They waited over 30 days to release the story. It's not like they rushed out to publish this thing.

From viewing your Twitter feed, I see that you've been watching my posts on the football lines, eh? :D

I loved Liberty, but people on this site are way too overprotective of the school at times. We can't just simply blindly accept things because we want to support the administration.

Between BJ's and Sly's remarks this whole thread has become a joke.

I think SJ pretty much summed up my feelings on it. We need to stop getting angry with people when something is exposed and simply respond with the truth. This has been going on a long time at Liberty and it has gotten old but as long as there are people out there defending the school when they are doing wrong it will continue to give those in the wrong justification to continue the course of secrecy. I am not OK with that

Last comment on the matter...this is a very unfortunate situation and Coach Eaker deserves our prayers regardless, as does his family. As someone who has never had to deal with that sort of struggle, every single person on this board should remember that we all can fall whether we are an assistant coach at a Division I college, a youth leader at a church, a father of two or a newly married young adult.

This is something that could EASILY happen because of an accident or simple error. For an example -- my son takes medication for ADHD. That medication is considered a narcotic. For a while, the stuff he was on wore off at about noon, so there was a bottle at school for him so he could take some at lunch time. We had to get an extra bottle when we got the prescription filled so that the school would have a bottle too.

If I ever forgot that, and gave the school the "good bottle" and kept one that was out of date, I could have been arrested. No malice, no criminal intent. Just forgot to get two bottles when the thing was filled. (Thankfully, that never happened, and now he's on something that is time released so he doesn't have to take anything at school anymore. Fact remains that it could have happened, and people would be speculating about the preacher that got busted for drugs.

That said, the school really needs to be out in front of this stuff. Letting people know what REALLY happened BEFORE the story is published on the Internet keeps rumors from getting started.

So because I am upset at how the University has historically and currently handles these issues it means I don't think they deserve prayer?

Please BJ. You are simply avoiding the issue because you hate when people paint LU in any light other then positive. I love LU, but I am sick and tired of them reacting to these things instead of be proactive. It makes them look bad and in the process it makes the degree I hold from them that I am still paying off look bad. This is the reason I take things like this so seriously. I want the best for this school and covering things up and lashing out at a blogger in anger is not the way to do it from someone who suppose to be a spokesperson for LU.

This is my school and I want the best for it.

Quite simple really...some people believe in the transparent approach and walk through it with humility and integrity to restore while others worry about image. Actual the first will always strengthen your image because it is the right way to do things.

Please do not think for one second I am on your side of anything. You simply hide in the bushes and wait for bad things to happen. This problem goes much deeper then an athletic director who you have a problem with because he fired your friend who also swept things under the carpet while he was here.

I do too postie. Like the vast majority of the people on here, yourself included, my degree carries the name of this institution on it. As such, when situations like this come up, it hurts my heart as Im sure it does a lot of people around here. It also brings about feelings of anger, which in many cases are justified, either over the circumstance itself, or the response of the university to the circumstance. Ive never been one to respond with anger to a lot of things because to be completely honest, it was a struggle of mine for much of my life and over the about 10 years Ive been a Christian (another story for another day as to how that came about), Ive made it a point to keep my anger in check. At the same time, I am more willing to give the benefit of the doubt than most, maybe due in part to my attitude (also another story for another day), but I just want to let it be known that I am upset about things at Liberty, though my responses on here belie that.

Believe me over the years I have put my money, time and energy in LU Athletics. You are right that people were mistreated...Felonies were not swept under the rug in the past. Let's get real about where we are at and how much time/$$$ has been squandered to get here!

Liberty athletics can do what they want with this situation, and Asa Chapman's as they wish..... But rest assured the respected teams will never reach championships when trying to mix sin and savior.

Is it a $$$ issue?

Is it a facility issue?

Is it a leadership/philosophy issue?

Why are you so afraid to be honest about how to build a program?

My alma mater has had its' fair share of some embarrassing problems in the past (and apparently now with football). I've shook my head and thrown my hands up in disgust quite often for one reasonable question I ask, and it seems the same applies here....

I thought my school held people to a higher standard due to the Christian foundation upon which it was founded and built.

We're all sinners saved by grace..that's not the issue. The issue is the standards of the institution, not just the athletic program, and if they are being upheld by everyone employed and representing them, be it the President, professors, coaches, janitors, etc.

Just an outside .02 on your situation.

You know the answers to those questions and you know where I stand. I believe the culture of sweeping things under the rug has been happening for a long time and a legitimate PR dept has not really existed. They had University Relations for a while but they weren't ever allowed to do their job. Now you have a Pastor playing the roll he does not have the training to accomplish trashing some guy on twitter.

This is a problem across the board at Liberty right now. Its not just the AD. Its like we are so close to becoming big time we would rather ignore the problems we have to get there. Again, this isn't just the AD. Its a problem across the board.

I am sure I am diving a bit too deeply and chances are this arrest was a misunderstanding, but it was how Liberty's spokesperson responded on twitter that really bothered me.

But go ahead and use this as a tool to tear down the AD and AD only because all of LU's shortcoming clearly are Jeff Barber's doing.

I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THIS PARTICULAR CASE: but I can tell you we don't charge people with "Fraud" when it comes to substance abuse.

without knowing ANY of the particulars here, I would say that this does sound more like some sort of prescription deal or at least an issue with the actual purchase of some type of medication. Say, subject "A" buying a prescription med for or re-selling it to subject "B" who doesnt have a script for that specific med.

lots of gray areas these days with this type of thing. Also, as a general reminder: often times grading is set by statute, then at the prelim it gets dealt down to a misdemeanor. It's very common and more a procedural thing. You really don't see much movement on these things for several months, maybe more. I've requested multiple continuances on cases where you don't see a courtroom for 6 months or more, then it gets dealt down and the DA + defense counsel stand up , announce a deal, and you're out the door w/ fines/probation.

AGAIN- I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT HAPPENED HERE

Listen you come in and mistreat coaches who have their programs at the top of the BSC...are given unlimited funds to hire coaches with the highest salaries in BSC and when the programs spiral backwards it is a widespread problem... :dontgetit

PS: PHOENIX makes a good point as well. Taking it a step further- if you take half you monthly script worth of Phenobarbital or Oxy's and stick them in a zip log bag, leave the bottle at home for safekeeping, and head off to the Pocono's for vacation then get stopped... be ready to get locked up.

depending on the amount/arresting officer... those could be felony charges for possession with intent to deliver.

a huge % of the market now is prescription drugs and law enforcement is really struggling to keep up. Sometimes well intentioned people get caught up in that.

PPS: how one guy managed to turn yet another thread into "Randy Dunton was done wrong" is simply astounding. Gonna be another season where I avoid the MBB board. 6 yrs of bitterness. unreal

Thanks for the insight, Medic. Hopefully, it's a case like you laid out where it was pills without the prescribed bottle and not something MUCH worse.

This program is goin nowhere... Period. That was an embarassment tonight. Dunton was a joke too so im not supporting that talk at all. We have this whole distraction looming on top of how awful we played. Gonna take more than free tickets to get people out this year
