You're not the only one.
And the Randy Dunton era ended way too soon.
With all this RD talk I'm reminded of a song:
There's no use looking back, because what's done is done, and there's no way to know what might have been.
So leave the past in the past. If you are a true LU fan you will respect what the administration has done and move on and support regardless of who is coach. If not, it is/will be damaging to the program for years to come. I was an RD supporter when he was here, and I'm now a McKay supporter because first and foremost I'm an LU supporter.
Amen! I've attended most LU home games since 1996 when I was a student, and then continued attending to the present day. That's 12 years, and I'd say I've missed about 3 home games a year on average.
I was here for Hankinson, and cheered when we had a rough record, and I cheered when we always beat VA Tech, but then lost about every Big South game, and when Nathan Day came back for the tournament, and we only fell to Wintrhop by 1.
I was here for Dunton, when we lost in the second round to Radford and Gabe Martin had the dunk, and then a year later, when we won the BSC. And then the other years, where we were hot/cold, and I cheered.
And now I'm here to support Ritchie Mckay...I was at the great game against UNC Asheville, where the crowd was huge, and we got the first conference win of the year against them. I listened where we a good conference USA team, and where we gave VA Tech all they could handle.
I'm not going to get hung up on RD. He wasn't fired - they decided not to renew his contract. I didn't mind him as a coach, but I'm happy for Ritchie to be here.
Can we leave the past in the past - I think Ritchie will get us there...we gave RD 5 years without much heat until the last year of his contract - you would think that people that seem attached somehow to RD would give Ritchie the same break and see what he does this year and the next 4 before people start criticising. I think things are looking up, and I haven't given up on this season yet..I'll be there for VMI...looking for the sweep and a #3 seed. One thing I'm pretty certain of...this coaching staff has more division 1 head coaching experience than we've ever had before - between Layer and McKay. I fully support them and expect big things in the comming years...
But this is just the first year - and it wasn't the same as RD, who got hired the day after Hankinson was fired...Ritchie was the result of a long search...he didn't even have the full summer to recruit and prepare...and we're still hovering around that same #3 spot...I don't see where the sky is falling.
