Personally I think this is a bad, bad move...but I don't know the process behind and I'm just gonna wait and see what comes out of it schedule-wise.

We're only hearing one side of the story. Perhaps there are good reasons why we pulled out that haven't been revealed quite yet.

Thats True... That Just wasnt my only argument, but was one, but for the record.... What would be a good excuse?

It may be a bad move, but I don't think anybody is treating this guy like a god...they are giving him the same treatment they gave Rocco when he first game in here....respect his decisions and hope they turn out for the better.....i think that is all anybody is doing on here.....but then again you are the one with street cred (haha, sorry I couldn't resist)

Giving a new coach the benefit of ignorant doubt isn't close to calling him a god.

It appears to me that you've got some other issues with coach that are spilling over... it may be best to deal with those and not to insinuate that anyone on this board compares him to God. It's a lame move. You're bitter about something... fine... just find a better choice of words.

We've been to the Shootout before... I don't recall it being such a big deal for our school. It was obviously set up with RD's connections and it's just not vital to our interests in the future. While I'd like to see us honor our commitments, under a new coach it is a little more understandable that changes may be made. This is why the NCAA typically releases students from commitments upon a new coaches arrival. Things change.

for the record the great alaska shootout is not what some people are making it out to be, there are far better tourneys out there for us to play in in the future if we pull out and are never let back up there.....

TBGBGBGBGBGBG, you're the most biased person on the face of the planet. You think Kevin Keys is the devil because Dunton told you to think like that. You don't like McKay because they're not going to hire you and let you do the same stuff Dunton did. If you're going to be biased and hard-headed, at least tell people your reasons

These tournaments are overrated. I'd rather have a home-and-home series start with in-state schools where fans can travel to rather than going to the furthest state away to play two teams that are currently out of our league.

Decent point by Tally. If RMK has a good name with the other coaches around the country, then they might
be understanding about the new guy making some changes which, under normal circumstances, would be considered to be poor etiquette.

What if everybody did that? A new coach would never succeed. Nobody would go to any games until we had a winning team.

As for the Alaskan shootout, it's national exposure (even if it is on from 10pm - 2am). Which is good. But other than that, it's pretty useless. I wouldn't cry a river if we weren't ever invited back.

Super Jon, You may think you know, but you dont. I dont like Kevin Keys cause hes an idiot and doesnt do his job. I dont dislike RM, i just wont like him until he proves himself. Now if you want to try to blast me on the internet you can and I dont care, but at least know what youre talking about before you come blabbering some ignorant crap. My reasons were: I REFUSE TO RIDE HIS.....UNTIL HE DOES SOMETHING

Andy, I'm not trying to blast you on the internet. People know why I have a bias when it comes to the SFC. That's fine. It's understood. If you're going to have a bias against someone, at least tell the reasons why.

But if It was all you ate, there would be none...

and SJ, I said why I am not going to love him right now. I dont really call it a bias cause a bias doesnt change. I will like him when he does something, but that doesnt mean I dont respect him now. I have respect for him because he is a DI coach, but I dont like anything about him yet because he hasnt done anything. Kevin Keys on the other hand is a bias because chances are thats not going to change, unless he starts working (from a basketball side) and changing things.

As far as the home & home, I understand that we had that with UAA, and I would have thought that it would have been a good experience, both for the players and for the fans.

For better, or worse, I can hardly believe that this was RMK's call. At the big schools, at least in football, their schedules are set years ahead, and I know Lou Holtz said that he was not responsible for the schedule at Notre Dame. Does a D-1 coach really come in and tell the AD that he's not going to honor the schedule? Maybe he does... can some of you educate me on this...

SCAR ??? SLY ???? Purple.. others....

He could've said, "Look, this tournament is stacked against us. There are two teams that are out of our league and the chances are we're going to get hosed against UAA on their home court. There's no point in going up there to be the whipping boy of the tournament."

We were the laughing stock of Sportscenter when we played Florida last year. We don't want that happening again.

There are ten (I think) other Division I schools in the state of Virginia. Let's play some of them for once.

I have no problem having some games which are a step up for us, but we don't need to go half way around the world to play them.

Just as a side note, more than 1 SEC team came off looking worse than us against Florida. (At least final-score wise.)

grm,

I'm not an authority in these matters, but I believe at most of the big schools the AD is primarily involved in setting the football schedule, and these are the ones that are done years in advance. I think schedules of other sports are left more to the coaches, and are more flexible, although I'm sure Men's BB schedules are looked at closely by the ADs.

Those aren't bad thoughts from SJ - at all. However, this was a national tournament...
And I understand that RMK would have input.

You guys all know that this whole thing is hard on me, because you try to put the program at a higher level, you play the big games in an attempt to establish a top level program, you then have the Florida's, the Duke's, and the Oklahoma's become a part of your permanent record, and then you are told that your record is not where it ought to be.

Now, we pull out of some big games, and as it was said, (paraphrase) if we had played Rutgers, we would not have had a winning record....

So, don't play the tough guys, get a winning record, and you're a great coach and the AD is turning a new page in LU history. I guess it's a formula that looks good, and maybe it will work.

Anyway, it's about this year, and I want RMK to be successful.
