Add in UNCA going to ECU and winning after nearly winning at Wake, Coastal going out to Pauley and playing well in a loss, and the aforementioned CSU win at Old whiz, and the conference is off to a nice start.
I know it goes against pretty much everything this board has stood for, but after this football season, and now the start the conference is having in basketball can we start to say that maybe the Big South is no longer a TOTAL dumpster fire of a conference?
May I dare say the Big South may be equal to the CAA now in basketball?

Umm, I wouldn't go that far. Back when GMU, VCU and ODU were in the CAA...it was a very legit basketball conference. My comment was comparing the Big South (basketball only) to the current CAA (basketball only) this year.

Nice win last night. Can't believe this is the first time we've started 2-0 since '99-'00. Wow. On to VT, this is a game we should be able to hang around and be competitive in.

Also, great start by the Big South (other than Presby). Hopefully that keeps up.

I am not a betting man, but a guy I know tried to bet me $5.00 that Liberty beats VT. I think VT will "run on LU", and we cannot run with them. Now if VT were to play a half-court game, then we may have a chance.

Ummm NO! Don't get carried away guys. CAA was 15 in RPI last year. And when VCU,ODU and GMU was there they were a top 10 conference in hoops. Big South is not close. Delaware is talented but will struggle to win games at times this year. Last year's Delaware team wins this game going away because they knew how to close. Coach Ross' kids don't know what a good shot is yet which was reflected in that 29% shooting percentage. Good win for the Flames though. Happy for Coach Layer. They have a chance against VT on Wed.

SCAR is great, and Clement did a good job last night, especially for a newbie. For the ff community it won't be the same no matter how good Townsend gets as he learns the team and develops a rapport with Nick. SCAR is one of us, and with the the decision to go with inhouse talent and the attitude the school seems to have about staff and ff, I would say it's highly unlikely we will ever see anyone in a major broadcast role as a regular contributor here again.
I would agree with that last statement about major broadcast talent. Liberty pays very poorly to be honest in comparison to what other outlets are doing especially with the resources and amount of money they are putting into the telecasts. Plus little things like hotel stays which should have been taken care of for me were never done. I liked working with the people I worked with and it truly gave me an outlet to do what I love to do. Bruce Carey, Ken Towes and the rest of the guys behind the scenes are BIG TIME Professionals and they made me look good. I appreciate my experience but there are definitely things they would have to do differently to attract major talent for that seat at this point. But they if they wanted to they could go after serious talent and land it. They would just have to change the way they do things in terms of taking care of talent financially.

let's look at the big 3 sports.
Full season for football and it looks like the BSC will finish the season ranked second only to the MVC in the GPI for FCS.
Several years a respected conference for baseball.
Yes, it's early for basketball this year, but certainly a good start.

I hardly think suggesting in an internet whisper that perhaps the BSC is not a TOTAL DUMPSTER FIRE constitutes much in the way of "love". Let's face it; this board has a deeply engrained bias against the conference we are a member of, and not without reason. It has been a negative for us everywhere from the selection committee boardroom to the recruits living rooms. The reluctance to accept anything positive is somewhat understandable, but at some point you have to look at the results and acknowledge where progress has been made.

This is the men's hoops forum, so I was speaking largely in response to basketball. The conference was #28 out of 33 conferences last year. I'll check back in December for this year's ranking.

Football has gotten better, but unless we upset the #1 team in the country on Saturday, it will be a 1 bid league. Not to mention being on fumes with the number of teams. Be thankful for Monmouth & Kennesaw State for now.

I know it's only been two games, but Tomasz is averaging 18.5p & 9.5r while shooting 50% from field, 44% from 3, and 83% from FT.

It is soo refreshing to not have to watch JCS and Davon anymore..This team will be a lot better from a chemistry stand point. I think this is the first time in a long time that Liberty has a go to/star player in Gielo. I think this team can be really good come conference time and I think they have a shot at winning the league. Undoh is a beast..he could be pretty special. James Johnson did not play great but the effort he brings on every play is great. This is the first time since Layer came on that I actually enjoyed watch the team play.

We still need to figure out who is our 2 man? Look at Moller's stat line so far, looks like a point guard's. Maybe Reid can develop into a starter? But then the bench is thin at guard.

There is room still left on the Gielo Band Wagon! Glad the team is in his hands this year

Gielo has been great, but the team is in "Extraordinary" Joe Retic's hands.

Not from the Leadership level. On the court I've been saying for years we are a much better team when the offense flows through Gielo Its nice to finally have players that sense that too

Way too early to say Moller can't score. He was the second leading Danish scorer in his club league at over 15 ppg, and if you look at his video his stroke is as pure as the Scandinavian driven snow. If he is still putting up goose eggs after a few more games we might want to look at Reid starting, but AC didn't exactly light it up in his first game against D1 competition either. Having a SG who can also facilitate like a PG could be awesome.

I'm not off the Moller train yet, just saying it's still the biggest hole on the team. In a perfect world, he will develop into a 10ppg scorer and we can leave Reid coming in off the bench.

I do love this line from the 2 starting guards though - 16 assists & 2 turnovers

I would not say our offense has flowed THROUGH Gielo Purple. It has flowed TO him, and he has been aggressive and done a great job of scoring and rebounding. Retic and Moller have been the facilitators.

He's got a long leash...there isn't really anyone else.

Moller is probably not ready to play full-time minutes there and the walk-on's shouldn't be playing much. We're a little thin at PG but having someone like Gielo, who can handle the ball a little as a point-forward, is absolutely necessary.

I know that I've been very critical of the basketball team in the past and I still don't have high hopes of a great season. However, I'm not going to not praise this team when they deserve praise. We beat a tough team last night. I didn't get to watch the game but I'm very impressed with the big win.

The Big South had a great night last night, and if things continue this is going to be a very tough conference.
