We tried that in the Big South Semi's
Yes, but we did it with 5 guards, and were hopelessly outmatched on defense. It still would have worked if our shooters had a normal night. Next year we will be able to use essentially the same strategy with 6'9 and 6'10 players in the game and won't have to deal with the 'dueling substitutions" fiasco.

Hasn't there been serious speculation about Kenny George going pro BEFORE his senior season?

Yeah, if he's smart. I think his knees will only last about 3 or 4 more years at the most. He better go pro while he still can!

It seems like there would have been some announcement by now if George were going to enter the draft, but maybe not. I believe there is a deadline, but don't know when it is.

That was then and this is now. This year it's Ritchie's team and he gets to sort out the strengths and weaknesses of a team that he and Brad have put together. This current team is more oriented to McKay's style of play.

I hate to use the mind of Mr. Rumsfeld here, but I'll give it a try nonetheless: There appear to be seven known knowns and four known unknowns. When the unknown knowns become known knowns, then we'll know. But we also have to allow for unknown unknowns and things that we don't know, we don't know

Of course, a lot can change between now and November and November and beyond...

Weaver can be added to our list of McDonald’s All-American nominees coming to the mountain in the fall.

Thanks, Manson. Is Weaver sold on Coach McKay or what? Sounds like this signing was 100% based on who we have coaching our team:
“I am very excited to come to Liberty,” said Weaver. “Having the chance to play for a coach like Coach McKay is going to be one of the greatest athletic experiences for me. Coach McKay is an excellent coach, and I know that working with him I will enhance my game at every level. Liberty is a great fit for me because I am a Christian and because of my background, and the way I was brought up.”

Nice. Coach must really impress these players as much as he impresses me. It is obvious he and his staff are bringing in some good recruits. Let's just see if these guys pan out!

From the SIDs ...
McKay Inks Another Hoopster

May 27, 2008
Lynchburg, Va.

Liberty men’s basketball head coach Ritchie McKay has announced that Bill Weaver has signed to play basketball for the university for the 2008-09 academic year.

Weaver (Hampton, Va.), a 6-4 small forward, led his Bethel High School squad to the Virginia AAA State Championship game, where his Bruins squad fell to T.C. Williams. Weaver averaged 16.3 ppg and 8.1 rpg during Bethel’s 30-2 season. During the postseason, Weaver tallied 20.2 ppg and 9.1 rpg, as Bethel lost its first and last games of the year, while recording 30 consecutive wins between setbacks.

“I am really excited that there was a player of Bill’s caliber still available this late,” said McKay. “Liberty is very fortunate to get a student-athlete with the athletic ability and academic foundation Bill Weaver possesses. Bill comes from a very successful program at Bethel, and he will be a great representative of Liberty University.”
