JB & DL have been given unmatched resources from any of our previous coaches or any program in the history of the BSC! LU is now 13-36 vs d1 teams, 9-17 vs BSC in the last two years, this is DL's 5th season and he has a senior loaded team, yet some want to say that we are recruiting players who fit the mission. Are some simply reduced to making excuses, has losing become their acceptable standard?
Who is making excuses? Have you seen this poll? Most say layer should be fired. I just would love to know what you would do. But since you aren't going to answer that question, why have you consistently worked so hard avoiding the question?

LU needs to go after more in-state players. Almost daily I read sports pages in the Lynchburg, Roanoke and Richmond newspapers. I see players from the state scoring a lot of points including some at Big South schools. LU needs to recuit more agressively in the state of Virginia.

Its like I said above ballcoach, what I would look for if I was the AD is someone who isnt focused on a single area, but someone who aggressively pursues the best players who still would be a fit for LU regardless where they come from. If the kid can ball, but he gets arrested for drug possession or something, he really isnt gonna do us a whole lot of good even if he came from LCA, VES, Holy Cross, EC Glass, Heritage or Rustburg (using those just for example sake)

TO LBURGLIFER I support LU basketball, and I do no think the current head coach is doing a good job..so yes I think he should be gone but the answer is not bringing in someone who we have brought back twice already. Plus I am sure it will be hard to pull him from his current D1 coaching job. The better way is bringing in someone not RD and not Dale Layer

I could care less if we get all our players from Rhode Island or Guyana, we need some much better players. It looks like we have a pretty decent class coming in, but MBB is definitely the program providing the major drag on the athletic department right now. I would like to see us give Layer one more year, only because he is a great guy. I would like to see him prove that not all nice guys finish last. If major improvements are not forthcoming after next year, he has had more than enough time to prove himself and a change should be made.

I really don't understand the ongoing banter regarding RD, he is NEVER coming back to LU. That ship sailed a long time ago. I believe it would do us all good to look ahead, not backwards. My .02.

They just need to go after better players. What's it matter if they get them from VA or NY?

I dont say this often but shuk I agree with you...that is why I think that our next coach hire is someone who is just as comfortable recruiting Lynchburg as they are recruiting Los Angeles, Concord as they are Chicago or Charlotte, Norfolk as they are New York City.

You guys talk about some of the dumbest stuff... All those playing this year won the tournament last year, except for Speaks. So I would say they are good enough, most of their roster is from all over already, if you like that.

RD is not walking thru that door (stole that from Pitnio)
Meyer is not walking thru that door, UNLESS you throw 400k at him

And the players next year that look good on paper now will still be coached by same guy that is coaching the current players that are in last.

Big key is, there is 3/4 weeks to go and a lot of games to be played, this whole thing can be void with 2 wins this week.

Liberty Basketball Men's Program is stuck where everyone 'thinks they are suppose to be good' be in actuality have never really been consistently good at all. More like consistently mediocre. Regardless of who the coach was!

1 our record was horrible last year. The Tournament run was the exception
2 Jeff Meyer
3. Why would he take a pay cut? http://www.annarbor.com/sports/um-baske ... y-bonuses/

Fair enough on the number Jon, but he isnt going to leave a cushy gig with a very good coach in Beilein for what would be as PH said would be a pay cut. As I said, go for someone young (not JK37's age but close to it), hungry and ready to travel to get the best players

I don't get it. This team had a horrible record last year and had a miraculous run in the tournament. These are the same players that had a losing record last year and we lost a significant piece in Speaks a guy who played the 3 with a lot of emotion very well. With him gone the defensive focus came on the two guards who, if left alone, can hurt you. Other teams have taken our guards out all year (with quicker and taller defenders) and invite the 3, 4, 5 to do something which they have somewhat. The talent is middle of the road BSC talent, I'm sorry but it is. Just because we have seniors doesn't make us better it just means we're a year older with the same talent. Most other teams have had an infusion of frosh impact players - we have not. I believe the expectations coming into this year on this team were high if not unrealistic.

I go to every home game and the occasional away game. I am a strong supporter of LU athletics. I have not given up on this team but our bigs will have to carry us through the BSC tournament. Anything is possible - just look at last year Play Basketball

It looks like the incoming group has more athleticism and talent than the group of seniors we have now and that keeps me optimistic.

It wouldn't be a pay cut. He makes 160k base at Michigan
Going by my numbers making 400k per year at LU is more than 160k per year at Michigan.
Total package at Michigan is 670k for 4 years
At LUit would be 1.6 million

You may need to re read that article again. Michigan is paying him 670 per year and they will not hit all those bonuses.

I honestly believe that some of you thinks that Purple Haize turns water into purple wine. You guys believe everything he says without researching or reading for yourself. He should start his own cult.

If you think Jeff Meyer makes more as an assistant at Michigan per year, than Liberty pays their Head Coach per year, I got some beach front property to sell ya in W Va!!!

You are right that according to what the University says they paid last year he only made 160,000. Of course it also says Beilein makes 200,000 and Brody Hoke only makes $300,000.
