I seriously doubt anyone is going to smooth talk Jeff Barber into a job. NCAA compliance issues are a serious matter, and if there is a history of that he should be off our list.

As far as criticisms from NM fans are concerned, you have to consider the source. Albequerque is one of the most liberal cities in the US; a Mecca for new-agers and a haven for gays. I think anyone on this board who is from the area would probably agree.

Being a publicly professing christian in that environment was an act of courage, and I will gaurantee you made him a good number of enemies. I'm not saying that is why he was fired, and I'm not saying he should be the coach at LU. What I am saying is that a quote from a disgrunteled fan, regardless of how strongly worded doesn't mean SQUADOOSH! The very things which may have worked against him there could work for him here.

I understand that JB has said he is looking for a coach who is a Christian rather than a Christian who is a coach. Now we could get into a real knock-down drag-out fight about the theological validity of that premise, misplaced priorities, and a lot of other stuff. I just hope that we never get to the point at LU OF ALL PLACES where being a dedicated Christian is counted AGAINST someone who is seeking employment.

I'm not sure about the clever part or the spelling for that matter, but yes, I am almost always tuned in to ESPN to hear Tony and Mike from 5:30 to 6.

I have to say after reading the Seattle Times article, I would have serious reservations about McKay based on the players he brought to NM. Really an apples and oranges thing, and one would hope someone would know better than to recruit the same athletes to LU as to NM, but nonetheless it's a bit disturbing.

Having said that, I know of at least 2 LU players who had been incarcerated prior to their matriculation at LU. Parrish Hickman's case is fairly well known. The other, Rod Martin, was only at LU for 1 year, and was a starter on the NCCAA championship team along with Hess and Vickers. He was only 6'3", but was a legit 7' high jumper in track, and blocked what would have been the game-winning shot by Point Loma's 6'10"center in the championship game.

I think it's a 3 horse race..It has to be done by Monday or Tuesday before everyone heads off to the Atl if it is not then this could go on for a week or two but I don't forsee that happening. I think Barber has his guy and is pretty much set on him.

Alford vs. McKay at UNM http://www.abqtrib.com/news/2007/mar/22 ... ford-gets/
The big difference between the hiring of McKay and the possible hiring of Alford is that McKay came in with no pedigree - at any level of the sport. He was a bad hire from the get-go.
In a different article...
New Mexico was also said to be interested in Winthrop head coach Gregg Marshall, but, according to Katz, went with Alford because they considered it a "coup" to land a coach from the Big Ten. Many Iowa fans would probably disagree on exactly how big of a coup this really is.

BJ has his binoculars around his neck as we speak and is fitting his digital camera to the underside of his Nike's. He will be spending the next hour trying to learn to walk without a noticable limp while at the same time not destroying the camera.

Just ragging you there a little BJ, I appreciate you dedication to the program and helping those of us who live out of town keep up on the happenings in the Burg.

I'm fairly certain that despite the fact we'll likely be hearing something on Monday, the interviewing process isn't even over yet.

With the amount of money that we are allegedly offering, if some coach is haggling over that, I think that's a bunch of bull. This isn't the SEC anymore and this is your first gig. Swallow your pride
