That may be the case but remember, its Jeff Barber who makes that call (not us message board guys). We may feel that if next season doesnt go well, that he is gone but thats why he is the one who makes that decision and not us. We can push him to make that decision of course but at the end of the day he is the one "signing the check".

Davon's season isn't over yet as Monroe competes in the regional tournament this coming weekend at their crib in New Rochelle.

On Sunday, NJCAA Region 15 recognized the Monroe Mustangs men's basketball team's entire starting five as All-stars. Backcourt mates Drimir Ferguson and Davon Marshall were named to the Region's first team, Orlando Sanchez and Maurice Ndour to the second team, and Marco Bourgalt was given honorable mention.

"We think of each of our players as All-stars and i'm happy for them to be recognized. They richly deserve it," said Coach Jeff Brustad. "But more than any other team I've coached, this is a cohesive group that plans to succeed as a team and with the playoffs coming, we're going in with a team-first mentality."

Ferguson, Monroe's remarkable point guard who was a second-team all-star last year, is averaging 12.2 ppg and 6.3 apg. Marshall has been Monroe's leading scorer all year with 15.8 ppg largely because of his wondrous sharpshooting. He's shooting over 46% from the arc, which puts him 12th in the NJCAA Division I.

Wow, Davon gets some play in the Wall Street Journal of all publications ...

For Davon Marshall, a sophomore guard from Niagara Falls, N.Y., landing at Monroe was a deliberate decision. He had walk-on offers from a handful of smaller Division I schools, but felt he wasn't yet ready for the level of play or the rigors of college life. His time at Monroe, he now believes, has prepared him for all that college life at Liberty University figures to throw at him beginning next fall.

"Twenty years from now I'd say that [my time at Monroe has been] one of the major points in my life," he said. "It allowed me to transition, allowed me to grow up a lot."

From the opening tip in this evening's winner-take all, one game District III final, it was clear that this was to be the Monroe Mustangs men's basketball team's night. They began the game with three three-pointers from three different players and never looked back. After nine minnutes at was 26-7 and at half they had a commanding 43-18 lead on their way to a dominating 88-55 win over Hagerstown, CC (MD) to win the NJCAA Division I Men's District III basketball championship and earn their third conesecutive berth in the Narional Tournament being held March 20-24 in Hutchinson, KS.

Oh how we need that! Could anyone see Davon and JCS starting next year? If so we could be running a mini Duke offense; live and die by the 3, and when needed feed the rock to Twan.

Marshall and his Monroe College teammates wound up finishing in 5th place at Nationals. Here's a portion of the recap from the final game:

Marco Bourgault and Davon Marshall finished their Monroe careers with typically prolific shooting games. Each had 16 points on identical 4/5 three-point shooting and 2/2 from the foul line.

Marshall and Orlando Sanchez were named to the All-tournament team.

After the game it was announced that Davon Marshall concluded his Monroe career with 960 total points scored, which puts him at fourth on the All-time scoring list.

"Because of Monroe's three-semester schedule, this group of sophomores have been together from September though the middle of August for two years," Coach Brustad said. "So they have a lot of real strong bonds and like many of the Monroe players who are now playing in the NCAA, we expect they're going to be part of Monroe basketball for a long time. Because these guys were such great players and good people, too, they certainly will be ingrained our our college's sports legacy forever."

For the NJCAA National Tournament, Davon averaged 19.75 pts while shooting 41.3% from behind the arc over 4 games. That was good enough to earn him all tournament honors. In his two years at Monroe, the team went 64-9 overall and 6-2 at the national tournament after making it there both years.

Keep in mind that for the moment this is just a verbal commit. Spring signing period starts April 11. I'll feel better when we have Davon's signature on a NLI. Making a splash at nationals could have brought some schools into play who weren't interested before.

It's April 11. We should be getting an announcement on Davon signing really soon, if not today. Any delay is going to have me concerned. I'm sure his performance in the juco tournament got the attention of a lot of schools looking for a guard who can score.

Head Liberty Men's Basketball Coach Dale Layer has announced the signing of Davon Marshall (G, 5-11, 165, Niagara Falls, N.Y.) to a national letter of intent for the 2012-13 academic year. Marshall, a junior college standout, comes to the Hill City after spending two seasons at Monroe College in New Rochelle, N.Y.

Read what I typed again BJ. I was not "worrying". If he had not signed in the next couple of days I would have been concerned, and with reason. If a verbal is still comitted to come, there is no reason to wait to sign. Any delay is an indication they are at least considering other options.

Looks like a great get for us. I may be reading too much between the lines, but in the past the AD site has been known to say something along the lines of "this completes this years recruiting class" when we had signed everyone. They didn't.
