15k "paid attendance" not actual

we've had this argument about 9000000 times.

everyone that pays an activity fee (all students) have technically bought season tickets. (10k)

Add to that the 10-12k we avg this last season- we're in like flynn.

its all about the numbers baby!

no prob

(hijack in progress)

PS: ever watch Mountain West games at 0100 AM? about 1500 people in the stands, blizzard conditions (I'm talking FBS powers like Utah Tech vs Wyoming St, etc)

and yes- I think I made those 2 up- but you get my point.

no butts in the stands- but no NCAA issues either, at least that I've heard of

When you move up a level, the opportunity is there to get better recruits, and there is an initial buzz and forward moving momentum that you can build on.

LU took both football and basketball into D-1 after having mostly losing seasons in both sports at the D-2 level. Most of LU's top seasons in both sports were during the first five to seven years of D-1. In my view, LU lost that momentum at least in part due to the financial cloud that hung over this institution in the 90's. Things have changed and LU is more stable now, and hopefully we'll take that next step up to bowl division soon.

Ya gotta have a big vision in order accomplish anything in life. Handouts are another story and they are not accomplishments.

The dream precedes the event.

Those who have the confidence to think that they can are always in the game and their dream is always still alive until fulfilled.

This instution is evidence of that.

It's nowhere near possible financially. Would you rather be a 6-6 team AT BEST in FBS or be a 8-9-10 win team every year in FCS?

The former. Would you like to come in 1st every race at the special olympics or 2nd to last in an LU track meet.

Nobody will come to a team that's 6-6.

we were 6-5 this year and people showed up...I know that has little to do with the record and more to do with the newness of things...but I am sure if the step up is taken slowly and not rushed it is possible...put a 10 year plan into place right now and I think it is possible...at this point in time thought we are fine where we are at

People on here don't want a 10-year plan based on success. They want to move up next year.

Students didn't show up to the WCU game worth crap. The other 5 were well attended.

Football attendance isn't really "making the case for Dunton".

And the reason people wanted Dunton canned in '05 was the same reason they didn't want him hired in '02, because he was too attached to the old regime, and because of issues with him personally. When Dunton arrived back on campus in '02, he was quite adamant in saying that he wouldn't stand for being treated the way that he had been during his last tenure.

true...but there was a reason why the WCU games wasn't well attended, but i fail to remember why...regardless we had decent crowds, the best i have seen since being at LU....but of course that has to do with the newness of things as well, like i said...I just think its possible to make the move up and be a decent program, but there is a right way to go about it, and you can't rush into things...that is all I am really saying...to say its not possible at all here is a stretch, i think its possible if done properly

Actually Jon, one game above 6-6 would make us bowl eligible. So, I'd say yes, it's worth the risk. And who knows, we may even get a committed evangelical QB like Rothlesberger, some-day. And if we make the NCAA tourney in BB in a conference like the MAC, we'll have a real chance at a win or two because we'll have better talent and a better seeding.

ouch!

That was a good one.

I guess we'll have to remove the word "committed" from that one and pray that he gets committed.

Just curious though, since I heard big Ben speak so candidly about his faith about a year ago: Is that footage rather recent?

We'll, it's not like many of us older guys don't have stuff like that in our backgrounds.

I'm not gonna totally write the guy off for that because missing the mark with God is something that we should all be familiar with.

But I understand that the deans at your school would not be so understanding if he were at LU.

The reason there was excitement about this years football team is because people were finally convinced that there was a good chance the program is heading in the right direction, (which it is by the way). I could tell you about past recruiting nightmares, that would curl smoothies hair.

Also there has been a MAJOR effort to connect with former players who do have opportunities to direct possible recruits toward Liberty, where they have been ignored in the past. It may not last, (I think it will,) but there have been conversations with people who hold considerable outside influence, with the most senior people in the football and university community that have already had positive results for the program.

We need to foster this commitment/involvement with all the other sports and I think the current AD and his staff will try to do that. We have no idea what some of our former alumni can bring to the table. I know I have been personally suprised recently about the status of our former atheletes.

My .02 for the day.

i think this is a sign this thread has taken its course

by the way 6-6 makes you bowl eligible...Florida State was 6-6 and made a bowl...which I am a Florida State fan and even I thought that was rediculous and just a sign there are too many bowl games...

Well, even the Chuck E. Cheeze Bowl, if there was one, would be better exposure than nothing at this point.

Can ANYONE make a LOGICAL case for keeping RD at this point (meaning more than a one year extension)?

To reiterate from earlier, in my view, the next three games on the road will be telling for this team. The way I see it, the way that this team responds to last Saturday night's game with the next three road games will define this team for the remainder of the season. Some key players are going to have to step up, put the team first, and get it done. Dunton and his staff need to do their part , prepare these guys, and put them in a position to win.

We will find out tonight about at least the begining to that response.

And after that, I'm sure that the discussion regarding Dunton will continue on in some way.
