So, if LB doesn't get it, then there will be this tremendous chip on his shoulder during the tournement, and he may very well end up proving his skeptics wrong in the process.

....can't wait for the LU/HPU match-up, which will be played on a neutral site.

Donnell Covington getting any sort of all-conference recognition is an absolute joke.

Yes they left off some good players for a last place team player that was just decent but not dominant.

And AZ Reid definitely deserved player of the year. No offense to Larry, but Reid is just far and away the most complete player in this league.

Realist wrote:I will stick by my predictions from earlier this month:

Reid
Bradshaw
Jenkins
Blair
Williams.

Honestly, I don't see how you can reason anyone else on there. Reid has been phenomenal. Jenkins and Bradshaw the two top performers over the course of the year on the team with one game to win to go undefeated. Blair, scoring title. Williams, nation's top scorer (not sure if he still is but close enough if not).

I just can't put Oliver on there, I know he's a decent player but I've always felt that he would be just a 14-6 guy on other teams (that's still good). Martin just didn't play enough games and has almost taken a rebounder/defender role since he's been back. His MO is always the tournament anyways.

POY will probably go to Reid, though I think Bradshaw may have made it a more interesting vote when he completely outplayed him in the title clincher.

Second team (really muddled)
Brewington
Leasure
Sonko
Oliver
Smithson

These are personal picks but I doubt it will work out this way (I feel pretty confident about the first team). My guess is a CSU guy like Covington will sneak on just to get CSU represented.

COY
Marshall (if he goes 14-0 I can't pick against him, if he doesn't, maybe Lundy)

Freshman team
Harris (FOY)
Mack
Johnson
Knicksus (whoever that CSU guy is)
Jenkins

Mack and Harris are a close call, but I'll take Harris b/c of defense.

Haaaah! I knew it!

I can't argue the individual winners ... but after the top five, that second team is up for great debate.

I think this is the second year in a row that Realist got the 1st team exactly correct. I thought he had the second team correct last year too but I could be wrong. That second team is crazy. Much debate is right Sly.

Travis Holmes. He does lead the nation in steals. Tough to argue against that.

The first team was no-brainer territory. Even though Bradshaw's numbers aren't as impressive as the other four, anyone who has seen him play live knows he belongs on that first team. You can't hold against Bradshaw the fact that he has a lot of help around him. He's one of the best five players in this league hands down.

Didn't you say you'd share your choices with us, Chris?

I'm very interested to see who you had on the second team.

agree on bradshaw

If that's the case for DPOY then shouldnt the same be true for Williams on the Offensive side

My first team was the first team. My second team was:

McLean
C Holmes
Martin
Oliver
Sonko

Tough call between C Holmes and Leasure for that last spot. I liked Holmes' consistency and his presence on defense, so I went with him.

HMO -- the other choice on the ballot was Anthony Smith, and he disappeared defensively too many times this season to be seriously considered.

Eddie Biedenbach said that LB Martin and AZ are the 3 best players in the league. He thinks Bradshaw and Jenkins and Williams are great too but those 3 are special. He votes in the coaches poll and with Martin, he has WU as a top 25 team each week.

Just for the heck of it, I'll argue against it...

He leads the nation in steals... but how many points does VMI give up? Since Coach Marshall has been at Winthrop the Eagles haven't really been known for scoring a lot of points. Yet, against VMI we scored 108 (home) and 109 (away). I don't know for sure, but I'd guess that WU turned the ball over a good bit in those games and that Holmes got a lot of steals, yet Winthrop set a (Marshall Era) record for points scored in each game. My point is that even though Holmes had a lot of steals, VMI gave up a ton of points. I think it was said before, if the VMI style 'hurt' Williams on the offensive side it should have done the same to Holmes on the defensive side. With their style of play, offensive and defensive stats get inflated.

Has anyone seen the article on bigsouthsports.com? They have a picture above the headline, and can someone please tell me why is Jack Leasure pictured on there? Everyone else pictured was an individual award recipient. But not Jack, why is he pictured? Ugh... I can't stand that guy!

I said it on BigSouthTalk and I'll say it here: Martin and Leasure getting on there is a joke. Leasure simply hasn't shown up on multiple occasions and Martin missed way too much time. Also, the kid from CSU? C'mon, get serious.

Leasure on there so none of the writers feel like idiots for voting for him for POY last year. I'd look in your direction Lang, but you admitted last year you immediately regretted that decision.

And I didn't vote him this year, either. Wasn't consistent enough for my tastes.

I'm sorry SJ, Torrell Martin had to be there. He's one of the 10 best players in the conference. I don't care if he missed six games. When he finally got back to full strength, he was dominant.
