Being as judgmental as you are about this, indicates that you're missing the human side of the issue as you fail to recognize that you are just as capable of making similiar mistakes in the professional context. Of course, you'll have to actually obtain a professional position in order to even have an opportunity to make such a mistake

Nah, I don't really have a tendency to stab my boss in the back just so I can get his job. Not really a big fan of getting students to do my grunt work so I can cheat the rules either. That's not my style.

I'm glad he's gone. I do cartwheels everyday because he's gone. Still doesn't mean I have to like the jerk or can't bring up the crappy stuff he did.

"students doing his gruntwork" isn't really much of an accusation, and someone has got to do the gruntwork.
I certainly don't expect RMK to do that stuff, whatever it is. He's got plenty of other things to do, that no-one else
can do.

On the cheating, and "all the other stuff that's come out." Maybe it should be specified what that stuff is. It seems
irresponsible to make vague allegations that dang a guy (ethically), and then not name them. Plus, I'm often told to "let it go" and not by just one person, while some are outrageous in their posts, and not that much seems to said to them.

I've never said a bad word about Jeff Meyers, and I wish him the best. I don't believe I've said anything bad about RMK, and I wish him the best as well. Even those criticisms which I have voiced here, I believe, have been
kept within some degree of decorum. The level of rhetoric entertained here toward some, if said on the street corner face-to-face, would certainly result in some unpleasant situations, and in my opinion, ought not be tolerated here unless backed up by speciifcs.

Go ahead and tell me if I'm wrong.

both you and SJ are wrong...SJ has gone to the extreme on one side of "RD can do no right" and you take the stance that the man can do no wrong..

I think its silly to talk about this guy either way anymore...it happened months ago, and both sides need to get over it

SJ pm'd me, and I responded, and, I think on both parts, with a much better level of communication than hitherto experienced. I like it that way. If there were a "No Dunton" understanding among FlameFans, I would be happy to observe it.

My "No Dunton" comment was in reference to Postman's statement. My understanding of that statement in context is that we all demonstrate that we have "gotten over it" by not taking shots at him from the negative, and not lobbing in bombshells from the positive.

I "got over it" by buying season tickets for Play Basketball.

I would suggest the same for everyone else. :nod

Yeah, certainly. "Get over it" by supporting the program, and prove it by "shuttin up."

I was dissappointed when RD was hired. I was there when he was named interm back in the 90's. I was there when Dunton got T'd up for actually hitting the ball out of the hand of a Norfolk State player. I was there and heard him curse on the bench. I wrote Jerry several emails telling him it was time for RD to go. I was also there when Jeff M, along with RD caught a few players stealing from a dept store on a road trip. The items were sent back to the store without the players being held accountable. RD would never get this program to the next level.

Here we go again.

Seriously, Coach Dunton is gone and its probably time to let this go. It serves no purpose to bring up the past. And yes, I know I sound like Mark McGwire.

agreed sly. this thread was started about us backing out of the shootout, and now it is a dunton bashing. RD is gone people. let it go. we have a new era in LU athletics, let's focus on that.

For a guy that was not blessed with great speed, Randy always did have great hands.

The boys in Alaska filled the hole we left behind. All's well that ends well.
Eagles to the rescue

by Lars Peterson
Monday, August 13, 2007

Anchorage, Alaska - The 2007 Great Alaska Shootout field is complete, with the signing of Eastern Washington University.

The Eagles replace Liberty University who pulled out of the Thanksgiving college basketball tournament in July. EWU is no stranger to the shootout, having last played in the 2005 field.

That's good! They'll have a good tournament, and hopefully so will we.

The Great Alaskan Shootout would have been a great tournement for LU if Dunton was still coach. A few years ago LU knocked off Canisius, and then played Duke on ESPN-2 the following night.

The Fresno tourney will be a better one for us this year because McKay has so many contacts out that way, and I'm sure that he'll learn a lot about his team and its capabilities from that experience. We should get some decent exposure out West in this tourney.

We're chasing a number of NoCal recruits from RMc's days out west. So it could be very profitable for us in the long run by being in Fresno ... perhaps even the Lady Flames could benefit.

I've been doing some digging regarding the drop-out/join in tournament saga.

The GASO would have paid LU $10k and 10 plane tickets. That equals losing our tails, money-wise, had we played in it.

The Fresno shindig will pay us enough (can't be specific) to pay off the GASO, travel to Canada for two games (which gives us about 10 extra practice days, per NCAA rules), and still have a good chunk of coin in the bank when the dust settles. That equals a good move if you ask me or any CPA or sports analyst in the world.

Throw in recruiting advantages and you have pretty good reason to say buh-bye Alasko, hello Fresno.

grm, Not sure why u think Barber's fortunes rise and fall with RMK. That's extremely narrow-focused, given all the other facets of the athletics program - not the least of which is large (READ: VERY LARGE) financial gifts - that have been raised to higher levels since his arrival. And if RMK does take the bball program to the next level, will you be the first to acknowledge that he's at LU b/c JB had the rocks to make a coaching change?

Take it easy on GRM. He's been very open about his allegiances to Coach Dunton and as a result he has expressed opinions as such. But he has also shown support for the program and where we are headed.

As for the numbers, that is in line with similar scenarios that I am familiar with in regard to programs I cover. I admit I have no direct knowledge of the Alaska or Fresno contracts, but those numbers don't seem out of whack with what potentially could've been worked out.
