He was popular but wasn't Freddie whats-his-face a walk on? Everybody seemed to love him. When I first saw him I thought we were starting to suit up homeless men.

Sly, you didn't use and emoticon so I am not sure if that was sarcasm or sincerity but I will say this. Lee is popular but Reebs? He was almost god-like. He got in at the end of the Birmingham Southern game and scored and the crowd went bananas. There was a certain announcer that went a little nuts on the air as well. There were just so many Riber fans and I guess still are. Lee has Lee's Corner and I love that kid too but he has a way to go to reach Riber status IMHO. Getting more folks in the Vines will help and that is why we hope LB stays (it's not an officially hijacked thread if you at least reference the topic right Sly?)

Is there seriously any doubt that he will stay? There's no way he goes. Too bad the 1 year rule didn't go into effect until next year for High Schoolers. If that were the case, next year's draft would be so weak. That could only help him.

There has to be some doubt, even if just a little. No telling what people could have him believe. They could make him think that he should get drafted, and if he believed them he could possibly enter. I think that he will be back, but you never know.

Reber has to be the most popular. After all doesn't have a dining hall named after him.

it was a joke. Jeff's last name is pronounced the same way but spelled Riber. I think you need a lesson in message board sarcasm. And it's relativly mild here compared to most boards.

Wow...now thats a blast from the past. You dont' know me either jeff, but i still get chills thinking how loud those RIBER chants were....dang. Funny note....when Ed Dantes and myself ran the Champion sports section you were the inspiration for a section we liked to call "life of the walk-on" ( stories about what it took to make it) Man that brings back some memories. And there is no contest with Freddie.......none, RIBER wins hands down.

Now Scar let's don't forget about the original walk-on who played when you actually coached... Yes guys it got so bad when Scar was coaching that the walk-on had more input on game planning than Scar did!!

Respect the past Scar!

Thats because that Walkon had coaching asperations and this walk on (SCAR) didn't. I had my sights set on TV/Radio for a long time and being an ex division 1 coach and division 1 player is a good way in. Don't forget, I was a walk-on too "Guest" so I am a bit of an authority on the subject. Speaking of walk-on's probably the most influential one in terms of winning was Brian Woodson. No way they win in 2004 without him. I spoke to him last night and today as well. In fact that was who was calling when I was talking to you "Guest"(when are you gonna register man?). Larry Blair is great! (BTW if you have an icon of LB, you can't be accused of hijacking a thread about LB  )

Thanks for the love Scar, Rocketfan, jcmanson... I certainly wouldn't trade my time at LU - great experience. By the way Scar, I did see this website on facebook - on Phil Ward's (now that's a blast from liberty basketball past) "wall." And, I don't know if I'll bring any valuable insight, but I'll do my best! I am very interested in the prospect of LB heading to the draft - I'll be up in the burg this weekend so if I see him I'll have to get his take on it. I can't see him leaving early though - he's got a good head on his shoulders and a good family too. You would have to think that he needs another year of college to increase his stock before heading to the league. There were several good points made earlier about getting in to the NBA not having to do w/ where you went to school or being a jack of all trades. It's more about doing 1 or 2 things very well and if that's the case then they (scouts) will certainly give you your shot.

The homeless comment about Freddie (Williams)... hahahahah, quality joke... The funny thing is, Freddie was probably the most in vogue dude I've ever met. The guy had a new outfit for every occassion.

And... FYI - I got a chance to go head-to-head w/ Lee a couple of weeks ago... If you bump in to him on campus ask him how it went :D

Ha, the battle of the walk-on's actually takes place on the court as well as Cyberspace! Reebs you should try to get over to Stately Scarborough Manor (that is what my house is incorrectly referred to on this board thanks to Pamedic) this weekend. Or at least lets have a shooting contest at LaHaye or something....I think you asked earlier about Dees. I have not talked with him in a while but I plan on reaching out to him soon....LB's chances are good if he has a good senior year. I think the reason he is doing what he is doing is to position himself for next season and to focus in on what the scouts say he needs to do to raise his stock. He is a team player though so he is not going to go "get his" at the expense of his team. Larry is a winner and doesn't want to go through another season like last year ever again. Coach D raves about what a positive attitude LB kept throughout this season. That kind of character is yet another of the intangibles that will be measured by the NBA when they evaluate him.

I kept thinking Freddie Williams but wasn't he the tall black definsive stopper Freddie, who hit the last second shot to beat CCU (I think it was CCU) who later quit playing due to back problems? Don't tell me they were both Freddie Williams.

I'm down for whatever Scar... If you head over to Lahaye hit me up on facebook and let me know when.

LUconn - I think there was a Carl Williams that played at LU that was pretty good, but he was before my time. B/c I don't remember a buzzer beat shot to beat CCU while I was there either...

No I figured it out. It was Harry Williams. And his shot might not have been against CCU. But I'm pretty sure it was in the Big South. It was amazing because it was his only basket in like a 10 game stretch.

I was being serious about Lee. He is Flamefans-friendly.

The more old-timers we get on th eboard the better. I'm glad to see so many former players find their way here. Its always good to have people who can keep Scar's story honest.

we were just a bit ahead of the curve on this one, but here's the schools' take on it:

Blair Declares Himself Eligible For Upcoming NBA Draft
April 20, 2006 · Lynchburg, Va.

Liberty University men’s basketball player Larry Blair has officially made himself available for the upcoming 2006 National Basketball Association Draft.

On Monday, Blair formally submitted his name to the NBA offices ahead of the April 28th deadline for underclassmen to declare for the draft. Blair has selected to not sign with an agent, leaving the door open to return to school for his senior year.

“We felt this was a good opportunity and that I was prepared for it,” stated Blair earlier this week in an article featured in the Lynchburg News & Advance. “That’s pretty much the goal of the process,” continued Blair when asked about the possibility of participating and gaining exposure in the pre draft workout camps. “That’s the primary thing I’m trying to gain by doing this.”

The three-time Big South all-conference honoree led the Flames in almost every offensive category this year as he averaged 22.6 points per game, while shooting 40.4 percent from the field (234-of-579), 35.6 percent from three-point range (64-of-180) and 79.9 percent from the free throw line (147-of-184).

“Larry’s performance and abilities merit consideration by the NBA," stated Liberty head coach Randy Dunton. “Personally, I believe that the experience of competing with that caliber of athlete only provides Larry with greater incite and motivation to reach his goals.”

Blair, who currently ranks seventh in scoring in school history with 1,580 career points, will now await the pre-draft camps and the 2006 NBA Draft which will be held at Madison Square

I still dont think anyone was as popular as Jason Allison....it seemed that the building had more people in it then ever (due to the recent success) and they would all chant his name

Sorry for my ignorance on this issue but what is the possibility of Blair not returning to the team next year? If he does not return what does that do to the teams prospects for next year?

Probably 75% he comes back next season -- unless, he blows everyone away at the pre-draft camps.
