I'm very happy with the win, and I think most on the board are. Chris Lang said nice things about it, and he's a pro writer - should carry some weight, since we can assume that he is neither a hater nor a kool aid drinker. I think that it's too bad that even an obvious positive is turned into a forum on RD, and I'm sure that, for some, this will not change as long as he is in the position. A lot of the guys are
letting their theology determine their interpretation, which is to say that point #1 is that Dunton is a lousy coach, and everything that happens beyond that must fit into that mold. They've stated as much.
LUreal is a counterbalance, as I see it. I wish we'd all leave it alone and enjoy the season. Naturally it is frustrating to have a big win, and still see the posts that follow that win. The season is unfolding before us. Why don't we enjoy the wins, lament the losses, and see what the end result is? I think everybody should own a gun, and then exercise extreme discretion in using it.

Devils advocate, here. Perhaps Barber does not want to spend time promoting a team coached by a guy he didn't hire? A guy in his "contract year?" A guy who if things cave in, who may not even be back?

I see you edited your post.

As for your question: He didn't hire Rocco.

grm: I appreciate you seeing things as they are, in terms of what I do. You will never see me root for Liberty. You will never see me root against Liberty. I'm there to report what's going on, to try to interpret what happens on the floor and lend greater meanings to things.

Perfect example, the second after I ripped Russell Monroe for not going aggressively for a rebound, he comes up with a dunk that changes the game.

FWIW, I do have a few impressions of the team in the few games I've seen:

McLean: This kid is a stud. I love the passion he plays with and how aggressively he defends against players bigger than him.

Jenkins: I'll admit, I thought he was really underwhelming in the Blue-White scrimmage. But man, last night, he made some plays that freshmen shouldn't make. He had a take that was just sick, a sweet little drive which he finished with a reverse with his off-hand. He's got poise.

Holland: The kid was hurt all of last year, so I was never able to form an impression. But man, I like his court vision. I like his scrappiness on defense and I like his patience on offense. He doesn't force things and doesn't make mistakes.

Anthony Smith: Play of the game last night, bar none was this: LU's up 44-38, and Smith has two options with the shot clock running down. He can either force a terrible 3-pointer or find an open teammate for a shot. A kid with no maturity will force the three. Anthony looks hard, finds Damien Hubbard, and Damien drains a mid-range baseline jumper with 1 second left on the shot clock for a big basket. Big time play right there.

This team has potential and weapons. The next few weeks should be fun to watch.

And do play Devil's advocate along with AG Vader: Your theory also holds true on the other side. Folks like you and lureal feel that Dunton is a great coach (maybe bordering on Messiah) and everything that happens beyond that must fit into that mold. It also goes with views of "haters". AGAIN Ipoint out that I said GOOD things, yet I say the defense was poor and everything else is forgotten. I mean heck, if I said any thing else nice I am sure RICh would have thrown me out of the He-Man-Dunton Haters club and then where would I be?? The Wylers Camp?? Crystal Light Cathedral?

You're right. How could I be so dumb (rhetorical, you don't have to answer). OK. The entire meaning and intent of my devil's advocate question makes no sense.

Funniest line of the weekend.

You (and the rest of your comrades) need to run with that one. I bet SJ (even though he isn't one), could COOK you up a good logo for your signatures.

I honestly have no idea who this person is... but I lost all respect for whoever it is after reading this post. Regardless of what your opinion is of a basketball team... that kind of comment is disgraceful.

I'll leave the "Messiah" reference in the "sarcasm by overstatment" catagory and move on. Having said that, let me say that I appreciate what you are saying, and I admit that I will go to my grave believing Randy is a great coach. However, if the administration were to make a change, I would not hate the next guy, but would live with it and support the program. I don't believe that the position of some of the haters is such, and they have also questioned Randy's integrity on several occasions. I don't like that. Your comments on the defense don't seem to match the tone of Chris' post, but I am not especially offended at them. I do believe that your posts have been palatable, with the possible exception of those containing condescending comments to some of whom you appear to have the upper hand on, educationally. Those too may have been all in fun, and there's no sense in being ridiculously sensitive anyway. Perhaps the post that suggested a "I Hate Dunton" thread (or something akin to that) was the best idea of all. Then here, we could confine criticism to "civil criticism" such as your comments on the defense. I believe we could peacefully co-exist under such conditions. I'd be willing to sign on to that, and I'd probably stay away from the thread, but when I feel it becomes unreasonable here, it makes me feel that vitriol demands a vitriolic response. I've done it, but I'm pretty sure that there is a better solution. Some guys have opted for non-participation, feeling like they should "Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him." (Pro 26:4) Why don't you use some of your influence to moderate things a bit - you know, formulate a peace treaty, and then see who will sign on to it? I would.

Sincerely - grm

If you knew anything about history, especially after citing a Bible verse, peace treaties never solve anything, nor do they equate to peace. i figured a pastor would at least say as much. It is ironic how haize is always bashed for his funny remarks. grm, I think you need to go back and look in the mirror and think about how much you hate Haize and try to come to a peace about it.

If it weren't dickens, I would be mistified at how anyone could get me hating Haize out of my post. I don't. I have continually attempted to moderate the animosity that is on this site, but dickens wants no part of it. I think this fighting is ridiculous. And what's wrong with trying to have peace one with another? Romans 14:19 "Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another." dickens also seems enamored with citing my calling, and applying it to anything and everything, "I figured a pastor would...." and on from there. Romans 12:18 ought to be one of our guides "If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men." Since God put the qualifying phrase in there, maybe He's indicating that it is not always possible. I'm pretty sure dickens just wants trouble, but that's his choice not mine. I was attempting some positive dialogue with Haize, and I believe that to be a real possiblility. The rest of it speaks for itself (historically speaking).
