have the type of team to go out with the massively difficult schedule. Radford is picking their schedule up because they've got the team to do it. We're a very young and inexperienced team. The four non-DI's are ok to me this year. Now, next year I think we should ideally cut that number in half, and the year after that we should, once again ideally and if the team is progressing, be looking at one non-DI at most.

The highest seed (I can remember) a Big South team drawing in the NCAA tournament was when Winthrop got a #11 and beat Notre Dame in the 1st round in the '07 season.

That year, they played some tough schools (Wisconsin, Texas A&M, North Carolina, Maryland), But they also played North Greenville, Virginia Intermont, Limestone, and Presby (who was D-II at that point, I believe).

The reason Winthrop drew a high seed was because they had years of experience being the top team in the league, and I think that weighed on the selection committee's decision. Plus, they swept their OOC non-powerhouse teams (Old Dominion, East Carolina, etc), and had a notable win - Mississippi State.

(And it certainly wasn't because of the strength of the big south, the 4th worst conference in the nation that year).

All that to say, the non-D-I schedule doesn't matter as much as you think it does.

That would be correct, only D1s factor into the RPI. So as far as the RPI is concerned, playing NJIT is worse than an NAIA. However, perception would say that playing a mid to low D1 would be better than an NAIA - and as far as seeding in the NCAA goes, I will find it hard to believe that the selection committee doesn't consider the entirety of one's schedule, including NAIAs that don't factor into the RPI.

I think the schedule is good for this year. Give Layer a chance to get his feet under him, and then move on to better things. Don't worry about it - enjoy it & look for some wins.
