SCAR wrote:Manson, there are 2 sides to the recruiting process. Do you think Rowsey would have wanted to sit out a year? That would have been a tough sell. But yeah you can make room for anyone you want if we are being total real. If he was LeBron James, I'm sure they would have "made room". Rowsey is good but again, if he doesn't fit what you want to do or what you have, you move on. I know I am simplifying it now but that is basically it.
I understand what you're saying. I just hate we have to face him the next 4 years now though.

Haize the only left wing I have ever been associated with was on a tasty bird. I definitely understand Manson and your points. I wish Rowsey well and I know he is going to be an impact player in the Big South. As a coach, I just will never see recruiting as hitting or missing on players especially when/if I get the players that truly want to be in my program. I don't see it as "wow if we had signed this guy or that guy had not transferred". I press on with the kids I have and look forward.

Certainly on this message board and any other we are all free to talk about woulda, shoulda, coulda. I'm just glad folks are starting to talk hoops! I'm so ready!!!!!!

I think last year it was kinda play the cards youre dealt with JC taking a lot of shots and being the primary ballhandler. With Jesse graduating, there really wasn't anyone behind him that could have been groomed to take the point guard spot, the only other person who could have played the position was Davon, and he isnt much of a facillitator either, which you need at the PG spot. Retic gives us a facilitator who also has size to matchup with taller point and maybe 2-guards as well

I dont know how much LU recruited Rowsey, I do know, High Point & UNCA were on him the most, obviously VMI but they knew he wanted to leave town... Radford recruited him some but they rubbed the dad the wrong way.... In defense of LU's staff, not sure he would have chose LU anyway.

So stop getting mad at each other over it.

So your saying you're more of a Drummy guy!

That's the crux of the issue, I may get who I WANT but that doesn't mean its who I need. Rowsey is better then what we have IMO, and someone we need for several reasons.

I doubt that Rowsey wanted to come to Liberty and secondly, if he is SO good, he'll probably be off to a big program after his first year- it seems to be more and more common these days.

That's always the other aspect of the recruiting tango rogers...you can recruit a kid until the cows come home, but if he doesnt want to go to your school, you could invest hours and hours and thousands of dollars on expenses to recruit a player but itd all go down the drain.

You're right. We should probably save all that money and just post flyers for open try outs

Now youre just being obtuse...Im not saying to not recruit, just saying that its the price you pay when you go after a kid who may not even want to go to your school. Now we don't know the level of interest Rowsey had in coming to Liberty. We can speculate on here from dawn to dusk but really at the end of the day, the only people who know exactly how much (or how little) interest he had are the coaches and Rowsey himself.

Now you're just free basing the :koolaid
If a kid says they are not interested then you don't spend money or time on him. We spend time and treasure on a lot of kids that don't commit, is that money wasted?
And some of us do know.

They may not be but its not usually said on the record. Usually its a communication between the player and the recruiting coach and not something you have mentioned in the news except for in the case of a player mentioning he is down to "three or four schools" and mentioning those schools. Some players though, keep their recruiting very close to the vest and they may not express their level of interest (or lack thereof) throughout the process and you won't know if they are coming until they make that commitment (and not all of them are made as publicly as the guys you see on ESPNU)

Thanks...(said sarcastically of course) Anyway, Im done here. I still don't think its as cut and dried as the staff here doesn't want or like local players, but that doesnt mean that if I was the coach I would not have wanted him here. That said, the decision is made, let's get down to the business of ball to hardwood and play some basketball.

For every Andrew Rowsey or Marshall Wood though, you have Im sure plenty of other guys in this area who couldnt make an intramural squad at Averett or LC or even Randolph. That said, my guess is that with the rarity of D-I caliber talent in this area, it hasn't been a steady part of whatever the recruiting philosophy of the staff may be...that is just my guess though

Let me make my opinion on Rowsey clear prior to his college career starting. I dont think he will be a first team all conference player at the Big South Level. He was over hyped.
