Ill tell you what Im going to Las Vegas this December Coach McKay is sold out for this program and regardless of this RD stuff hes not our coach its been a year now and the only reason we still have an issue is because RD fans hang on the boardwaiting for someone to make an RD joke or reference something he said/did. If this is TBGBGB and manson arguing fine, no biggie. These guys are always here. But those of you who look here to pick fights either cheer for the program now or stop coming here.

RD is no longer here.

Now with the LB stuff although I dont know enough for myself I also know some of the people presenting opinions are closer than most other people, but I pledged confidence, so i cant tell you

? You mean me posting one line at a time?

I have always done that, in emails and on forums.

It's totally original for me.

LUconn wrote:I think the whole "LB was a thug" is new to the discussion. SJ's been saying it for the last couple of days and it's really the first time I've ever heard anyone say that type of thing about him.
Like I said, I, personally, don't think that. My opinion on him was that he was allowed a lot of leeway (sp?) within the basketball program and that carried over off of the court at times. The same can be said for a lot of athletes though. The "thug look" stuff I have mentioned is things that I have heard people saying in classes over the last two years. However, that was said about the entire team, and not just LB.

for just a different perspective, I told my wife about what was being said about Larry Blair on here and she just laughed...she said out all the athletes she has had class with and she has run into he was one of the last people she would've thought was trying to be a thug...because in reality there are no thugs at liberty...just some people that try way too hard...

I agree that he was given too much leeway on the court...that much is clear...but as far as off the court, anybody that I know that hung out with him on a regular basis will say nothing but good about him...he probably did get away with stuff, but so do a lot of athletes on this campus...and every other campus around this country...not that it makes it right, but lets keep things in perspective here

You come from different sides of the tracks. And their is a lot of things that you're not going to understand about LB and the others. Certain styles of dress exist within certain subcultures, but this in no way defines the man.

These men are here to play basketball. Ritchie McKay, Layer, ect. oversee the situation and they are as concerned about their spiritual developement as anything else. Some of you all need to back off and let these men do their jobs.

I agree with what you're saying. Once again, I'm not saying I believe this about Larry. You have to look at the overall population of Liberty. There are a large number of students here who have never been around people who dress different than what our dress code is. They've been raised in private schools with dress codes and everyone's been the exact same. That's why they have the preconceived notions about the way the team used to look, etc.

There are many examples of players whose lives have been turned completely around while they were in this program.

Some of the stories are really extraordinary.

I agree with that as well. I'm talking about perception, and we all know perception and reality are completely different a lot of times.

Well, it's time for some of these people to grow up and broaden their own perspectives. Thier's a whole world out their with different outlooks, styles, ect.

Yeah like I said I don't have a dog in the race. However you have a young man who dedicated himself to our Liberty University, represented us well and graduated. This guy didn't quit yet quitters are praised(low level of real understanding). Maybe he took questionable shots at times but when they went in we all cheered. The up and downs of athletics are documented. Rick Majerus' team could only score 20 pts in a game last night. It is not an easy journey in NCAA athleitics. I just think we could have more class in the way we treat our own.

Coming from one of the masters of trying to create negative or positive perceptions base on his agenda that is profound.

Larry Blair is a great guy and was always nice to me off the court, as was his family. I never had a problem with him, and when he and I talked (outside of saying "hi, whats up?" passing each other in the halls) there was always some mention of God and what He is doing in our lives. LB was great player for LU and is a great guy.

Well I know Larry pretty well and Thug is the last thing that comes to mind. I know a lot of the players and I don't think we have a Thug in the program or even the school as has been said by me and others. I think Jon cleared up what he was trying to say rather well. We do need to move forward. I really do get tired of people taking shots at RD and I also get tired of people trying to validate what he did in response to those digs. We should move on. There is no doubt that RD did some great things for this program. There is no doubt that the program was not where anyone wanted it to be in the past 2 years as well. That is unfortunate but that is life. Randy Dunton is a real person with a real family with real feelings. I think we forget that stuff sometimes when we are typing in Cyber space. I say let it go and move on. Randy will be fine and the Liberty basketball program will be fine. I am friends with Randy and I wish him nothing but the best. I don't get on here and defend him often because he is a big boy and can take it but I think enough is enough. Just my 2 cents but Liberty has a lot of positive things going on right now. We need to get behind this team. A much bigger subject to me is, why can't we get more folks in the Vines and what do we have to do to get the atmosphere like Williams Stadium? I marvel at this past football season and how many folks get behind the team from the 1st game on. Our hoops team deserves support too. I am looking forward to the 1st conference game to see how attendance spikes up. Go Flames.
