i was hoping for a coastal win so the big south would get 2 teams in post-season play. it was an ugly game, but very exciting. i was so tired of seeing coach marshall's wife running up and down the aisles and hugging all over everybody...typical ESPN. the crowd was good and loud, much better than this A-Sun game on right now

That was definitely getting annoying but at least as a fan, she has the same passion in my opinion as her husband (Coach Marshall) does.

She's not a fan, she's psycho. It was like watching a car wreck. I didn't wanna watch during the game but I kept staring at her and couldn't help it.

As for "that kid getting punched," Coastal had a kid get sucker punched in the nose by a Winthrop fan.

I guess you would know first hand being that you went to Coastal Carolina.

I know first hand being that I was there in the Coastal student section on the front row. I saw Brochu's nose after it was punched. Buzz's son and wife got knocked over as people tried to rush the court.

I was there and saw CCU fans go onto the court as the buzzer sounded. I'm not sure what their intentions were, but I'm not sure what they were doing coming on the court after they just lost. All you can say about this is what a rivalry. Man, both schools hate each other immensely.

The Coastal students started moving after Brochu was hit. They were making sure that the kid didn't get away with it. There was seriously almost a gigantic fight. Brochu had a ton of guys to back him up, just because of who he was (figure it out, I'm not naming things that could get guys in trouble). We had to leave through the tunnel that the players/coaches enter in.

That is the type of rivalry the Big South needs. Like LU and Winthrop when LU was NOT ranked in the 300's. Where is Tyson Waterman when you need him. Image

Sounds kinda like the LU/RU rivalry of the 90s...wait, LU and RU still hate each other.

It was a very competitive game yesterday. Both teams represented the Big South well, and hopefully Winthrop will do the same in the big dance.

I was very unimpressed by Jack Leasure. I realize that Winthrop played very good defensively, and he was their focus, but being POY you must show up in the conference championship. Of course I am biased, but I think that Leasure proved that he is not the best player in the league yesterday. He deserved winning the POY because he was the best player on one of the top 2 teams in the league, but he is not THE best player in the league. If he was, he would have found a way to score to give his team a lift.

I know LB has had only one chance to show how great of a player he is in the Big South championship, but looked at what he accomplished in that game! With help arriving for next year, LB will have the chance to prove he is the best in the Big South. Him being able to average 20+ this year while he was the only person teams went after on that end of the floor was just superb.

Yes I am biased, but after watching the game yesterday I couldn't help but think LB is definitely the best player in the league.

Congrats to Coastal for their achievements this year, and to Winthrop for their championship.

It should be a race between LB and Torrell Martin for POY next year. They were the two most impressive players I saw this year, by far. I might have made a mistake in voting for Leasure, but I have to live with it. I went with a completely against the grain pick for women's POY, but I don't expect others to follow suit. O'Dell will win it, but she doesn't deserve it.

Winthrop's defense was very good on Leasure, but he airballed a few good looks. He seemed to tighten up big time in the big game atmosphere. And when it comes down to it, Leasure just can't create his own shot. He needs someone else to be able to penetrate and kick, he can't free himself up. On the opposite side of the spectrum, I thought Pele was a warrior. Glad he's gone.

Can't forget about the job Colin Stevens did. He was big for them. I don't think Jack choked or anything. Sometimes shots don't fall for you and it was unfortunate for him it happened on Saturday. I said that they were not shooting well all week but give them credit for their D too. Holding Winthrop to 51 at their place was great. Congrats to both teams for representing the Big South well.

I'm curious to see how WU fares in the tourney- hope they do well for the sake of BSOUTH credibility.

Wondering if CU was that good this year (2 wins and 1 loss by 1 point is remarkable considering WU's conf success up to this point), or if WU is a little shakier than last year. Remains to be seen- conf tourneys can be unpredictable, but I'm sure Marshall will get all he can outta the guys in the dance.

Martin was tournament MVP. The all-tournament team was Martin and two other guys from WU along with Pele and Moses.

Well, obviously Coastal improved alot from the beginning of the year, and they were really playing well down the stetch, especially on the defensive end. Also, their style of play was able to exploit Winthrop's weaknesses better than anyone else WU played this year in the conference. WU might have been shakier at times this year than last, but I think other teams had a lot better idea about what this Winthrop team was going to try and do this season (since they did about the same thing last year) so in some cases, other coaches did a good job of scheming against WU.

I think since WU seems to be a lock for a 14 seed and has a decent shot of getting a 13 seed, that they'll have an opportunity to make some noise if they play well. Keep in mind, despite playing a few tourney-caliber teams early in the year (ie. Memphis, Marquette, and possibly Alabama), WU never lost a game this year by more than 14 points, so they were never really out of any game...But we'll see...

You know, WU was victim of playing in a weak conference and sometimes teams fall into the easy mindset of playing to the competition....some of these teams they played with prove that if they come to play then you may have to pay.....ugh that was awful

But I'd love to see them make some noise and Coach Marshall gets a good job out west! LoL

WEF, Coach Marshall has a ton of connections out west...why do you think he hasn't had any great offers? His resume speaks for itself I would think

WU guys will tell you he won't leave the school unless it's for a high major program. He gets paid well where he is. The catch 22 is that a high major won't give him a serious offer unless he's had success in a tougher conference.

I agree big time... How in the heck did UT get a #2 seed that might be the bigger question, but if you look at it, this is a game that Winthrop could win and I mean heck Marqutte (sp?) a team that they beat got a #7 seed unreal
