I think Kyle does some great things for this team, but I really don't think he does anything that Bill Weaver or Johnny Stephene can't do. I really think we have to start limiting his minutes and giving more of them to Bill, or we are going to lose that kid.

Basically I just can't justify giving Kyle 35 minutes while Bill and Tyler both combine for only 5. I think he should play something like 25-28 minutes a game to open up more time for Bill and Tyler.
Certainly as we talk about the minutes this game shouldnt be considered in the mix. Although I completly agree with the general idea, I think he needed to be in more against VMI. Yes he is a liability handling the ball, but today Weaver didnt play good D when he was in, and Johnny Stephene was a turnover waiting to happen. Besides, Johnny refused to shoot the ball. Tyler looked absolutely awful during warmups at half.
Yeah, I didn't go to the game, so I don't know about this game. I just speaking on pretty much all the other games this season thus far. If we don't play Bill we are going to lose him. Plan and simple. And I think the same might happen if we don't play Austin Smith. And if Bill leaves, we will lose Tre Lee, if he is even still coming here?

Are you really going on what Tyler did in halftime warmups? If thats the case then he should have started because he killed it in pregame warmups... thats insane... and maybe hes not playing well because getting 1-7 minutes a game is killing his confidence... I think its crazy that I can look at the box score at the half and see Kyle Ohman with 19 minutes on 1-8 shooting 2 rebounds 1 assist and 6 turnovers and look and see tyler baker with 2 minutes 1-2 shooting 4 rebs and 0 turnovers not to mention how tyler opens the floor with his screening for everyone and the post attention he can bring just from getting a touch to open up the outside shot.

He is excellent at setting screens and giving shooters open looks at the basket. He needs to see the floor more.

Kyle is Kyle and his attitude won't change. I hate it but it is what it is.

My two biggest complaints outside of that are very tangible and I believe I have a case for them.

a) He doesn't hit shots when he is taking them and moving laterally. It's something that is obvious to everyone that is around me. When he spots up and shoots, he has a good percentage. When he drives and is moving forwards or backwards before his shot, he has a good percentage. When he is moving left or right before his shot, he never makes it. Someone pointed it out on here and since then I've paid attention to it and it's the thing about his game that sticks out the most.

b) He always tries to make the big play. Instead of just doing the fundamental, basic play, he goes for the homerun highlight play. My best example of this is when he was leading a fast break in the first half on Saturday. From the second he looked up, he knew that Seth was open on the wing on the break. He dribbled up a little bit before passing to him. When he finally did pass the ball, he had to try to do a no-look pass and the ball was knocked away and stolen. Had he done a simple bounce pass in transition or passed the ball when he first noticed the play was open, it would've been an easy two points. I know this is just one example, but there are others where he tries to make the highlight pass or the highlight move going to the basket when a simple pass or simple layup would work just fine.

and this was my point exactly!

I dont know that I quite agree with that, only because its been so long since he has moved towards the basket and not either dribbled it off his leg, dribbled it out of bounds, or had it stolen. He doesnt need to drive. He needs to spot up and shoot.

Really the need for the big play is the sort of thing that if I was a basketball coach would make me pull my hair out. If youve got a guy open on the wing I say give it to him either on a good bounce pass as Jon said. Course maybe that is because I take the fundamentals like running a good fast break seriously but Jon does make a good point about how he doesnt need to always be making the "big play" or the "sportscenter play"

BJ, this sounds like an allusion to another career move. Does your agent, HMO, know about this desire?

No this is not another career move (at least not at this point in life). Besides I dont even know if he sent my resume to Heritage for the football opening

He frustrates me to no end, but I always give credit where its due and tonight Kyle deserves it. Kept us in the game in the 1st and got the huge board that got Ant 3 ft's and then banged the 3 that gave us the lead. He still had his little 4 minute stretch where it seemed he tried to hard and he made a few mistakes. But he was a huge part of us tonight and he did it by doing what he does well, working hard on the glass, d'ing up, and letting others create and then spotting up and draining shots.

Dear Kyle,

Thank you. From the bottom of my not so healthy from watching all these games, thank you. We would not have won tonight if it had not been for you. When you play like that, you're one of my favorite players. I'm serious. You played like the kid trying to earn a scholarship. You did the little things. You let the game come to you. If it takes me posting things about you before every game then I will be more than happy to think of things for each game. Hopefully that's not what it takes though.

Thank you again.

Signed,

The Fat Kid

Did you see this quote in Lang's article?
“As soon I saw the ball, I said, ‘I’m gonna hit it’,” Ohman said. “It wasn’t the best pass, but I was joking with Anthony that I was going to shoot it no matter what. I was open.”

Last night I'm glad he had that attitude. His shot was falling. His mechanics were great. He played great. He can have that attitude when he's playing like that.

Good shooters should continue shooting no matter what their percentage on the night is. It becomes a problem if he's shooting us OUT of the game. However, it's never been that bad with Ohman.

We don't have enough scorers to limit Ohman. If he's got a shot, he needs to take it.
