I know I don't post that often but wanted to offer this.

I am happy for both Seth Curry and Ritchie McKay. Seth Curry has incredible talent and is going to be a great NBA player, and if the opportunity comes along to progress to a better conference, go for it!

With Coach McKay. He turned around a program that had single digit wins not long ago into a team that had 23 wins this year. We have had some impressive wins beating Virginia, George Mason and hanging with Clemson for 35+ minutes.

Jeff Barber and Kevin Keys have turned around a whole athletic department and are taking it to the next level. We have had increased giving to the athletic department, a great television deal with MASN, beautiful new athletic facilities and improvments. Does it hurt that a great player and a great coach are leaving? Yes, but it will be OK. There may be some bumps in the road but I have a feeling that our best days are yet to come.

I just talked to Coach McKay and I ask folks to slow down painting him as a villain. I'll try and get a new thread up shortly with Coach McKay's perspective.

Tell Him to just keep running, we'll be fine, and to call Chris.

December 1, 2008 in convocation Ritchie says, "Ephesians 5:15 says, "be careful how you life your life, not as unwise, but as wise making the most of every opportunity because the days are evil" – this is my 14th year as a head coach double this place that was the average attendance @ New Mexico and all that stuff is neat when you’re part of a school and there is a lot of attention and praise when successful, but when the bible says make the most of opportunities... the Lord has blessed me by making me part of liberty university not only b/c we have great leaders… but because I get a chance to see you every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and seeing the way you worship… it’s added years to my life. We get to be a part of something that’s bigger than ourselves. I hope you feel that way about Liberty, too. The enemy will get you discouraged and doubting that this place is not for you… I ask you to speak against that – this is really, really, really a unique place and after being at secular universities, there’s really no place like Liberty." - Roundabout version of what was stated.

I hope he finds this Christian adrenaline @ UVa, haha.

I agree that Ritchie isn't much to lose. Quite frankly, I could careless. But a man of God is true to his word... I'm not seeing that with McKay. Make sure one of you lets Ritchie know that his words are crap to the student body. He was a coach who didn't start coaching til it was too late... UVA will fit him well, along with that nice sign on bonus. I hope he tithes his 10%.

It's sad, but coaching is a revolving door. Look at what happened to Memphis.

I don't think anyone has a problem with RMK and Curry leaving, its the fact that they said Liberty was great and I don't want to go, them turn around and leave. They contradicted themselves and that's what bothers me.

From Chris Lang's March 28th N&A story:
As the dust began to settle from Tuesday’s bombshell announcement that Seth Curry had decided to transfer after one season at Liberty, Flames coach Ritchie McKay was surprisingly upbeat.
Hmmm... surprisingly upbeat? What did he know and when?

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Tony Bennett says he plans to rebuild the men's basketball program at Virginia around two basic principles: passion and integrity.

Barber on McKay coming to LU: "he is a man of superior character who will build our program with class and integrity.”

I guess class wasn't good enough for Ritchie -- hope the passion at Liberty will add years to his life, too.

"I can't tell you how privileged and excited I am to join the Liberty family," stated McKay. "My wife, Julie, and I were blown away by the leadership and atmosphere we experienced during our time in Lynchburg. I feel like it is a perfect fit for me not only to compete for championships but to be a part of a university mission that I so strongly believe in."

Did he really mean... "I feel like it is a perfect fit for me to fix some problems and get noticed..." just like Mr. Curry.

I'm sure he has matured a lot since then, but I remember talking to him and playing against him in intramurals and I was less than impressed with his intelligence then. I wouldn't mind seeing him as an assistant but I'm not sure he would be a good head coach (of course I know nothing about him now).
Are you serious? Based on when he was in college and how he acted playing in the student center... this guy
One time I saw you eat too much at Ham's. Ill bet youre really fat.
Are you guys serious about hiring him? I guess Liberty has fallen on hard times. An assistant from VMI?

I'll go on record to predict that Jason Allison NEVER wins as much as a Big South championship as a head coach. I'll go further and say that he will never win a championship in a conference that has an automatic bid to the NCAA tourney.

McKay just lost 60% of his starting team with very little in reserve. The immediate future was not very bright for the LU program or McKay. Other than being extremely disingenuous in words and actions , I can find nothing wrong with what he did. He is looking out for himself and his family and he took advantage of a good situation. I just witnessed Lundy, winning record, good returning team, hard worker, get totally reamed at High Point and the only people who suffered were the coach, his assistants, and their respective families. So, I think that its far better for McKay to help himself and his family before some AD or University President decide that the grass is greener and help him out, " the door".

He lost 40% of his starting team, not 60%. Pay attention.

Just like Curry, this is a cop-out and a joke. Why do these people sign contracts and commitment letters, then just break them. Sure UVA will buy out the contract, but where's the integrity of these men? Also weird that the flames 2 best players decided to move on, then goes the coach.... maybe he knew he was leaving for more money and told them so they wouldn't be stuck here with a joke of a coach!!

At the end of the year Austin Smith was starting in place of Floyd. Brolin was getting about 20 minutes a game, and was not playing well at all.

Ah...I see from the editing of the "McKay Departure" thread that the LU censors are at it again. Didn't know their reach extended to this site.
