If roundball is your blood, this is the place to discuss the Flames as they move into the Ritchie McKay era for the 2nd time.

Attending this game is an excused absence from classes, according to an email I received from the LU administration. The :oldhag will remember when this first happened for a tournament game down in Charleston several years ago--was that 1994?

Wish I could make it tomorrow; I"m actually out of town and this hotel doesn't have ESPNU. I have it at my house, but that does me no good, I'm going to try to find a bar around here that will show it but that may be tough since I'm not in a "big south market" if there is such a thing. May be stuck with the edge or jerry.

I already paid for it...I do all the money stuff in the SCAR Household. Didn't I say I was getting it last night? It was on my to do list 1st thing this morning. i will be watching a lot of hoops in the next couple of weeks. I will have to work from home a couple/few times in the coming weeks!

edit: I did say I was going to cancel the next day but I will just cancel at the end of the month. I just won't watch all of those channels after the NCAA's are over.

Its always the single guys calling our manhood into question. Isn't it, Scar?

I refuse to give Comcast one more penny than I have to while I wait for AT&T's U-verse to get connected on my street (they keep saying in 2-3 weeks). I have a feeling I am "inviting" myself over next door to my neighbor with DirecTv.

so anyway, about this game. I really am extremely confident we'll win this. We were really playing on another level on Tuesday. I expect us to cool off a bit, but we're really rolling right now. UNCA looked somewhat shakey in terms of a 1v8 game.

look at the points in the paint in game number 2. ha. Obviously George will deny us of that for a good 15-20 minutes of the game. Lucky for us, we're not even pretending to feed it down low any more.

LU looks to upset Big South's top seed

By Chris Lang
Lynchburg News & Advance
March 5, 2008

VMI coach Duggar Baucom can authoritatively say that if Liberty plays the way it played Tuesday, the Flames are going to be a hard team to knock out of the Big South tournament.

"At least one through six, they're as good as anybody in the league," Baucom said after his Keydets lost 103-88 at Liberty in the conference quarterfinals. "They can really wreak some havoc. They've got an ACC point guard (TeeJay Bannister), one of the premier post players in the league (Alex McLean) and Anthony Smith is the most athletic wing in the league. Then you add in shooters like (Jeremy) Anderson and (Kyle) Ohman, and that's a pretty good group."

And from Chris' counterpart in Asheville ...
UNCA's magic number down to 2

by Jason McGill
published March 6, 2008 12:15 am

ASHEVILLE — Immediately after Tuesday’s Big South Conference tournament win over Charleston Southern, UNC Asheville assistant men’s basketball coach Trip Cogburn wiped the number 3 from a dry-erase board in the locker room and replaced it with a 2.

That figure symbolizes the two wins Asheville needs to claim it’s second NCAA tournament berth, and two unmet goals from a preseason list of seven targets.
And everybody's favorite future NBA star  gives a health update ...
Asheville senior Bryan Smithson netted a career-high 31 points in the first Liberty matchup but hobbled through the second contest with an ankle injury, finishing with six points on 2-of-11 shooting.

When asked if he feels 100 percent back from nagging injuries, Smithson said no.

“Everybody at this point in the season has nicks and cuts and bumps and bruises,” said Smithson, who leads the Bulldogs with 16.6 ppg.

“I’ve spent a lot of hours in the training room, had my teammates’ support, and my coaches have been patient with me in practice (to get to where I am).”

That sums it up right there. I honestly believe we have the best offense in the league. The only weakness is TeeJay having to sit with foul trouble, and that shows our lack of depth. If we could just play some defense for 40 minutes, no way we lose the next 2 games. But when have we ever?

How many would you say are on these buses? I'm very curious to hear the turnout. I'm guessing if they only gave us 100 tickets it's probably about 100.

On one bus is the cheerleaders, and athletic department people and a few fans... The other bus is the Lunatics and other students... We sold all of our tickets... From what I have been told if the host team seats under 3,000 it only has to offer the other team 100 tickets...

I know that someone on another thread said that you can see the game at the Student Service Center, but apparently, they will be showing both games (HPU vs. Winthrop and our game). Also, am I missing something. From what I understand, the championship game is at UNCA, no matter if they win or lose, period. ?

If LU wins, then the championship game will either be at High Point or down in Rock Hill at Winthrop, since one of those two would be the highest remaining seed.
