I asked Kallander about the protected opponents issue back at media day and he said there were no plans for something like that to be in place. I would think, though, that at the very least you would play your travel partner twice. Then again, with 11 teams, not everyone will have a travel partner. Either Radford or Liberty will be without one, if I had to guess. WU-PC; HPU-Campbell; GWU-Asheville; CCU-CSU all make sense. VMI-LU and VMI-RU make sense too.

From what I hear our favorite cheerleader (KK) is moving away from travel partners in the initial draft '11-'12 BSC schedule that was circulated recently.. KK already went against the way that AD's/coaches voted in wanting to allow all BSC teams to participate in the BSC tournament with 10/11 teams- It is obvious KK is going to do things the way he wants, from the initial draft I'm hearing about NO ONE will be happy with next years schedule except Coastal, Winthrop, or Liberty- I mean KK's not even hiding the fact that the schedule is weighted with travel advantages for those schools in the draft version- it's pretty clear who he wants to see hosting the tourney next year if that goes through unchanged. I know you all do not know what I'm referring to just yet, but if the schedule goes through- just remember this post.

If KK comes out with 2 games against some, 1 for others, I wouldn't mind if we don't play Coastal, Winthrop, or Chuck South twice :D

Just to correct the math here with 11 teams in a conference means you only play 10 because you don't schedule yourself. Therefore, you could play 8 teams home and away and there are only 2 teams you would only play once.

Ok can I get some clarity on who host the BS tourney games. My understanding was that the 1st round games are hosted by the top 4 seeds. Then everything else is played at the top seed's place (even if they are eliminated). However this isn't what espn said...
There is drama in Conway, S.C., with Coastal Carolina. Kierre Greenwood is done for the season with a knee injury, and leading scorer Desmond Holloway has been declared academically ineligible pending an investigation by the NCAA. The Chanticleers asked for reinstatement, but what if he is determined to have played as an ineligible player? What if the NCAA rules quickly and determines he is not eligible? What happens then? The Big South tournament sites are based on the highest remaining seed, and the No. 1 seed hosts the semifinals. The championship game is at the best surviving seed. The No. 2 seed Liberty Flames are watching this story closely.

I don't believe the top seed has ever been eliminated before the finals, however given Coastals recent issues it looks like a possibility this year. Could we end up hosting the championship game (without the NCAA even needing to make a ruling)?

Interesting. It just seems wrong to think there could be a year where we play CCU only once or you guys playing RU only once.

And if king is right about no travel partners, it sounds like coming up with the schedule will be a headache/cluster****, especially trying to make it fair for all schools.

Another look at the Coastal situation: http://www.thesunnews.com/2011/02/22/19 ... w-way.html
Sophomore point guard Kierre Greenwood is done for the season with a torn ACL in his left knee, and it remains unknown if junior guard Desmond Holloway and his 18.5 points and 6.9 rebounds per game will return after he was suspended indefinitely last week for an undisclosed eligibility issue.

CCU athletic director Hunter Yurachek confirmed through associate athletic director Mike Cawood that a request for reinstatement on behalf of Holloway was sent to the NCAA last Friday and that there has been no change in the player's status.

Requests for comment or confirmation from the NCAA were directed to spokesperson Stacey Osburn, who was out of the office and unable to respond to messages Monday.

Thanks....some day I will learn basic addition and subtraction.

So KK does NOT want all 11 teams in the conference tourney? If not, then how many? Only 8 would leave three teams on the outside looking in.

How empty would tiny Kimbel be if Coastal somehow lost to 8 seed G-W/HPU in round one and be absent when the semi round is played?

I think with 11 teams you would need to have all 11 participate. Easy solution would be that the top 5 get a bye.

And let's hope GW can pull off the upset again :D Although it happened once, and nearly happened twice, I wouldn't be surprised.

Next year there will only be 10 eligible teams for the tourney as PC is still not eligible.

When we get all 11 eligible they need to all participate in the tourney.

Teams 1-5 would get an opening round bye.

6 would play 11 with the winner moving on to play 3. Game could be played @3.*

7 would play 10 with the winner moving on to play 2. Game could be played @2.*

8 would play 9 with the winner moving on to play 1. Game could be played @1.*

4 and 5 would play each other after their opening round bye.

First round could be played on Monday night.

The rest of the tourney would go like it is now.

Each of the opening rounds could be played on the home court of seeds 1-3. This would make it a neutral court and no travel required to play 24 hours later in the same gym.

As I understand KK went away from the 24-3 vote from the AD's/Coaches/SIDs of the currently eligible 9 BSC schools to allow all 9 teams to participate in the tourney the last couple years- why wouldn't you want every school to be able to have a shot?

You can run a tourney with any amount of teams- it really isn't that hard to Google any bracket combination you want & decide on the logistics of a location.. I'm sure they could easily have managed a 8/9 game between RU/GW at GW a day or 2 before the opening round with the winning team driving down to SC to face Coastal.. this isn't rocket surgery as they say! :dontgetit

Bottom line is that when you have a guy who's only collegiate athletic experience was as a male cheerleader- then this is what you get! Goooooo Big South!!
:cheerleader

It will be interesting to see what transpires schedule wise- but continuing to do things against the votes of your constituent members doesn't seem healthy for any commish's tenure..

PC is still not eligible next year? I thought the purpose of them redshirting all those kids last year was solely to compete next year? :dontgetit

One alternative in your tourney scenario could be go to a Monday, Wednesday, Friday format, with the final on Sunday afternoon. The ladies final is on Sunday, so it shouldn't be an issue.

ESPN tells us when our championship game is. So, it is an issue.

And PC was supposed to be eligible this year but they didn't cross all the T's and dot all the I's so they have at least one more year.

PC did not come through with all of the necessary paperwork in a timely manner G-Webb 1994. It was a major faux pas by their athletic department and was devestating to the team. Miller, Coleman and company will not get the chance to compete for an NCAA bid before they graduate. They deserve huge props for not going ballistic over this.

Usually the Women's tourney is a week after the men's. I think we're like the only conference to do that.

Yeah, I had completely forgotten about that....Coleman getting hurt too really sucked for him.

You just can't trust those darned Calvinists I tell ya....

FYI...we are hanging with CSU in a seesaw game so far...but we are piling up fouls, 9 for GW, 3 for CSU...Moore on the bench with 3.

Coastal is losing to UNCA right now 37 to 35.

I'll be honest, CSU is a team I don't get. They have much potential, but they never seem to play up to it.

Coastal and Asheville are tied at 58 with 90 seconds left. If Coastal loses, I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but if we had shown effort to beat VMI we'd be having a different conversation....

Asheville wins 61 to 58, maybe on a last second shot? Anyways, let the second guessing begin.

.....and Coastal did just lose 61-58. Dickey stole, at half-court, an inbound pass by Coastal with less than 3 seconds to go and nailed a three-pointer.
