Do we know he's going to be here? I didn't see him on the bench all year as far as I could tell and I would have thought he would have at least been on the bench. And if he is here, then someone currently on our roster will not be back next year and possibly 2. That's assuming Armon and Oz aren't brought back on scholarship.
Johnny is still here. I see him all the time and on Tuesday we had a conversation about his wardrobe. I told him his tie was too close to the Coastal colors. He is ready to play. I guess his time is now since technically the seniors are out of the program now. This team should be really good next year but I think it is too early to tell. I haven't seen any of them play but Stephene. I hope they are as good as we think they will be but I have been around here a long time and I don't like to pencil in Freshmen to be superstars and starters. I don't mind if you guys do it though but I am going to reserve judgement until they arrive on campus in the fall and I get to evaluate with my own peepers.

I'm no expert on NCAA regs, but unless I'm mistaken, if the reasons for Stephene not playing this year are academic, then he would not be allowed to sit on the bench during games (or practice with the team for that matter). I think he could do conditioning and some other limited participation.

its hard to say who will do what untill they get here and play. you can't predict how well someone will do when them move up a level until they start to play.

He's been at every home game in the section right behind the bench, normally wearing a Liberty basketball shirt.

Ok thanks. I wasn't sure but I haven't been to every game this year. I guess if he's been here all year, there's no reason to suspect he wouldn't play next year unless something happens to change that. So, with that news we can assume Armon and Oz won't be back on scholarship, but we still need to "ditch" one more scholly. Who will it be? I'm guessing Holland, but could also be Soup.

I'd rather we not speculate on anybody's scholarship being pulled. It serves no good purpose. The staff will make their decisions and then it is open game.

he actually paid his own tuition this year and it would just be silly for him to leave now. he is a physical player and has potential to be a shut down defensive player. he also has a good jumper.

I agree. For instance, Seth will come in with more size than originally anticipted, and could easily slide over to the shooting guard slot.

Even our sure returning starter, Anthony Smith at 6-5, could easily slide over to the 4. Brolin Floyd who is a projected wing could wind up at the 4 in McKay's system. In fact, he and Jackson could wind up sharing time there, forming a potent combination of power and finesse.

I'd imagine that McMasters and Austin Smith are pretty much set at the 5. They are the only game in town at that spot.

From the SID's:

http://libertyflames.com/index.cfm?PID= ... 59&TeamID=
With McKay’s inaugural season at Liberty in the books, much anticipation is building toward next season. A blend of key returnees and a recruiting class ranked in the Top 50 in the nation should help Liberty contend for the wide-open Big South Championship in 2008-09.

Spring 2007 signee and current Liberty student, Johnny Stephene, will also join the group of talented freshmen for the 2008-09 campaign.

How deep will we go next year? We have 6 incomers, plus Stephene and Baker. Add to that Jenkins, Anderson, Ohman, and Smith, and we have a ton of people able to play. Will we play 10+ every game, or will coach cut it down to about 8 per game? Will anyone be red-shirted?

whats up with stephene? will he contend for minutes at the point? IMHO, I think that bj will start at one. Is Stephene good enough to deserve minutes there?

or will he be like holland and get a few here and there.

Smith is very highly recruited. He will play next year unless he gets injured or has problems with grades.

If Seth plays totally at the 2 with BJ at the 1, I think Lewis will see signifcant minutes at the 1 as well. If Seth splits time, I don't know if he'll see the court that much next year.

after watching Curry and Stephene today....I would think the backcourt would be Jenkins/Curry or Jenkins/Ohman

ohman played very well today, even though it was pick up

Wow, if Seth only knew how important that pick-up game was and that he was actually being evaluated, he may have brought his "A" game, if he even has one that is. Oh well, maybe Greenberg's offer over in Blacksburg will still hold up or possibly he can reconnect with the Davidson offer and team up with that other guy. Or maybe, Davidson & VT will offer Ohman instead. So many possibilities. I guess we'll just have to wait and see, huh.

Dickens, if anyone is evaluating CFAW pickup games in LaHaye, it should be BJ, who is a semi-professional on reporting and evaluating talent.
