Realist is more than a Winthrop fan though Trust me. Why do you think he is on here all the time JC? Also Realist, I stand corrected, I was down there last season. I have gone the past few seasons to that game. Hubbard not playing the point? I know not of what you speak   That is the night Deandre Adams hit the half court shot as the clock was running down then the wheels fell off for the Flames.

Is that a Mrs Gregg Marshall reference? :P crazy stuff. I gotta believe you would treat a fellow Flamefans.com member with some love. Realist has been around here before many on this board back to the old firehouse days. And before anyone gets any ideas about Realist's identity, his last name is not Meyer 8). He is good guy though for sure.

well, he may be a nice guy in person, but he's shown himself to be an idiot on more than one occasion on the ESPN board.

Hey, I may come across as overzealous sometimes but those radford retards needed it, to keep in line. Now with them shutup and irrelevant, in combination with our season last year, I probably would have said something to make myself look real dumb, but luckily this board came about and I was sheltered.

I always look at the messageboards as a place to talk trash in some places, talk friendly banter in others. The espn board has always been filled with nonsense, from everyone and myself included.

I do think that CSU poster on there now has some serious issues though.

maybe not last year, but damien is doing an amazing job and running this team right now. he hasn't been turning the ball over and he's been beasting on the boards. he even played good at pg in the OU game.

Wow

Ok a couple of things reading this thread. Our program has never been all that strong or anything to beat our chest about other than very good support. Still last year was very uncharacteristic and pretty much a total fluke.

Here is Liberty for comparison

Our program is generally pretty mediocre in the grand scheme of college basketball's 335 teams but nothing like last year. Last year the reason we were so bad was because players transfering over the summer with the new coach that left us no time to recruit. We had players transfer to Pitt, Marquette, UTEP and Xavier before the season. The year before that we had 3 other players transfer as well so it really depleted our talent.

The ECU transfer to Pitt and is starting and averaging 13ppg on the #2 team in the nation. I think you guys undersale the type of talent we have been getting, we just haven't been able to keep them 4 years. Seeing this team it is clear to me that Stokes has brought in some good talent, IMO better than what I have seen in a while. They are young but I will be absolutely shocked if we get run of the court. That includes by Winthrop as well.

I'm just going off of what I saw last year when they came to the coliseum (and the fact that they've been pretty bad the last few years aside from beating a couple of middle of road Cusa teams).
.
Middle of the road like a few of these wins?

Marquette..top 10 Dwayne Wade lead eventual final four
Marquette..top 10 Dwayne Wade Lead tourney team
Lousiville...Pitino Lead 18 win team
UAB....2nd round tourny team
Charlotte top 25 tourny team
Oregon State 4th place PAC 10 team
UNCW recieving votes in the final poll last year

We'll see Winthrop in a couple of weeks at home.

For the record, Realist is a Winthrop fan. So take that for what it is worth, ECUpirate.

I don't think anybody who knows what thety are talking about is taking this game for granted.

If this team is as good as the kool-aid drinkers are saying, we should win by double digits.

but we aren't as good as the kool aid drinkers say we are...but we aren't nearly as bad as we were last year...this will be a nice test for us...a winable game, but one we can win

There is no telling how either team will play. We are capable of winning by double digits but I think ECU is capable of the same. Radford beat Richmond tonight by 16 in Richmond. I don't think Richmond is that much worse than RU but they came out flat due to being so young. 4 freshman and a walk on start for Richmond. Sometimes it takes time to gel. 10 new faces for ECU. They could come out and play terrible or they could come out and win a tough game on the road. No telling really but I think it would be a tremendous win if we win by double figures. I don't know why we assume we should be ECU by 10 or more. That is just not how things work. It could happen but it should not be expected as a given.

Surely you don't mean that Jon? They are a division 1 team with scholarships and play in a power conference. Why are we supposed to beat them hands down again? Are we the Harlem Globetrotters and are they the Washington Generals? I don't get it. This is not Cincinnati Christian coming into the Vines on Saturday. You must not have seen ECU play or you would not say that. I would say that you should wait til Sat but I guess you will have to TIVO it since you will be at the concert. I'm telling you though, these guys are not a pushover.

The way lureal, Manger, and others are making our team out to be, we should win hands down. If we expect to compete with Winthrop, we better be able to be a lower-tier C-USA team. A lower-tier C-USA team would be middle of the pack in the Big South. With this game being at home, we should win. No excuses about not having Brew. He could play one game and break his ankle and all of the hype would be for nothing. He could get in foul trouble. We have to win without him against decent D-I teams for us to even talk about competing for the Big South title.

It would not surprise me if ECU comes in here and beats us. I'm trying to believe the hype, and if I believe the hype, then I must believe we should not lose to ECU.

but we aren't as good as they say we are....they are drinking something if you know what i mean...it will be a close game...if you look at both teams in an unbiased way and an educated way you will see this will be a close game....

postman, I agree completely with you. I can see either team winning. I'm just trying to see things like they do so that maybe I can get excited about this team. I'm doing whatever I can to trick myself into caring more.

yeah...i think we have a decent team and by the end of the year will look a lot better then we are right now...we have improved from last season, and that is something to be excited about...I don't think this program is going in the wrong direction, but if this season does become a repeat of last season then there will need to be changes made...but that has been said...but I think Coach D is a good coach, and I would expect improvements...but killing a half way decent CUSA team isnt going to happen...it just isnt

ps everytime i click on the link to watch your video SJ it says maintenance is being done...but it seems everybody else can see it, i don't get it....

Not that this has anything to do with the game, but I know the guy in charge of the East Carolinian (which is the campus newspaper) and he told me an interesting statisic about how many people had STD's at ECU. I won't put it out there, but it's astonishing. May make for some good heckling.

No, it wouldn't, because it's cliche'd. Everyone knows ECU has a reputation for that (when, in fact, UNC-C took over that title in recent years).
