Another come from behind win. We were down by 9 in the second half and pulled it out. Nice win!

Decent crowd participation tonight
JVP is a beast on defense. He's so active. It'd be sweet if he could develop some offense.
Winthrop sucks at shooting free throws.
Gordon probably did foul on that last shot (I think he was trying to before the shot) but hey, they stepped out of bounds.

JVP gets good position on offense, too. He's not a scorer yet, tho he did make some strong moves.

That was a whole other thing. If Winthrop tied that game because the refs missed that absolutely obvious call that he stepped out of bounds, I probably would have lost it.

Pretty amazing that this team is 2-0 to start Big South play! Congratulations boys, but there is still a lot of work to do. FWIW... I'm not sold yet though.

Not sold on what? We're proving we can finish in the top half of the league. No one has claimed that we could make a run at the title.

Top half meaning top 5? We were predicted to finish 6th? All I'm saying is that we've beaten a not so good Gardner Webb team and a Winthrop team that is an all of a sudden middle of the road Big South team. So far we've had two tests and passed them both which is great. I'm just going to be waiting for the bottom to fall out at some point along the way. That's all...

Somehow your opinion loses much of it's credibility when you reveal that you don't even know who we beat Thursday night.

It was Presbyterian not GW. And both they and WU were predicted to be at the top. What makes Winthrop middle of the road all of the sudden? They've only played 2 conference games and they won the other.

Okay, have you been watching the same team I have been? We played Presbyterian, not Gardner-Webb. We've played two teams that were picked ahead of us and have beaten both of them.

Your last sentence says everything. You're not going to have much hope in our team because you expect them to suck and expect things to go wrong. That's a sad, sad way to look at your team. On the bright side though, you should get along with the VMI fans pretty well with that mindset.

My bad... I'm slightly distracted while watching both the Big XII and Big East games at once and trying to engage myself in this conversation. Really though, Presby or GW, who cares? Both games have been at home and we've defended our home court. Let's see what happens when we hit the road, or even better yet, what happens in our next game against Mason.

The game against Mason doesn't matter at all. Since when have we been at the point where we judge ourselves on non-conference games? Finishing top half in the league and making a run in the tournament is all that matters.

you making it sound like HP is terrible and were picked last. I thought they were a sleeper with Harbour who, imo is one of the best, if not the best, players in the Big South. Guess what they beat UNCA, who is also along w/ Presby, Winthrop, Coastal a top team in the conference. and they're 2-0

Gardner Webb has a KO in Moore and a really good Freshman PG in Davis. Holtman can coach. in fact they should've won the HP and William and Mary game but they got a really young team. and they played Florida State close most the game.

The league in general is better this year. Our team this year would've finished in the top 3 or 4 last year but the entire league has improved.

Mason will be a challenge, but I agree that the outcome is pretty much irrelevant. They are 5-2 and tonight they beat UNCW 80-52. The game was in Fairfax.

Presby is a very solid team who competed with K State better than we did with TTU.

Winthrop beat Wake, who is really bad for the ACC, but still, that's a nice win for their program.

We beat both of those teams, and we won them by coming back from a deficit and showing that we can finish games. If that's not good enough for you, then you need to be a Duke fan and not an LU fan, because we're not an elite program at this point. This is more than I expected from this team, and I'm very happy with where we are. We have some very promising talent. Minaya and Gordon and Brown and Sanders can all score, and our bigs are playing with hustle and strength. Coach is doing a great job getting the most out of these guys.

I disagree. The game against Mason is a measuring stick on where we're at in state. Mason is a better team than what we'll see the rest of the year in the Big South.

Who cares where we are in the state right now? We're not in the CAA. We don't claim to be in the CAA. We know we're not on the CAA level.

After Curry/McKay left we had to start almost from scratch. In a year and a half we've gotten to the point where we can beat the top half of our league at home and play very competitively against teams that are better than us. In a few years we'll hopefully be judging ourselves against the CAA teams in-state, but we're not there yet.

You need to realize where our program is and change your expectations up a little bit. We'll get there, and I honestly believe Layer can get us there, but it takes time.
