Who says High Point rejected him? Maybe they just didn't put enough cash on the table?

They did hire Bart Lundy, guys.

They might just be the Blazers taking Sam Bowie... and we could be, well, ya know.

I'm right with you on having a Liberty alum on the coaching staff tshirtman, but I really don't think there is anyone out there who is ready to be the head man. Stephon Leary would probably be the closest.

I'm gunna say it til people get sick of reading it.................... HIRE JUICE! I know most new coaches like to "clean house" and bring in their own people, but LU is unique IMHO, and I agree that there is a real benefit to having someone the players can go to who has been through the LU student experience. I think JB could tell applicants that putting at least 1 LU alum on staff is a requirement, explain why, and give them a list. If they couldn't deal with that, I'm not sure we want them here.

ToTheLeft,

I was just curious about what you know regarding High Point hiring Lundy?

I guess I should have clarified in this post, although I had said it in others. I want Julius as an assistant, not head coach. Thus the explaination about making the hiring of an alum assistant a requirement for whoever they hire for HC.

I'm sorry but if Layer is the hire then I dont think this program is in much better shape that it was 2 years ago. I for one, and the three guys I usually go to the games with think this is a mistake. That record speaks for itself. As far as the guy from Rice, I mean can we not atleast try for something better than these guys. Records are there for a reason, Insanity is said to be doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. The Rice coach and Layer coach have a pretty solid sample size there to judge from. Why would you expect anything different from them this time

I have confidence in Barber thinking a bit more outside the box than the list of people that have been established in this chat. Sometimes I feel like we set our expectations tooo low in the program. If it ends up that these are the best candidates for the job then I wouldn't feel this way, but I sincerely hope and believe that Barber is turning over a lot of stones that haven't been mentioned in this thread.

Panfan,

Can you find some time between all your landscaping to please explain what happened with Ryan Odom and High Point? Did he pass on HP or did HP pass on him?

My understanding 2 years ago was that our hope was to land a top assistant from a major conference (ACC, SEC, etc.), but when McKay became available--a former DI head coach with a strong Christian background--we chose him instead of going with a top assistant, which made perfect sense at the time.

The question now is, has the bar been raised 2 years later, or are we still trying to land a top assistant from a major conference as our head coach? Layer would fit both categories (former head coach & assistant at a major conference) and Wilson was obviously a head coach at Rice.

I, for one, can hardly wait until JB officially releases some names of coaches coming on campus soon for formal interviews.

What makes you think he'll even do that?

Isn't that what happened 2 years ago, when two candidates visited campus and attended chapel? Didn't names of both coaches appear in the local paper before the official hire? Maybe it wasn't "officially announced", but most of us knew when prospective coaches were on campus for interviews.

Lang, we're waiting for your breaking news to hit the fishwrap soon.

You mean like the breaking news when the N&A leaked the WRONG name when Hank got the job?

Why are you guys so high on Layer? His track record is awful. You cannot gloss over a 31-71 conference record.

Let the record show that I am not high on Layer!! Again, we need to BUILD why not bring someone in here to BUILD?? IMO None of the guys mentioned would be around long enough to build. I heard this argument the other day and liked it. We have bought this nice piece of land. Great views, a little off the beaten track but the neighbors or nice. We have two options, dig a basement, and build a nice house from the ground up. Or we can buy a manufactured home. It looks good in the brochures. Def. nicer than the neighbor's houses. When the day comes it looks GREAT. Just what we wanted, but here comes the first big thunderstorm of the year and in gets knocked over. Since we have no where to live, we move a Single Wide onto the property until we can get another REALLY NICE house tocome in. ANd sure enough here it comes. But again here comes another storm and knocks THIS one down. So at what point to you say to yourself, "Maybe I should just build a house here instead of having one brought in?"
Just a thought..........

I am not sure how high we can go right now as far as getting someone in here that will accept the offer. I mean how much money are we throwing around to get this person and will this person want to be a coach for a team in one of the worst basketball conferences in the country. We have to get someone who believes in the LU vision and willing to stick around at least 5 years. Not sure if Layer or the Rice guy are the answers. Might be taking a risk on getting someone who is just "status quo" but then again if we have the resources and the recruiting budget advantage over everyone else in the BSC then maybe these guys could be the coach that takes us to that next level.

HMO, what is Odam's faith background? Nothing was mentioned about it on the website.

And, Fumble, I don't think Lang would make that mistake, though it was pretty funny at the time.

Lang is pretty cautious about things like that. He'd rather get it right than get it first.

Breaking news? Same exact names we've been talking about. He could have done his research on ff for that.

Umm, someone already posted Lang's link at 1:51 on Thursday. I think that may be why the discussion has centered around some of those names.

Thank you Mom. The boys are being ungrateful and rude, you need to put them in their place. :)

Sly mentioned Willis Wilson before that, and Soucie was a given. I think HMO posted that Layer was interested in coming back. I hadn't read Lang's blog til now, but it is dated Friday.

Remember most of us didn't think RMK would come all the way out here and coach in the BSC with his background, but JB got him. I'm not giving up on Pannell yet.

McKay pursued us last time around. We didn't pursue him.

Forgive me for thinking that none of the three listed will be coaching for us next year.
