Pardon my ignorance but what is "ESPN Show"?

Whether we like it or not, the BSC is an entry level conference to D1 officiating. You're going to have a broad spectrum of experience in the league. Perhaps the "big dogs" had bigger/prior games scheduled to work last night. That's how it works...your top conferences you officiate get first dibs on your schedule. You then fill in the rest of your schedule with the lower ones.

The first part of that is just wrong.

Brian Shey: Division I ref since at least 2002 and has reffed 37 games this year including SEC, Conf USA, and CAA games. It was his first Big South game this year but he's been doing SoCon and ASun regularly.

Don Hudson: Division I ref since at least 1996 and has reffed 8 games this year. He's mainly been a MEAC ref and is moving into the Big South. It was his second Big South game of the year.

Tim Nestor: Division I ref since at least 1996 and has reefed 43 games this year including 18 ACC games. It was his fifth Big South game this year.

Referees are imperfect. I watched the game and saw nothing out of the ordinary just inconsistency. It was more the utter bias of the announcer that floored me. He sounded like it was one of his own kids playing - a parent without objectivity. I follow a few teams and have listened to BB on radio since I was a kid and never heard such a lack of professional decorum and disrespect to officials and the opposing team when it comes to announcing. He even made the comment that when EG pulled up on his defender (in the last 20 seconds of the game) and allowed him to hit him from behind, he referred to EG's play as being "not fair" . . . What ?????????? Now the opposition are cheaters. Between cheating refs and cheating LU players it is a wonder how CCU could have ever won. My rant! I'm done!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I would call the opposition cheaters.... when I was 5.

I didnt watch the game so I wont comment on Mr Hogue and his announcing, but I call basketball games for a station in Amherst (WAMV actually, they carry Amherst County football and baseball as well, called by Eric Powers) and I will get excited for good plays by Amherst but I know that the other team makes good plays too and I willl give them their due, and they will get calls against them that I disagree with, but if what you guys are saying is true from what happened last night, if I called a game like that, Id probably run the risk of getting yanked off the air for acting that way. Broadcasters for a particular team can have a degree of homerism but there is no way that if you are calling network that you can get away with showing a blatantly obvious bias like that, even if one of the teams happened to be one I am a fan (or alma mater) of...

Our play by play guy Fabian Fuentes is pretty good, but a homer, uses "we" and "they" a whole bunch. The students they have doing the womens games are awful at best.

His funny as heck habit is when we are down 30 or 40, he'll say something like "we are down by 30, there are 8 minutes and 20 seconds left in regulation time", like we have some glimmer of OT or something.

I f coaches made comments about refs like he did they would get a suspension and a fine. He named the refs and spelled out their shortcomings in very unflattering and unprofessional ways like he had some personal vendetta against them. I can see this having an affect on the listeners (inciting the masses at CCU). Thank goodness we have integrity and professionalism with Jamie Hall, Alan York and Nick Pierce. We are blessed :)

That may be the first time "Jamie Hall" and "Integrity" have been used in the same sentence withouth the word "LACK" thrown in there!!! :D
There are two common, and IMO, legitimate complaints with some officials. 1) Is the number of games they work. It is hard to be fresh if this is your 5th game in 6 nights. 2) On Monday you are working Duke/Maryland. On Tuesday you are working LU/Longwood. Which one are you going to be sharper for?

Probably our game because, according to UNC fans, no one actually calls fouls on Duke!

I find it interesting that Matt Hogue isn't calling either Big South Game of the Week game this week. Mike Morgan is doing the PBP with Nate Ross on Thursday and Ralph Patterson on Saturday.

i think you guys may find some interesting stats on here, especially regarding the referees, and refs in general that you have questions about such as fouls etc...couple things stuck out when i looked at our list of refs and how inexperienced some were

Perhaps Kyle is finally over his infatuation with all things Conway. Or maybe he listened to the telecast of our game down there last week.

On refs, I always liked when former Atlanta Braves catcher Bruce Benedict would do our games back in the Atlantic Sun. Too bad he doesn't work the Big South at all. He does quite a few SEC games a year normally as well.

That's the crew for the games, not necessarily just him.
Still, that's alot.

Any player/coach with at least half a brain knows how to adjust to what's being called. It's up to them...it's their choice to abide by the rules or receive the penalty.

For example, 4 of the 5 techs we handed out the other night were for taunting....BY THE SAME TEAM. We told them to knock it off. We told the coach, "they've got to stop talking to the other team." But, the players didn't care. So, if they want to keep doing it, we'll keep ringing them up.
