Games like this are going to happen, especially early on, with nine players suiting up---and seven of the nine are freshman.
This team is only going to get better!

Can't wait for baseball to start but I hope Toman doesn't lose 1 of their first couple of games. Would hate to give up on them in February.![]()
It's not even Thanksgiving yet !!!!!!
Bob Knight just talked about freshmen in the pregame of UNC/Kentucky. He said you have no idea what to expect day in and day out. But some of you guys know more than he does about basketball.
Just because some of you play pick up basketball in the mornings doesnt mean you know anything about the game. That's why you play in the mornings.

It's too early to tell. It's kinda sad that some of you on here are just throwing your team under the bus for this one game- your first D1 road game at that.. We, just like you guys are super young this year- on any given night when your depending on freshmen they're simply not going to always deliver- period.. I agree with you Jon that until some more games are played you simply don't know what any team is going to do, traditionally when UNCA has been picked towards the bottom half of the pre-season polls- we've ended up either the 1st or 2nd best team after the year is played.. many of you simply read some pre-season predictions and prospectus and assume that it's all just going to play out that way.. Those of you that are so down on your team really don't seem to know the game very well- whether you play pick up ball or not!!

Your biggest problem is finding who is going to be a leader- even if that means that that person's scoring is going to suffer- who's gonna step up for your team like TJ used to?? I will leave your coaches alone as well, but UNCA's tallest starter is 6'6" (in real life).. if you can't make us pay inside with how small we are- you're not going to out shoot us in our gym.. 0-13 in the second half from 3 point land- drive, post, do something- but you don't have a play maker yet to help guys like Curry & Smith to get good shots & break down the defense.. so the question is who is going to step up for your team??

hurricane fan wrote:Yeah, because we have never heard the "rebuilding" excuse, right? The difference is the kids we have now are 18 years old and not 20 year old JC transfers with two years of college basketball experience. Maybe McKay should have gone that route. Get a bunch of JC transfers that may be more "talented" when they come, but that embarrass everyone off the court. IMO, the growing pains we are going through right now and the outcome we will see, will be a far cry from past regimes. I would rather get embarrassed on the court every once in awhile than be embarrassed on a daily basis by the actions of players off the court.

This team is only going to get better? Well, that's only because there's nothing lower than rock-bottom. Way to go guys.
By the way, guess who also played nine freshman and sophomores yesterday? That's right, UNC Asheville!
Stop making excuses and wake up, fellas. Ritchie McKay has a track record of failure, and Liberty University is just the next stop on his 'Reverse Midas Touch' tour.
“Now we’ve got a lot of film, and a lot of embarrassment to motivate us,” Flames coach Ritchie McKay said. “To be on national TV and play that poorly, it lessens the hype of how good the recruiting class is, about contending for a conference championship. We won’t have to answer those questions again. We just got flat-out embarrassed. There’s not a team in this league that will respect a performance like that....They had all the fight and all the toughness,” McKay said. “We wanted a pretty, finesse way to win. They wanted to win it the physical, tough, grind-it-out way. They got what they deserved, and we got what we deserved.”http://www.newsadvance.com/lna/sports/c ... ras/10742/
“It was just embarrassing,” Smith said. “You work real hard in practice and then we just came out and played nothing like ourselves.”
“I don’t think we had a good defensive possession,” Curry said. “We might have had one or two. Coach can show us the whole game. He doesn’t even need to break it up. It was bad.”
