When have I ragged on anybody about spelling? I spend a good portion of my time on here fixing spelling in posts.

For the record, I just informed both boards of the decision. I'm not expecting an outpouring of congratulations.

BTW I can't believe both of those boards are using such lousy message board formats. It makes me appreciate this place even more.

I can't stand those "thread view" style boards. The uconn guys use it too. It's terrible. You have to like click 30 times to read one single thread.

Believe it or not, in the Stone Age of the early 1970's, we had some guys who were offered at "big" schools (REALITIVELY speaking), who came to LU because it was Christian (or Jerry did a good sales job or both). Right off, I know of one guy who was offered to play Navy football and one guy offered to play Providence basketball. They are probably too old to remember now but............................

I think Ed Gomes was offered by the Harlem Globetrotters. J/K.

A Georgia Tech recruting publication is reporting that both McMasters and Austin Smith have verbally committed to LU

MCMASTERS HEADED TO LIBERTY

Carter McMasters, a three-star forward from Chattanooga, Tenn., is headed to Liberty.

According to The Chattanoogan, the 6-foot-10 big man from Grace Academy, give a verbal pledge to the Big South school.

McMasters told the paper he chose the school because of "the Christian atmosphere for spiritual growth."

McMasters gives the team a big forward with a good shot from deep. He averaged 14 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks a game as a junior.

Liberty scored a verbal commitment from Arizona big man Austin Smith yesterday as well.

Thanks for spotting the confirmation. The Austin Smith mention is noteworthy as well.

I'm new to the group and am an alum of TTU. I know Carter's Mom from high school and she said he is really looking forward to coming to Liberty. He comes from quality stock and I think he'll make a good addition to Coach McKay's roster.

Welcome to the board, Radar.

Have you ever seen Carter play?

I haven't watched Carter play, but I do know that Tennessee was looking at him and Phil Jurick. Jurick being the low post and McMasters being the outside threat. Other big schools were interested as well.

That was indeed Carter draining threes from near midcourt. This kid is going to be special.

A big man who can shoot can be special, but if he doesn't have the inside game to present a threat, he might as well be 6'4". I hope Carter is working on his post game, rebounding and defense as well.

Carter's dad Tommy was also in town along with his friend Paul Pridemore. Both Pridemore and the elder McMasters played on Tennessee Temple's team in the 1980s when I was there.

yes it was great seeing Paul Pridemore too. Tommy McMasters was a major player. He could come off of screens and shoot it in all day! I really enjoyed watching him when I was in high school. If Temple was going division 1 I might have gone there instead of Liberty.

I didn't realize Pridemore was there. He was one of my counselors when I camped at TTU back in the day.

And I disagree that Carter might as well be 6' 4" when he shoots from downtown. A 6' 4" guard can be defended by a backcourt player to cur off his opportunities. A 6' 11" shooter can go over anyone in the backcourt. He didn't look as thin as I expected him to based on the reports. He looks like he has the frame to be a banger on the boards. But his shot is so smooth that he needs to be away from the basket at least a good portion of the t9ime.
