Chances are, if you're one of the ones complaining, you never join in on the stuff we do anyways and you sat on your hands most of the night anyways. We have said all year that the goal is to get the kids to the games. Once we get em coming to the games, we'll worry about getting them involved then. You guys can't be pleased. You can't be happy that there was 3000-4000 students there last night when last year we were lucky to get 1000. You guys want everything changed overnight and there's no way that happens. Stop whining and moaning about crowd support and do something to get it going better. Get your side of the stadium to do something for once and maybe the students will see they're getting shown up and start doing more. Don't just whine about things, do something about them.
I'll complain if want and my complaint is directed at those who didn't cheer or those who live in the area and didn't show up (without good reason of course). I'm not being a hypocrite, I showed up and cheered for Mel Hankinson's 4-24 campaign. Unfortunately I live 3 hours away and my health doesn't allow me to travel.

The students were PATHETIC. You shouldn't take it as a personal attack. You can't force your enthusiasm on students who just don't care. For crying out loud. We are 11-0 at home and we can't get excited about that? It's not your fault we have a bunch of students who don't care or understand college basketball. Maybe we are dealing with a different demographic than we were 4 years ago. The school has made significant changes, maybe the students are different too. I'm guessing the students were playing with their cell phones and snapping pictures of their friends during the game. Most of them probably had no idea Asheville was in first place.

I disagree, I was standing up by the entrance for a while during pre-game warmups and everyone coming in was just standing and staring at KG. Plus, we have to factor in there was a women's game before and the breast cancer event. Also those goofy characters (forget their names) which some people (LUconn) came just to see them.

I hope I'm wrong, but I have a feeling it's going to be back to mainly students on Tuesday night. The other two home games are Radford and VMI which generally brings people out who don't normally come.
I humbly defer to someone who was there. However, I do have to think that the fact that we are playing and winning has to be a positive. I doubt if we were 5-18 the crowd would have been half as big, but then again, that is just an opinion.

there were a lot of people there to see KG. in fact, almost everyone that i know that was there who isn't normally was there for that reason. hopefully they enjoyed it and will come back. once we get a good crowd on a regular basis, then it will be like football and the chants will slowly spread through the students section.

Don't forget, although he has gotten a bit more hype this year this is not the first time Kenny George has been to the Vines, so it wasn't a total novelty. We had a decent crowd for the UNCA game last year, but nothing like this. I think the halftime show may have also been a factor for the younger crowd and their parents. IMHO the tide is starting to turn for interest with both the students and the townies. I don't expect as many Tuesday for a number of reasons, but it certainly was great to see more full seats than empty at the Vines for the first time in quite a while.

Agreed. There were alot of factors going into there being a good crowd last night. KG was the main one though.

Kel, my first sentence said I was talking to anyone within two hours of here that is complaining and not doing anything. You obviously don't fit that bill.

Overall a great game last night, the way we played the second half was amazing.

I have a question and it might be sort of stupid because I don't really know anything about the particular subject. Why don't we have a short highlight reel on the athletic website after the home games? FTN or MASN televise all of our home games and it seems like it wouldn't be an extremely difficult thing to do to. It would be awesome to be able to go on the website and see highlights from any of our home games.

that would be neat pbow, but someone with more knowledge than me on the subject would have to give some insight as to if this would be possible or not.

maybe sly or knuckle would know

Everything on the Athletics site runs through the SIDs. As long as there is hosting capacity (or clearance from rightsholders for YouTube) then it would be a fairly simple process if that is something they chose to do.

Not that I am trying to make any extra work for anybody, but the FTN crew could record a quick summary at the conclusion of the night with some analysis (cue Scar) and postgame sound before the crew strikes for the night. It take just a few minutes and could be then easily posted online.

The only hold-up could possibly be the NCAA or Big South maintaining some net exclusivity to the video. But seriously doubt that would be a hindrance on FTN telecasts.

great game...good to see us put a very solid performance together against a solid team...

the crowd was quiet for the size...but its getting better...never did I expect to see a long line of people waiting to buy tickets before a game...yes we need to be louder...but i mean come on...last year 2,000 was a good crowd....one step at a time...

Just to reminisce:

I think three years ago, before the LUnatics, good ol' Terry Falwell came to the student section to give us some dirt on Buzz Peterson that we already knew... we let him have it... his wife got her panties in a bunch and told the LUPD on us... then we he was on the way over to us, she flipped us off...

The LUPD guy just laughed it off ..... that certainly doesn't happen anymore. Buzz was certainly aware of what was going on - he would look back at his wife during the game or a timeout.

Then after the game Buzz had some words for us.

We won... I guess we got into his head.

They keep saying, "at least we're still 2 games ahead."

I think they're scared and they will have no chance against High Point.

Some of them arguing about seeding? Yeah you need to win your conference tourney first. It was proven last night that UNCA is not much better than everyone else, if any.

All the crowd stuff does take time...there were times when it was quite....and then UNCA fans would start a chant or cheer and it would be very noticeable....It cant be all on SJ's shoulders to start every cheer (I know others in his section start it as well)...but others need to step up as well higher up in the student section or where ever...there always needs to be something going on....Duke always seems to be the standard when it comes to fans and crowd....and theres never silence, even if it's just a constant ohhhhhhhhhhh or LLLLLLLLLLLLUUUUUUUUU whatever, we cant let the UNCA fans be heard

positive steps are being made and its only going to grow from here....SJ and the crew are doing a great job getting the word around, and its a cancer that will only spread from here!

P.S. we just be a great team by 29 and keep in mind they didnt have Kenny George against WU either and look at the score from that game...we are a well coached team and great great things are near....I do however wish George would have played some considering thats why 90% of the unique fans were there

Excuses, Excuses, Excuses! Where are your #12 seed National Champs now. Destroyed by 29 points (by a 13-11 team), the real Bullpuppies showed up last night. Bottom line--championship teams win tough games on the road in hostile environments. If they do get lucky and get a #16 seed now I don't think they will host it. Clearly the better team won last night.

a very nice win indeed! we are very tough at home and winthrop will need to be ready. and with all due respect to our frequent posters here from winthrop, who really cares about some winthrop hack saying our student section stinks? it is a baby step process and despite the fact that many came out to see KG last night, i think they saw a good product and will hopefully come back.

Realist wrote:Don't take is as a slight, but as encouragement, but it's not groundbreaking stuff and not the best in the conference. WU at homecoming, WU in the tourney are easily better crowds. But it's something to shoot for.

How about nearly 9K in attendance for the conference championship, which was televised on ESPN. Is that something to shoot for? Oh, I forgot, WU's gym holds only 5K. It did happen here, though, back in '04.

The Liberty Flames knocked off the first place UNC Asheville Bulldogs, 83-54, Saturday night in front of 6,566 raucous fans, inside the Vines Center.

The author must have been sitting with Super or the UNCA fans, because I didn't see any raucous behavior on the Baptist side.

so, how about that team that played on saturday night?

Did I see Justin Holland on the floor? Not only did he finally get some PT, it seemed like he was the spark that got our offense going even if he did only play 8 minutes. Jeremy Anderson with TWO shots on the night that were not 3 pointers. Kyle Ohman really needs to stop with the dumb "hustle" fouls. 14 minutes 3 points and 5 fouls really isn't doing much for the team.
