All jokes aside, I still think by the time it's all said and done, Rick Duckett is going to be the coach of this team.

For Ritchie McKay, I think he's a solid coach. However, if someone from another, bigger school offers him a job, you know he's going to take it. I think someone like Duckett or alot of these other assistants are looking for a program they can build and put their name on.

I know it seems like I'm riding in Rick Duckett into town (Not bragging when I say that I was the first one to bring him up), but it's because I seriously think he's the right man for the job.

Now, back to my corn pops.... mmmm... gotta have my pops. Whatever happened to those commercials?

Have a blessed night!

He got out of a black SUV with tinted glass, wearing a bag over his head, as he entered the Hancock building.

Does this mean Sparky will be morphing into a War Eagle? Or will he miss that left turn at Albuquerque?

Cider Jim wrote:Barber sounds very positive in the article:
Barber said he's been happy with the response the Liberty opening has generated.

"Coaches know you can come here and win this league," Barber said.

"And because of that, there are a lot of people who want that situation. People perceive this as a great job. You look at facilities, budgeting, all those issues, and people say 'wow, there's no reason why you can't win.
I have to ask why we don't shut up and hire a coach without these types of quotes. "...know you can win in this league."
"facilities, budgeting,... "Wow, there's no reason you can't win." There are about 7 other reasons why you at least "might not" win, and one of them is the success of Winthrop. Now, Greg might be gone, they lose some people and so forth, but the new Flames coach will have to do more than admire the facilities and get his req's approved. And what happens if he only wins one BS in five years, and suffers a couple of 2nd's mixed in? What will Jeff Barber say then? "There's no reason we didn't win?"

Stop taking pot shots at the past, hire a good coach, support him, don't be ridiculous in your expectations, and enjoy the experience - is what I say. There is a lack of class lying just beneath the surface on some of these things.

(let me head off one item..) If you're going to say that this is a post from a Disappointed Dunton Diehard, - you're right.
But check out what I said apart from how I feel. What I am saying is best for the program that Jeff is supposed to be moving ahead at warp speed... whatever "warp speed" is. Some of his PR stuff has been nightmarish - time for him to wake up, or we'll have to start questioning whether he's the "right man for the job."

When you think about it from your perspective, I could see how those might be considered "shots" at the past. But really, when I read that initially, it hadn't crossed my mind. I don't think they were meant to be shots at RD.

yeah- that same thought struck me too.

went back and re-read it, trying not to get "pumped" too much about the future - and I can see how you could read it that way.

I really don't think he meant it that way- at least HOPE not- I think everyone is caught up in "new guy fever"

I agree that we need to give coaches more time, but don't think more time would have helped RD. He had 2 shots at it with very limited success. I do think it is fair to say you can win here.

And in fairness to JB, his statements, while they may ultimately be self-serving, are attributed to the prospective coaches, and we have no reason to disbelieve that they felt that way or said those things. The fact is, while these things (budget, facilities, nationwide exposure/profile) do not exist in a vacuum (ie: Winthrop and Marshall) they do indeed exist.

I staked out Hancock today (ATrain I'll get back to you if I end up getting reps) but I didn't see anybody coming in or out that was related to the basketball coach search. JB wasn't even parked in his reserved spot

I would hope our AD is pumped about selling our job... I don't care what school you're in... if your AD isn't out there talking about the great opportunity for a vacant position he sucks as an AD... I'm neutral to Dunton... and frankly I think we're still reading into way too much out of every quote from JB... give the guy some slack... he's doing a great job and is going to land a great coach... this next coach won't be Superman... but JB (or any AD in his position) better be selling the job and our University for all of it's positives or else he should get canned.... Coaching changes are one of the few times when his quotes will get some national press for our University... they'd all better be positive... I'd much rather him pump up the opportunity like crazy than to sit back and wonder how every word will be taken among critics...

BJ...looks like you are going to get reps for no apparent reason. You staked out the wrong area.... Just a guess, but convo would have been a GREAT place to stake out a coach who was potentially interviewing at a Christian university... Great job Sparky! Did you get any pics, autographs?

Im in pretty good with my RA (he's a friend of mine) so I may not get any but I probably would have been better served being in convo if I knew that they wouldn't be going by Hancock during the service
