Doing anything more than fixing the seats would be tough. Any major renovations would require them to re-do the Vines to ADA specifications, which would require total overhaul because we didn't think about the disabled when we built the place, which was stupid.

For the record, the Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law in 1990 ... just a couple of months shy of our the completion of the building. We had no way of knowing that the ADA would be an issue when designing and building the structure.

what has been mentioned with somne FF members is making an actual concourse ie. enclosing the arena to make it louder. it could be done up to the HVAC duct that goes around the entire arena, but im not sure how practical it would be. i would assume it would be a new coat of paint in the arena since the locker rooms have been updated.

i don't think closing it in would be that expensive. I mean, it would cost some money but it would just involve putting a wall in between those giant pillars.
if we are forking out for seats, may as well do the job right and close it in and repaint.

repaint has got to be #2 on the list next to seats. painting is not expensive, and has a huge effect on the look. I don't see any reason not to do it

I don't think we'll ever see that wall. That's a lot of money to spend just so that it would be louder for basketball. I also think they like having the standing room at the top for overflow. As for the paint, they slapped a fresh coat on it 4 or 5 years ago and I'm sure they've done it since. But obviously they did it with the ugly color that we have on there right now. I've always thought they avoided using school colors in there because it's a multipurpose arena. It's not just for basketball games.

i know what you mean JDUB but doing all of the painting and putting up walls would be expensive, but certainly cheaper than building a new arena. we do not fill this one up for sporting events so until we do, fix it and maintain it. that is the biggest problem with LU facilities is the upkeep.

yeah, the wall may be too much, but i think a new paint scheme is a reasonable expectation.
we have the painters on staff already, all we have to do is design it and buy the paint. in the big picture, for how much it would change the appearance that isn't expensive at all!

what would you paint it? Blue? We're already complaining that it's too dark. Red? I think not. We don't want to damage eyes. White? Gets too dirty. Gray? I think that's a good choice. Although it is already gray everywhere except the concourse now that I think about it. With maybe blue and red on the stairs like in the football stadium?

haven't been in the Vines in a while. is it that bad in there now?? i never thought it was that bad but the design is kind of stupid in some ways. guess i will see at the game saturday.

there are actually four concession areas, we just only use two. one has a bunch of aramark drink machines that are cheaper than the concession stands and have no waiting. the concession stands are run by marriott/LU dining..whatever they call it now, and they do not staff the stands properly. the campbell and nyack games i waited at least 25 minutes to get somew nachos. i heard several people in line say they would never come back. the game experience is much more than just the game. i hope the athletic dept will realize that.

Sodexho at LU really doesn't do a good job of staffing people mainly because they dont have money to pay a lot of people. And the customer service suffers significantly because of it.

i hear you critic, but that cannot be a good answerfor the lack of making concessions better. if that is indeed the case athletics needs to find a way to staff the stands properly. i know you have worked for sodexho before but that is a poor excuse for that company if it is indeed true.

unfortunately its true and i am not making excuses for them in fact i really hate sodehxo anyway. The money thing is pitiful for that company and their staffing IMO doesn't do a good job anyway and i am ashamed that i am or was a part of that company. I don't work for them anymore.
