As for halftime, the dunk teams back 5, 6 years ago were better... least they would knock a volunteer out and send them to the hospital.. I'll never forget that convo.

The funniest thing (besides the kid on the couch in front of me mocking Winthrop and trying to pick a fight with them was Becki Falwell dancing and Jerry Jr. holding up a dollar bill...
Nothing you described has ANYTHING to do with EFFORT! To say a team is not giving full effort is the ultimate insult, and I saw no indication of it. Mistakes are mistakes, and I agree about the fouls. If anything, those types of mistakes tend to result from pressing and "trying too hard".

Nice to get the win. I was hoping we would crush them though. And those refs were awful on both ends.

Don't get too caught up in crushing them. A ten point win in a low scoring game is a wide margin. Also, keep in mind, there's a decent chance that we see this team again in the Vines in about a month from now.

I thought that we played down to their level and that explains the closeness of the game. But a win is a win no matter how ugly it really was. I am a little worried about the VMI game after watching us struggle against Winthrop considering that they are not the elite team which they have been in the past.

I wouldn't read too much into that. A win is a win, ugly or not. Teams like WU are gonna force that style of play. LU just needs to play with patience in games like this. I think that they did a pretty good job, but there's definetly room for improvement. Presbyterian will actually present a greater challenge because they're better than Winthrop. If we play with patience and we don't let them force us into metal errors, then we'll come away with another much needed win.

I can't think of a better way to start off the conference tourney.

Call it whatever you want.... we did not play to the ability that we are capable of last night... effort trying to hard... whatever, we can play much better.

I was impressed with both of them as well. Although from what we have seen thus far I guess, that is not saying a whole lot. Still, it looks like maybe Tyler is getting back into game shape and Austin is really playing hard. How about that dive for a loose ball? You don't see many 6'9 guys do that. Also he had one drive to the basket where he really showedsome some skill and athleticism. He missed the layup but he was suprising quick. I think we may have a lot to look foward too if he keeps playing this way.

Good Gracious man, don't have a heartattack.... geez... fine call it whatever you want.... we did not play to the ability that we are capable of last night... effort trying to hard... whatever, we can play much better.
My heart is beating slow and steady.

When you are typing something on a message board it IS important which words you choose. We can't see your face or hear the expression in your voice. You said they weren't trying hard, and that is very different from not playing well.

I agree there is much room for improvement, but I don't think a double didget win over Winthrop should be sneezed at. They are sub 500 in the BSC, but like us, a lot of their losses have been nailbiters. Last night was not. I was not really worried about the outcome the last several minutes.

Is that the way Winthrop always plays or did they slow it down due to our superior talent and overall quickness?

Someone donated $100 to the school for Becki to dance with the students to Cupid Shuffle. That's where the "dollar bill" came from.

It's the way Winthrop plays ... they still have the same defensive principles and some pretty good long bigs who can defend against penetration and force turnovers. Winthrop is by far the most physical team in the conference defensively, and the only way -- right now at least -- it can keep itself in games is to play a slow-down, half-court game with intense man pressure on defense.

Liberty did a nice job of packing it in defensively, getting Winthrop's bigs in foul trouble and forcing the Eagles into becoming a jump-shooting team. The Eagles simply don't have the shooters to win an outside shooting contest this year. They have to beat you by pounding it inside with Corbin, Valentine and Robinson. And Mantoris, though he played well defensively, wasn't the same athletic pounder last night on the offensive end. You could tell the ankle was limiting him.

I agree with paradox that this could very well be a preview of a BST game. It's starting to take shape:

1-2 -- VMI/Radford
3 -- Liberty
4-5 -- Gardner-Webb/UNCA
6 -- Winthrop
7 -- CCU/CSU
8 -- CSU/HPU

I was hoping the same thing! At least we won and avenged our 2 point loss from last time. By the way, I thought the reffing was awful too. :woohoo

I can just picture scar at home watching a wendy's commercial, jotting it down on his notepad.
I do list a few cute things that I want to say for games but I never get to them. The game moves too fast. I find the best throw away lines come spontaneously and this was one that just came to me like that. If I was planning it I would have said it in the very beginning. I do like that word though and I have heard is so much the past few weeks.
