Ohman is a stud, judging from the box score.

What year is he? Is he the one that came from New Mexico?

Ohman is a sophomore walk-on, he was on the team last year. That kid from NM was Oestricher... or something like that. Someone will correct me.

Just got back from the game. Tyler was in street clothes along with Jeremy Anderson. Positives were shooting and TeeJay's floor leadership, although he also had some sloppy turnovers trying to make the spectacular pass. I also thought we had some excellent 30 second defensive posessions, but unfortunately several of them ended with one of Barton's guards draining a long 3 as the shot clock wound down . Some were contested and some were not. my biggest concern was the defensive boards. Barton got WAAAAAAY too many second and third shots.

The other comment I would make is that we had a couple of situations where we had double didget leads and seemed to be on a roll, but RMc clearly wanted to try some different combinations, and sometimes the lineup changes broke our momentum. Everyone who was in uniform played, including Lafser, Layer, and Armon. Lafser actually played quite a bit.

thankfully we beat Barton this time. but some observations from the game. Defense was good at times and sometimes not. There were several times where their guards were wide open from the perimeter. Ball handling is very suspect outside of TJ but even he was sloppy too. This team has a long way to go.

nice win for the flames. i dont know how much talent barton had coming back, but a win over the D2 champs is a nice way to start the season.

based on the stats, looks like they need to work on the boxouts (gave up 15 offensive rebounds) and the closeouts on the three point shooters (bartson shot 40.7% from downtown). offense looks like it was clicking on all cylinders though...

Anthony played very well. He has improved tremendously over last year.

Alex played well. He would be unstoppable if he used his right hand more.

Teejay showed why we needed a true point guard. He had a ton of assists (14?), but he had some turnovers as well. The turnovers were ones that were obvious "chemistry" turnovers. I say that meaning he thought a player was going to cut one way, and he cut the other. As the team plays in more games together, they will get a better feel for each other and those will cut down.

The most impressive player to me, other than Smitty, was Kyle. He shot great, but better than that was his defense and rebounding. He's very intense down there and will be a huge boost to the team. I honestly think that down the line, our lineup will be Teejay, Kyle, Smitty, Tyler, and Ace.

The thing that impressed me overall the most was the for the first time in my time here, the guys looked to be having fun. Basketball was fun to them again. They're very respectful of Coach McKay and listen to the assistants. There wasn't a single notion that they might have an argument the entire game, and anyone that saw last year's game saw people get ticked off a lot.

I'm really going to like Coach McKay. We gave him a "Rit-chie" chant before the game started as he walked by and he smiled and looked over and said thanks. We did it after halftime and at the end of the game as well. You can tell he really appreciates it.

Overall, when we played the guys that are going to play the most this year, we looked pretty good. As the season goes on, I think everything will gel more. We should be in for a fun year.

I couldn't agree more, Super. Kyle was lights out from the 3: he reminded me of a taller version of Hildo, but with much more emotion. He may be our answer for the 2-guard. Teejay looked great tonight, also. The 14 assists speak for themselves, as does the last one to Porter for the lay up game winning bucket. I hadn't seen that many dunks for Ace since the VMI game. And Smitty had a great game, too.

Now if we can just improve our rebounding a little. Both Russ and Armon saw playing time, but both looked like liabilities out there at the 5. McMasters can't get here soon enough.

About the coaching, it was almost like I was watching a silent movie, compared to the RD days. I didn't hear McKay raise his voice a single time, and it looked like he let his assistants do a lot of the coaching during timeouts. McKay looked very calm, cool, and collected.

I love the way McKay was, but I miss the foot stomp.

I actually saw you there, Cider. I was looking around your side seeing who I recognized and saw you.

I was talking with HMO during the second half and we were discussing how it was hard to gauge anything about the team from this game. So, I spent a lot of time just watching the coach and how he was handling things. Dude is a smooth operator. He was studying everything that was happening so intently. I think I'm going to like him a lot.

We had a little bit of fun with some of the chants. We started a Terry Falwell chant just because we could. Some of the other stuff was just basic. We tried working on some new stuff just to see what worked or not. We're trying to get in basketball shape as well. I hope we get other students to join us. It got loud at the end. Everyone was just sitting around the rest of the time. We had people ask us to sit down so they could see.

Good win. Tj is a big factor in getting others easy shots. Anthony is maturing and Alex is going to be a tough match in BSC.

McKay handled himself like a pro. It was great to see how he stayed calm throughout the game, but you can tell the players respect his style and really respond to it.

As for the game, it meant more to them than it did to us. They we're fighting hard for the win (coaching staff) and while of course we wanted to win, we had walk-ons playing significant minutes. Of course we could've played better, rebounding and boxing out especially, but this is going to be a fun team to watch. Hopefully the shooting from the outside wasn't a fluke and Smitty and Kyle can light it up consistently like they did tonight.

TeeJay is something special. The thing is, he didn't even have a great game. He could play better and that's scary. He makes the players around him better, and when he's fully healthy and begins to gel with these guys, watch out. We're in for a treat. I'm by no means saying we'll win the conference, but we'll play with and can beat anyone on any given night IMO.

The shirts they give out for the student section, if they do, should have the liberty logo on the front and on the back the words:

"If You Can't See, Stand Up."

or

"If You Can't See, Stand Up and Fan The Flames."

It's not the Opera or Les Mis....geez.

here's some random pictures. None of them came out very good. I couldn't figure out how to not make them blurry at the distance I was from the court. Plus the lighting isn't good and I'm really not very good at taking pictures.

Medic, the attendance was a guestimate seeing as there were no turnstiles, etc. As the game went on, more and more people showed up. We had a very good crowd for an exhibition.
