jcmanson wrote:I was thinking the same thing SCAR. It just seems that LUBM and others keep talking as if Hubbard will be the starting 4, and play the majority of the minutes at the 4. With the new big men additions, I don't see Hubbard getting alot of minutes at the 4 unless some of the new bigs we are getting are busts. Which I hope doesn't happen.
i never said he would start, we have some bangers coming in. and RP is just as important to this team as larry blair is when it comes to work on the court. rell sets all of those picks you see larry coming off of, was the 2nd leading rebounder on the team, dives for every ball, locks down anyone, and is our team captin. that cannot go overlooked. he does alot for us and will see plenty of minutes. i know he wont see as much as he did last season because he played alot and at the end of the season you were able to see his fatigue start to kick in. like scar said, on paper right now our team is deep. ofcourse the game isnt played on paper, and you never know who coach is going to red shirt but we look good right now.

my starting line up(oklahoma game):

1. BJ Jenkins
2. LB
3. Smitty
4. RP, Mclean,( thats a tough one)
5. Armon Jones
or you can see RP at 4 and Mclean at 5.... thats just what i think

Who said that guy is going to start???? We'll take them out back and shoot them!!! we dont need that kind of ignorance on this board!!!!

no but really, I hope he doesnt start....but like scar said we really dont know what to expect from him b/c he'll be playing a position he's a lot more comfortable with than last year....although he MUST learn to finish if he wants credit in my eyes

LUBM, you have BJ over Brew? Considering you have seen them all play that speaks volumes of how well he can play! Or perhaps, you meant until Brew is eligible in December.

We are very deep on paper, and that is new since 2004. We have been relying so much on one (LB) or two (Dees) so much the past two years. It will be nice to have more options.

Also, if we needed some more scoring that's a place you could see Hubbard at the 4.

With Dwight not eligible til after the semester BJ will probably play right away and then Coach D will decide how to work him in from there

that's why i had oklahoma game highlighted. that is going to be our first game next year. so thats before brew can play. he's way to good not to be on the floor with LB! i just think it's great that they will be on the same team next year. what are big south teams going to do about 2 future NBA players?????

Wow, 2 future NBA players? That may be a bit overstated but I get your point. Making it to the NBA is a long shot for most. No doubt both of these guys are pros and will play for money somewhere in this world but NBA is gonna be tough IMO. I have played with, against and been around many NBA players and the guys that make it are fortunate because there are so many talented people who don't make it. There is a fine line between making it and not. I am not excluding either one from having a shot only saying that it should not be a foregone conclusion that not only one of them but both of them will make it. That is a real stretch. Liberty has produced exactly 1 NBA player that actually made a roster. Cliff Webber was drafted in the early 80's when they had 10 rounds or so of the draft and Peter Aluma was a projected lottery pick going into his senior year. Bailey Alston was perhaps the greatest player, certainly the greatest scorer this school has ever seen but untimely injuries did him in. Now we think we have not 1 but 2 NBA players? And 2 perimeter players at that? WOW! I will say that I am pulling hard for both of them to make it though. I have a great relationship with LB (see my avatar) and I have gotten to know Brew a little and they both are hard workers and very talented for sure. Just trying to put some perspective out there about how tough it is to get to that league. More than any of the other professional sports for 3 reasons: 1. Rosters are shorter than the other sports. 2. Only 2 rounds of the draft which means only 60 players will be drafted each year. Everyone else is a free agent tryout. If you are not drafted, there is no pressure to keep you. 3. No minor league to develop you and move up through the ranks. You can argue that the NBDL is one but really it is just a league that is for guys not quite good enough to make it to the next level. The NBA looks to colleges and high schools for the next superstar. The NBDL is the Kelly Services of sports; If you need a temp, call them. Anyway, my two cents.

That is who I was referring to when I said only 1 guy has suited up. I just didn't mention him by name.

so you guys will have two more nba players than oklahoma when the first game rolls around, according to your manager. I guess i should bet on the flames in vegas for that one. by the way, unless your name is AJ or Jared (aka Bobby) you are not LU"s Best Manager.

I thought it was strange that he started dropping names like he was Tim Scarborough, but he starts off by saying "you guys will" as if he doesnt support LU or goes to a different school.

At anyrate, I think we can all agree that the manger got a little over excited and we most likely do not have 2 NBA players and probably not even 1.

after reading that article about Brew I realized it's not just those in the Liberty Bubble (or those who drink the koolade for all you brokeback fans out there) that thinks he's good people in the outside world respect his game and feel like he has a legit shot

not to mention a buddy of mine called me from Providence and he said Brew was his favorite player ever since he had a huge game against some big school...I forgot the name

Oh there's no doubting his skills. I've seen him play in many games. He and Gomes were a 2 man show in a very good Providence run 3(?) seasons back. I just think that he and Larry have somewhat of a common skill set, amongst NBAers making it tougher for them to get noticed/shine through.

You know know I think I am running out of Kool Aid, I may have to switch to Wylers!! I agree with ScAr. Having played with and against NBA'rs these guys are good but not that good. For starters, it is usually a good thing to be over 6'6" unless you are cat quick (insert small player drafted here for rebuttal) They can make a GREAT living on some continent ( I recommend South America, better cost of living then Europe) That is why I said it will be pretty tempting if LB gets a sniff from an international squad to come back to LU. And if he goes, Brew will take a look at it too.
Of course if LUBM keeps this up I recommend that we initiate a drug screening for this board!

Don't start mentioning stuff like that. We need LB and Brew to win the Big South. If they are gone, we are done.

Tally, you can't believe everything you read  Aluma did put on a Sacto uni but I don't think he suited up during a regular season game. I will count Aluma amongst the NBA players though since we need to boost that stat a little in our 35 year history. Even still that is only 2 and both of them were 7 foot Nigerians (ok 6-10). Having 2 guards at Liberty both go to the NBA would be one of the biggest stories of the year. I would love for that to happen btw but I am just trying to keep some perspective here.

I thought the other day when there was talk of just one NBA player that Peter had played for some team, but not being sure and the fact that SCAR is almost always right, I did not comment. However, this old brain says that Peter did play in at least one game and got 1 or 2 rebounds. Hey, they all count and few get there.

no kidding most college ball players including baseball just walk around talking about the teams that were "interested" in them....not many might actually have some practice gear to show for it!

Can we please get a correct spelling on the word Kool Aid or Koolade or Cool Ade.... Brokeback can you handle your 'word'

Out of the last 16 years of LU hoops only maybe 3 or 4 years has the Liberty men's program "NOT" had any NBA players. Keep up guys, you see there is always hype about the guys in our program. Julius is the only legit one. Then there was guys like Mike Coleman, Alston, Aluma (If Peter would have rebounded he may have been drafted), Larry Jackson, Nic Wright, Marcus White, then I think Carl Williams during Mel's era... now the last four years Blair, Dees, Brew, all suppose to be pro's! You see guys we are LIBERTY not UNC and we play in the BIG SOUTH not the BIG EAST. It is great to dream and hope, but be realistic and stay humble Flame Fans! Did Blair even get invited to Orlando NBA pre-draft camp?

And for LUBM, everyone gets to lol every time you type!!
