I had him in my last spot and then edited it to include Woodson instead. It was a tough call but I don't think he's better than any of the 10 I listed despite the fact that he was the only one who didn't look like a deer caught in the headlights during our NCAA game. Plus he didn't play defense.

In my list the reason for Brian Woodson was because he could lock up the best guards of the opponet. It was really tough to score on Bwood. On top of that he was a great point guard, although not always the best for team morale.

Yes! I remember that crossover! That was sick. Yeah it was in the tourney.

1-Ryan Mantlo
2-Larry Blair
3-Dwight Brewington
4-Gabe Martin
5-Alex McLean

Coach- Dunton -
Best = one who got us a ring bottomline.

Bench:
Teejay Bannister
Chris Caldwell
David Dees
Leo Lightbourne
Anthony Smith

Take the best of Jesse Sanders and Kyle Ohman and you have Ryan Mantlo.

For those of you who didn't have the pleasure of seeing Gabe, we really need to get some FSN clips. When i worked at Proto ( the year we won the BSC ) we put together a sweet highlight video with a lot of Gabe's dunks which was played pregame...that i would like to see again.

Eh, Mantlo really regressed his senior year. He really didn't shoot well. Heck I don't even think he started that year.

I changed my mind on coach though. I was thinking of who I would want coaching in a game, but this isn't about putting together a team that would beat all other teams. It's about the best/most accomplished players of that decade. So it would have to be Dunton. You could make a case for BeTray though. Layer is a tough sell since it's his first year and if you said Hankinson, you most likely died in 2002 and didn't get to see the rest of the decade.

I also think people forget, on the big stage in the tourney Dees was the one guy who showed up vs. Saint Joes

Dees - who didn't start

Yes I saw him play. And he was good, don't get me wrong. But when you compare his career to others, he just isn't as good. Look at his numbers for the Ragin Cajuns... He had a great junior year and led the team in scoring, but then his senior year, he didn't play well. He only averaged 7.9 points that season, good for forth on a pretty bad team. And here at Liberty, he did some great things, but I just don't think you can put him in the top ten best basketball players to come through Liberty in this decade.

Teejay was the best true point guard this decade at LU, even though he only played one season. He set all kinds of records with assists. Larry Blair was the best scorer this decade for LU. Anthony Smith was just a great all around player for us. Gabe Martin was a monster. Alex was the best big man this decade, if for nothing else, his rebounding. Seth is the best shooter to come to LU ever, probably... Dwight might have been one of the best athletes to come to LU. (But I can understand arguing that he shouldn't be on the list). Jesse is just a great leader and his grit puts him above Dees in my opinion (not to mention his triple double is only the second one ever in LU basketball history), Chris Caldwell has the numbers behind him. And BJ was great here at LU and is tearing it up right now at Murray State. If he was about 6'5" he'd be going to the league.

A few guys I left off my list...
Jason Sarchet
Leo Lightborne
Kyle Ohman

(All could be argued to be better than Dees, and have even have better numbers in some categories)

I'm not being a Dees hater here, I'm just saying, he's a kid that didn't live up to his expectations from his freshamn year...

I think I remember an article about Dees basically being put on the shelf his senior year in favor of getting younger players experience for the future. Sucks to go out that way.

Also, there is no way on earth Ohman belongs near this list.

He had a great freshman year. Sophomore he didn't do so great. He had a junior year at Louisiana-Lafeyette that was really good. Then his senior year he disappeared. Its like for every good year he had, he had a year where he disappeared...

Yeah, that sucks.

I loved Dees. I thought he was great. But looking back on it, I just don't think he is in our top ten. That's all I'm saying...

That's what happened with him.

I just can't see leaving Dees off of this list. He would've averaged at least 15 a game for his career had he stayed four years, if not more.

And as a freshman.

This kid was one of the best fresh/sophs (offensively) to ever play here. He could do it all, shoot the 3, drive, play with his back to the basket, etc.

I looked up his numbers:
42% from the field
35.74% from 3
79% FTs
13ppg
3.5 rpg

And that's play alongside the likes of LB and Gabe.

yeah, I understand what you are saying. But saying, that kid would have been great if he had stayed just doesn't put him in the top ten for me!

Im sorry if Sanders and Ohman are considered on yall's list then Dees should easily be on there. The fact that Ohman is actually on any of yall's lists baffles me. David Dees is by FAR, better than those two players

He's one of our top 20 scorers of all time, he's shown great leadership, has gone from walk on to best player on the team. I think that deserves it over some of these 1 and done's.

I have him on the list because of what he did do at LU, not what he could have done.

CHL, you keep saying Dees had a good freshman year, but not so good soph year. He averaged 10.5 points per game his freshman year and 16.2 ppg his senior year.

I think he was the #2 rated HS prospect coming out of Ohio that year. #2 to Lebron

He's one of the few 1000 point scorers in this decade, and it's in three years, not four and never as the #1 guy until this year. If you put aside personal feelings about him and look at his stats and the things he's done on the court, he can easily be justified as a Top 10 player.

He scored a 1000 points but while he was here I think the talent of LU and the Big South in general had gone down.
