In reality, we don't have personnel to run much of anything, but with practice I think we could run the high/low, as long as they kick ball back out to the shooters.

What is going on with Jello? At one point, when the team looked like it was turning it around, I was ready to clamor for him to be the centerpiece of the offense. He was really effective whenever he got touches. He's been MIA for this last stretch of losing. This team's fate seems to be tied with how well he plays.

I love me some Gielo. I don't know what he is like in practice but I would be more willing to make him the focal point of the offense while putting up with his short comings than I would JC. But that's just me.

The player who was recruited to be the starting PG and offensive facilitator for this team was Emmanuel Andrews, the JUCO PG we signed from Cape Fear CC where Trap played and Ryan Mantlo is the coach. When he didn´t make it to campus (I can only surmise academic issues) we tried Marshall. He clearly was not comfortable with the role, and is better playing off the ball. Larry Taylor, the other PG may or may not be a good player some day, but he clearly isn´t ready. That left JC. IMHO he has done a great job for a player who certainly did not expect or plan to have to do this and has played off the ball while his brother ran the show basically his entire basketball life.

It´s real easy to say he shouldn´t be doing what he is doing. Look at our roster and tell me who can, and PLEASE don´t tell me Gielo. He and Speaks are the true turnover machines on this team, and Gielo has shown flashes here and there, but has also disappeared for entire games.

If they got more in the flow of the game you would see their TO's plummet. A lot of that is also predicated on who dominates the ball. If you don't know what that person is going to do, it's tough to figure out what you should do. I agree I'm not sure we have a true PG on our roster. But if we had a guy who was a facilitator we would be better. We have people who are capable of that, but chose not to

Next season, do we have any incoming freshmen who can start and contribute immediately ?

As things stand now, with our only available scholarship we have signed Ryan Kemrite, a 6´4 shooter from Texas. Highly unlikely he would start, but I think he could be an upgrade. I fully expect we will have at least 1 or 2 more players who will transfer or not have their scholarships renewed, especially if there is a coaching change, which is looking more and more inevitable.

No offense to anyone, but it's hard to believe we only have 1 scholarship available. We are in a position where we need to bring in at least 3 players who can start and contribute the day they set foot on campus, and build a winning program. These role players on the bench are not the hope for the future.

If you were actually following the program it wouldn´t be hard to believe at all. We would have had 2, but with Burrus being redshirted, he will be be esentially our top recruit next year, and despite the yuks some people have had about him here, playing the 4 he will be an all conference candidate.

You´re really on a roll beating dead horses lately Purple. For Chippy (I think it was him) to have said we are one Antwan Burrus away from being good this year may have been at best a stretch, but it´s not likely we will be able to recruit a Freshman who is good enough to make a bigger impact than his return will make next year as a mature 5th year Senior with tons of experience.

IMHO we have never had a chance to see how good Antwan Burrus can be because he has always had to play the 5 where he is undersized. I can´t imagine a scenario where that will be the case next year.

Last night I saw our team that could not or did not know how to rebound or play defense.

Better hope Burrus does not get injured next year if you are counting on him to be the team messiah.

now you know what we went through with that 6 game losing streak?

Question: why were most of your mid-week home Conf. games moved from Wednesday to Tuesday's?

I was wondering the same thing. It's super annoying as I normally have something to do on Tuesday nights. Did they used to be on Wednesdays? I was thinking Thursdays. It might have to do with on campus students having hall meeting on Tuesday nights. Maybe they figure since they have to be back at 10 they'll just go to a basketball game while they wait? Do they even have hall meetings anymore? I can't keep up with all of the rule laxing.

no, with the 12 team league, the schedule template is now Wednesdays/Saturdays.........except for individual home team conflicts, taken case by case. (and, the pre-bracket buster games were on Tuesday, because the VMI-CSU game was on that Thursday instead of on Feb. 2nd).

Could it be that the Big South still thinks we have campus church at the Vines on Wednesdays?
