I turned on to the UVa station at the end of the game and they were pretty much in shock. Not the first time this has happened. I remember whem LU beat UVa a few years back and they were the first in state opponent that had beat UVa at home in 30 yrs. We had a bad team but UVa was awful. Curry and the gang are going to be fun to watch. One thing the UVa announced mentioned that as shocking as that was Liberty had 3 Fr, 1 walkon & 1 Sr on the floor with a minute to go.

With all due respect to our own Chris Lang, Roanoke's Doug Doughty ALSO has a great article about the game, with many good one liners:
The only consolation for Virginia in an 86-82 loss to Liberty on Tuesday is that the Cavaliers don't have UNC-Asheville on their schedule.

The Flames, 28-point losers to UNC-A in their only previous Division I outing, became the first Big South team to beat Virginia in 17 games, dating back to 1998.

Liberty did the honors that year, 69-64, in a game that many viewed as the beginning of the end for former UVa coach Jeff Jones...

Liberty (2-1) dared to come out in a five-guard lineup and the Cavaliers (3-1) had no answer.

I did not take the time to look at all the previous posts for several reasons like I have a life!!! (Yes that was directed at YOU FUMBLE!!) But I am thinking the Get Rid of RMK club are rather silent. This was a really big win even though UVa is down again. However, I would like to say I am now on the FIRE RMK band wagon now. And let me just say it is not SOLEY b/c of the ugly uniforms, although that does play a role. My reason is very simple: Look what happened the last time we beat UVA in basketball??? Love it or hate it there was a lot of drama and it was drawn out for about 8 years and some say still going on. Why would we want to go through that again?? Isn't it obvious that the FIRST question any coach should be asked in interviewing for this job is "Will you be able to beat UVa"? If that answer is Yes, I am sure we have other qualified candidates. Let's just hope, for the sake of the community, LU and this board that at some point in the near future RMK does NOT lead the team to the NCAA. Look what happened to the last two coaches who had the galll to do THAT!! Come to think of it that should probably be the SECOND question asked in any interview.
I mean congrats to the team and the coaching staff for the win, but in the end it will only lead to their demise. Not to mention Leito's (Are you listening Jeff Jones???)

The loss snapped Virginia’s 36-game November home winning streak (Dates back to 1994)
The loss snapped Virginia’s 16-game winning streak against Big South opponents (Dating back to 1998)
The loss snapped Virginia’s 15-game winning streak against non-conference in-state opponents (Dating back to 2002)
Kyle Ohman’s 17 first half points tied a JPJA opponent record (Hansbrough is one of them)
Last time 3 players scored 20 against UVA: Juan Dixon (23), Chris Wilcox (21), and Lonny Baxter (20), at Maryland (3/3/02)

Some interesting stuff I found. I didn't see it on here so I figured I would post it. Virginia is having a really down year, but this is still a great win over an ACC opponent.
All the ushers at UVA and their fans were really hospitable. It was a nice venue. I was on the elevator though with a guy who was pretty ticked. He kept saying "(Liberty) shouldn't have even been in this game".

The one thing I was extremely proud of was that there were points in this game where you felt the momentum dissipate a bit and you almost expected the universe to realign and Virginia to pull off a big run, but it never happened. Liberty stayed focused and it seemed like they did everything right when the game was on the line. Great job tonight guys!

I am starting to despise statistics, espn has just made them ridiculous.

But this was a fun game to watch. Those family pack tickets turned out to be an amazing deal. So what if we had to sit all the way at the top, the tickets paid for themselves with the free food.

Granted with our lack of size the zone was a necessity, but they really need to work on the speed within the zone, it left a lot of open jumpers for uva. But honestly, this game had no defense on either end of the floor. Although some of our passing was a little sloppy and telegraphed, we played with more confidence than orange team and looked like the better squad.

Sure is nice to open up the Richmond Times Dispatch and see not just one LU headline, but two on the front page of the sports section!!!

"Flames' Rocco, Jennings honored by Big South"
"Liberty stuns lackluster Cavs"

:D

That dumb blog wasn't that bad, but people, seriously, stop siting the rpi, it's such a worthless tool of a tool.

The RPI has some value as the year progresses and the body of data grows. To cite it after 2 games shows that the writer has zero insite into how it works.

Actually the Montreat game didn't count in RPI so we were based strictly on that UNCA mess. Obviously that will change dramatically.

Okay, so whatever I say, do the exact opposite. We want more rpi, give us more, it's great!

RPI is a great tool ... in February.

On the bright side for Virginia, the Cavs are still a full game ahead of Liberty in the Big South standings.

Any way you want to dissect it, this is a great win. Congrats to RMK and the guys. I think it was needed, and I did anticipate a rebound from the last game, but ... not this. A great surprise.

It is something that can't be taken away, something to build on, and something to encourage the young guys.

If this can continue, the Ashville game will be just a footnote.

Easy on the ACC blog by Norman Wood- he did say the season is young and to indulge him in an observation- I am no fan of his, but by all accounts after the UNCA game you guys certainly were more critical of LU than he was of UVA- so what's the big deal??

The RPI is not any indication of how things will be once the season is played out- it doesn't even make sense until each team has at least finished half of the conference schedule- then the movements up/down tend to be much more subtle than the 100-200 point gains/losses you can see right now.. Great tool but now's not the time..

Still a great win for you guys!!

Haize laid it on pretty thick. I don't know if coolhandluke actually didn't get it, or if he was going in a different (unknown) direction.

I thought it was Sarcasm, but I wasn't sure. Sarcasm is most of the time in the tone of your voice so its hard to pick up on in writing. I don't know aything about Purple Haize, so I didn't know if he was kidding or if he was being serious.
