In the same article he mentions that Seth Curry scored 12 points in each of the US under 19 teams first 2 games (no word on how many shots he took).

Layer clearly has a relationship with Baird. It's not a cooincidence that he has offers from LU, Marquette and CSU.

Goodman is good as gold in this instance.

This is a major coup for Coach Layer and his staff!

These two kids arriving from Texas next year are going to have a major impact on the program for years to come. The fall early signing period can't get here soon enough.

from rivals. It was posted on the tigers mb

Also, another 3-star small forward, Stephen Baird out of San Antonio appears to have gotten a LSU offer, along with offers from a slew of other schools, including Kentucky, Texas, USC, Cal and others. At 6-7, 190 ish, Stephen compares favorably to another LA LSU recruit high on LSU's list, Matt Derenbecker. With that many schools in the game, no telling how high Baird is about LSU but Trent has made his fair share of TX offers

So the may or may not be visiting is the concrete proof that there was some interest. My apologies, I missed that.

Yeah, he just didnt want to break news on here....he'll be here...
Alrighty. Well, here's the deal. This kid signs with ANY mid major and I'll eat crow. He signs with the big boys...well, then my point has been made, again.
Well, he won't be able to sign til November, but I don't think it's too early to say................................

Bon appetit!

This commitment is rock solid...has been for quite a while...LU was the leader in the recruiting process and Stephen wanted to get all the schools off his back...so he ended it by committing.

He must have really enjoyed his visit....

I understand our coaches couldn't participate in his visit because he came during a recruiting dead period. I wonder who the "host with the most" was who showed him around?

Or, to reference an even closer holiday, we should have a couple of extra reasons to give thanks on the 26th.

Calm is fine manson, but if that means being pessimistic/negative, no thank you. JC Sanders is coming. It's a lead pipe lock. There is no reason Baird shouldn't be the first of many recruits of that stature or higher to come as well. They have always been out there, looking for a place like LU. We just needed coaches who truly believe and know how to communicate that LU and it's basketball program have something unique to offer an elite christian student-athlete.

When it comes to pick-and-pop players, Stephen Baird is one of the best around. Standing 6-foot-8 and possessing dependable range from the perimeter, Baird has shown college recruiters his ability to set picks and pop out for long jumpers since the start of his high school career.

Baird, however, decided to end his college search late Thursday evening, verbally committing to Big South Conference school Liberty. The TABC All-Region IV selection chose the small Virginia university over several other larger programs, including Utah and Kentucky.

"He was really happy [Thursday]," said Mike Baird, Stephen's father. "This whole process has been going on since the eighth grade. He bounced back and forth on wanting to go to a big school or a smaller school, and he finally decided to go to a school where he can make a big impact."

Stephen Baird
Baird is expected to join 6-0 scoring machine John-Caleb Sanders at Liberty next season. Sanders' older brother, Jesse, is a 6-3 sophomore for the Flames. All verbal commitments are nonbinding, and the first day a Class of 2010 basketball recruit can sign is Nov. 11.

Baird, a hybrid forward of sorts, posed problems for teams throughout last season. He made the larger opposing players come out and defend him beyond 15 feet, which freed the lane for guards to penetrate. Baird, a consistent double-double contributor for Madison, received addiional offers from Texas A&M, Marquette, Penn State and Colorado State.

"We visited Liberty after a tournament in North Carolina, and he felt like he fit in real well with the atmosphere," Mike Baird said. "He liked the fact that it was a Christian school, for one thing, and they had really neat facilities and setups.

"One of the biggest selling points is that they have a relatively new law school. That's one thing he is really interested in."

Liberty, in addition to the new law program, has a new head coach in Dale Layer after Ritchie McKay resigned in April. The Flames finished 23-12 last season, earning only the program's fifth 20-win season and first since 1997. Liberty achieved that while being the fourth-youngest team in the nation, fielding six true freshmen, one redshirt freshman and only one senior.

Anyone want to make a wager that his number of *'s drop on rivals and scout next time since he signed with us. Tends to happen quite a bit when a higher ranked recruit commits or verbals to a quote "small" school

I'm not saying to be pessimistic, but let's not put the cart before the horse. From Nov 09 to Nov 10 is a long time to be excited and talk about these guys KNOWING they will be here.

And I do agree that if there ever was a verbal that I felt solid with it's JC's.
