we've done well so far denying passes in to big men. if we can continue that we should be golden

The biggest problem is going to be Koshwal at 6'10, 255. I'd imagine we'll play a lot of 1-3-1, instead of the 2-3, and Ohman will draw the primary responsbility of fronting him.

They may not be great shooters but the shots will be there, IMO, out of the zone. Hopefully we won't get shy and pack in too tight. You give teams enough shots and eventually they'll start hitting them.

I’d much rather have guys who are 25 – 30% 3 pt shooters shooting all day, than 58 – 60% fg shooting big men killing us inside all day.

An interesting stat is that as many 3s as we shoot, our opponents have shot more. We have done an excellent job denying inside looks with our zone, and for the most part have been active enough with it to make them shoot over a hand from the perimeter.

On the RPI thread, they are predicting a loss for us. Have we ever played DePaul before?

The kenpom predictions aren't based on some person sitting down and predicting a win or a loss. It's based on his rankings that take into consideration your offensive and defensive efficiency and other stats and such. His stats give LU a 41% chance to win, and calls for a close game regardless of who wins.

This preview from the DePaul Scout site includes a nice rundown on the Flames (and Seth in particular) and even links FlameFans.

The gym where they are playing in Vegas is very odd, and it is definitely meant to be more of a Vegas-style concert place than a gym...WVU played in a Vegas tourney there earlier this year and it looked pretty weird on tv.

There is a live audio link on the SID site, which would indicate it will be on WRVL. Apparently Depaul is not broadcasting it, although that seems pretty strange.

In the "small world" category, I checked out the Depaul coaching staff and discovered that former VMI guard and Roanoke native Ramon Williams is an assistant there. His twin brother Damon is a referee, and works a lot of Big South games, including our game last night against Anderson.

Just to answer the earlier question about Liberty against the Big East, no the Flames have never beaten a team from that conference. 0-4. Three of the losses to Seton Hall, one to Providence.

By the way, WeAreDepaul.com is the Scout site I mentioned earloier and they reportedly get the most traffic of any of the Blue Demon boards. Since they gave us some love I thought I'd return the favor.

Is it bad that I know exactly who Damon is when you just mention his name?

I've spent way too much time learning about the refs we have.

Back in their day, Super, the Williams twins were as famous on VMI's campus as the Frazee triplets are on ours.

And I'm loving this quote:
Like the Mannings in football, the Currys are becoming the first family of college basketball.

NewsAdvance wrote:Flames forcing foes to play small ball

It first happened Nov. 25 at Virginia’s John Paul Jones Arena. Liberty coach Ritchie McKay looked toward the Cavaliers’ bench, noticing that every one of Virginia’s big men was seated there.

Tunji Soroye and John Brandenburg never saw the floor. Jerome Meyinsse played five minutes. Solomon Tat was in for less than a minute. The only bigs who played that night were Mike Scott and Jamil Tucker, both of whom are athletic enough to defend a guard if needed.

The trend repeated itself in later games. Gardner-Webb center Auryn MacMillan played just 11 minutes. Clemson left its taller players on the bench. As Liberty prepares for tonight’s game against DePaul, another team featuring two 6-foot-10 starters, it’s become clear that teams are being forced to adapt to Liberty’s small-ball style.

if we keep those two giants on the bench we should beat them rather easily, but if they are able to somehow play them successfully against us it could be a tough night

I hope they play them. I really want to see how we do against some size when the opposing coach pushes the issue.
