We are deep. Austin and Bill are both quality players and all I was saying is that they deserve playing time. They aren't getting it. In my opinion we have depth, Coach just does not utilize it.

Look at Coach K...

He does this all the time at Duke. He will play 6 or 7 man rotations and then when guys graduate or leave early, other guys that sat the bench the year before step up and become starters. Does this mean Duke never had depth? No. It just means Coach K didn't utilize it.

we are not deep..there is a good reason why coach doesn't have much faith in our bench...yes there have been times where they have come in and played well...but overall the bench has been disappointing...there is promise though and I think in a year or 2 it will be a different story, but for now coach is having to stick with his best players a lot...I know you're saying coach isn't playing them, but what are you seeing that I'm not when they are on the floor that tells you they deserve more playing time??

our defense is probably a bit better with some of those guys out there, but our offense is completely at a stand still...

im not trying to take a shot at you at all. I just dont agree that we are deep. I'm actually really happy to see all the interest Liberty has generated this year and def. dont wanna cut down other people that root for the flames.

I think the best way of judging depth is thinking of how big a drop off do you have when you go to the bench. I would say that other than PG with Stephene we have a massive drop off at every position at this point in these kids young careers. I certainly agree that down the road Bill especially Austin, Carter, JA, and hopefully Minaya can help to change this down the road.

We know JA can and will provide some depth when healthy

It may be semantics to some extent, but there is a difference between having talent on the bench and having depth. You have depth when you have non-starters who can come in and play meaningful minutes and be productive on a regular basis. You have QUALITY depth when those bench players can actually do something(s) better than your starters. Johnny Stephene is an example of that in that he can break down his defender and get to the rim better than any of our starters.

Bottom line is, if the coach feels we are a better team with almost all the minutes going to 6 or 7 players, it doesn't matter how much TALENT is on the bench, we are not a deep team. I still believe that Bill and Austin have the ABILITY to add depth to the squad, and perhaps even before this year is over. They just haven't earned Richie's confidence yet, and quite frankly, his is the only opinion that matters.

I can't tell you guys how pumped I am for this game. I feel like an addict going through withdrawal especially after last Saturday, and then missing the game at HP. I am counting down the hours.

I thought he was supposed to be healthy this semester. Did that change at some point?

edit: I went back and looked at the thread and it said he'd be back in December. Has anything been said since that says otherwise?

Yeah, and you know what that means? He’s in the same class as Seth, Brolin, Jesse, Minaya, Weaver, Austin, and Johnny. 2012-13 could suck

If we don't have a big crowd I will be highly disappointed. This offers the perfect situation for students to get the full experience like in football.

LU men face tall challenge in Radford center
By Chris Lang
Published: January 23, 2009

Artsiom Parakhouski, who leads Radford into the Vines Center for tonight’s game with the Flames, shouldn’t offer much in the way of surprises for Liberty.

But he is an anomaly in the Big South. Quality, skilled true centers have been rare in the conference in recent seasons. Considering two league teams — Liberty and VMI — often start five-guard lineups, it’s safe to say the Big South isn’t exactly a big man’s league.

Parakhouski, at 6-foot-11 and 260 pounds, has offered Radford a powerful complement to the hard-working, athletic 6-8 Joey Lynch-Flohr in the Highlanders’ frontcourt. Parakhouski, a junior transfer from the College of Southern Idaho, is averaging 13.8 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.

When I was a student, it was hit or miss with the students on Saturday nights. Sometimes they'd come out in full force, sometimes it seemed like everybody had something better to do. But I'm guessing there's a large bandwagon contingent this year with the Curry hype. So it should be a pretty good crowd I'd guess.
