Being appreciative (or not) has nothing to do with race. I think a lot of the Europeans playing NCAA basketball are particularly grateful for the opportunity because a lot of the guys they played with and against back home would love to be in their shoes. Same with the unselfish play. it's a product of the system they came up in which stresses individual play less than American HS ball and (ESPECIALLY) AAU summer ball.

We Have offered a 6'10" 265 Nigerian born C who is playing this year for Bull City Prep in Raleigh and attending Pace Academy. His name is made to order for LU.

GodsPower Ogide

GodsPower played for a state championship team at Bishop Kearney in Rochester, NY last year. He has numerous other D1 offers including NC State and Temple, and is also a football prospect as an OL.

If Pace Academy sounds familiar, that is the school former signee Stavian Allen attended as a Senior. Stavian played for the Pace team while GodsPower is playing for the strictly basketball Bull City Prep. All the BC Prep kids take their classes at Pace.

Based on the fact he has not signed yet and his choice as to where to play this year I'm gunna guess he may have eligibility issues.

It would be nice to see a Nigerian Center that can ball, patrolling the paint in the Vines Center. It has been too long. I would have had a ton of fun with that name on LFSN too!

I would love to see it as well, even though it would wreak havoc with my theory that "Poland is the new Nigeria".

I bumped this thread to point out that the transfer of John Dawson from Marquette means that as of this moment we have a full complement of scholarship players entering next year. Dawson is a PG, which would fill a need for sure.

Bumping the thread again due to the recent flurry of recruiting activity by the new staff. 3 players being looked at. All are guards who can play the point:

Lovell Cabill 6'3" PG Arlington, TX Mansfield (Summitt HS)
Anthony Eaves 6'2" CG Louisville, KY (Ballard HS)
Hansel Atencia 5'10" PG from Columbia, by way of Mountain Mission HS in Grundy, VA OFFER

I don't know how they have done recently, but at one time Ballard HS was one of the top basketball schools in the country, sending players to high major programs every year.

All this is telling me that you can pretty much put it in the bank that at least 2 guards on the current roster won't be back. This is not a bad thing. Ritchie can fill those schollies with guys that fit his system, which can make us better even if they aren't huge upgrades talent wise. I think it's a pretty safe bet Moller is one. The other(s)??? Dawson, Dembley and Retic are all possibilities, and signee Caleb Homesley could probably get a release with the coaching change. I would think we will know by the end of April.

Thanks for the clarification. I assume we were at the big Adidas event in DFW this past weekend since we were out at Mansfield. So I suspect we will hear some more about late 2015 offers in the next day or so.

Besides Atencia, there are at least 5 other unsigned 2015 players Layer offered (3 SG, 1 PF and 1 C) but it's safe to assume that those offers were pulled when we filled our allotment of scholarships with last Fall's class and Dawson's transfer. Perhaps one or more of them may be considered again if we have more attrition.

I'm guessing that Ritchie had plenty of kids on his radar from his UVa tenure. He would know if there was a questionable qualifier that might slip between the racks and fall into our laps. But more likely, we ware chasing a late bloomer. A lot of kids simply don't break out until their senior season after most of the schools fille dup their classes in the fall.

Signing period starts today and goes through May 20. Sounds like we have a commit from Lovell Cabbil, but we will have to clear at least 2 returning scholarship players from the roster to make room before we can sign anyone.

I haven't seen a commitment but confirmation he has received an offer from LU.

Looking at the list of kids looking to transfer, Charlotte is losing a couple of Freshman Guards, Torin Dorn and Keyshawn Woods. I hope they both land in Lynchburg. They are REALLY Athletic and good defenders and both play on the rim from the guard position. Dorn is the son of an NFL player.

I would think most, if not all, of the 2015 offers made by DL we see on places like verbalcommits were probably pulled by Dale after Dawson transferred in and it was determined Gielo would be redshirting. Not really fair to have a bunch of open offers hanging out there when you are already over the scholarship limit. As far as the offers we have made for 2016 and 2017 are concerned, I don't see any real need for Ritchie to rush decisions as to whether to keep them open. Lots of time for that. I certainly hope we will continue to pursue Brendan Newton, the local 7'2" kid, who is in the class of 17, and another one that looks like a keeper is 6'7" AZ SF Brock Gardner from the class of 16. On video he looks like Drew Smith with significantly more skill, and he is an outspoken Christian.

And soccer7 turns out to be a prophet. 8)

Maybe over analyzing a bit here, but it would appear that the focus of new recruiting activity exclusively on guards may indicate the Commits from Jurch and Karwowski are still solid. I would think that bigs who can shoot the 3 would be ecstatic at the opportunity to play for McKay as opposed to Layer. The other side of the coin is that the guy who was their primary recruiter (Joyce) is gone, although I'm sure they have had contact with Mance, if not in person.
